Jackson County Police Looking for man asking for money

Authorities in Jackson County are looking for a white man believed to be going around Grassey Fork Township south of Dudleytown and Tampico asking for money to buy diapers and formula.

Jackson County Sheriff Mike Carothers says when residents offer to buy these items for him, he refuses and wants only money.

Again, the suspect is a white man in his 30s driving a dark colored Oldsmobile. If this man stops by your home, please call the sheriff’s office at 812-358-2141.

Timothy Brooks, age 47, of Scottsburg, passed away on November 10, 2013 at his residence. Born on November 24, 1965 in Seymour Indiana, he was the son of the late Floyd Edward Brooks and Ruth (Gorbett) Rogers.

Corydon woman killed; granddaughter taken to Kosair

This morning at approximately 7:26 am, troopers from the Indiana State Police Post at Sellersburg and deputies from the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department responded to a serious crash on State Road #135 at the intersection of Fairview Church Road in Harrison County.

The preliminary investigation revealed a 2008 Jeep, being driven by Denise L. Meitzler, 53, from Corydon, IN, was travelling east bound on Fairview Church Road.

When she approached the intersection of State Road #135 she ran the stop sign and entered onto State Road #135 where she was then struck in the passenger’s side, by a 1998 Dodge pickup truck being driven north bound by Paul F. Roberts, 21, from New Salisbury, IN.

Denise Meitzler was transporting her grandchild, Gabriel Redmon, six years old at the time of the crash.

All three people were transported by ambulance to the Harrison County Hospital where Denise Meitzler was pronounced dead.

Gabriel Redmon was transferred from the Harrison County Hospital by air ambulance to the Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville, KY with serious injuries and Paul Roberts suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Seat belts and safety restraints were in use by all involved in the crash.

Assisting Agencies; Harrison County EMS, Harrison County Sheriff’s Department, Heath Township Fire Department and the Harrison Township Fire Department.

Fall Taxes Due Today

The Fall installment of property taxes are due today in the office of Washington County Treasurer Bob Woodward. and the office is extending office hours to accommodate taxpayers.

The office will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
There are other places where taxpayers may pay as well, including any branch of First Harrison Bank.
Payments may be mailed in, but must be postmarked Nov. 12 or before, or may be left in the drop box on the south side of the building.

Taxpayers also have the option of paying online.

Treasurer Bob Woodward noted that taxpayers may use credit or debit cards, but will be accessed a fee by the credit card company. The fee is 2.95 percent of the amount being paid. This fee is collected by the payment company.

Five arrested in Pekin Meth Bust; one jailed for battery

Six were arrested in Pekin Tuesday on Meth-related charges and battery.

According to Chief Deputy Sheriff Roger Newlon, while serving arrest warrants at 291 East State Road 60, in Pekin, at approximately 7:05 a.m. Tuesday, officers located working meth labs inside the home.

According to the news release, a search warrant was executed by the Indiana State Police Clandestine Lab Team and the Washington County Sheriff’s Department.

Arrested on warrants at the Pekin address were:

  • Clayton Rogers, 46, Floyd County, on a warrant for possession of Meth, possession of syringes and possession of precursors.
  • Cody Rogers, 18, Washington County, on a warrant for intimidation and criminal mischief.
  • Jennie Kemp, 19, Washington County, for battery.
  • Zackery Rogers, 18, Washington County, on a warrant for intimidation, criminal recklessness and criminal mischief.
  • Also arrested at the scene was Jerry White for visiting a common nuisance.

 

At another residence in Pekin, Albert Hardin, 23, was arrested on a Washington County warrant for criminal mischief.

As a result of the search warrant and evidence obtained, those involved were charged as follows:

  • Clayton Rogers; charged with Manufacturing Meth, (A Felony); Dealing, (A Felony); Possession of Meth (B Felony); Possession of a Precursor (D Felony); Maintaining a Common Nuisance (D Felony); and Possession of Paraphernalia (A Misdemeanor)
  • Jerry White; charged with Manufacturing Meth (A Felony)
  • Cody Rogers; Aiding in Manufacturing of Meth (A Felony); Dealing (A Felony)
  • Zackery Rogers; Aiding in Manufacturing of Meth (A Felony); Dealing (A Felony)
  • Albert Hardin; Aiding in Manufacturing of Meth (A Felony)

 

Newlon said the investigation is continuing and further charges and arrests are pending.

Medora Man Arrested on Drug Charges

A Medora man was arrested Sunday morning after police found him with drugs.

Adam Ingle, 34, was charged with possession of meth, possession of marijuana under 30 grams, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a handgun without a permit and violation of a protective order.

According to Lawrence County Sheriff Sam Craig Ingles was a passenger in a vehicle stop after it made a wide turn at an intersection.

Craig says the vehicle did not have a license plate and at one point stopped in the middle of the roadway and the driver turned off the headlights.

“The department’s K-9 was called and alerted officers to possible drugs in the vehicle,” Craig says. “Officers recovered drugs, drug paraphernalia and found a handgun in the vehicle.”

WW Senators Hold Soap and Towel Game Nov. 22

Greg Dean, head varsity basketball coach at West Washington High School, is bringing back a “blast from the past” with a soap and towell game, set for Friday, Nov. 22 at 6p.

“We’ll take donations for the program of soap, shampoo and towels instead of paying admission to the game,” Dean said.

At this pre-season exhibition game, the 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th grade as well as JV and Varsity will all take to the floor in T. Kermit Tower Gym to show the public their stuff before the regular seasons begin.
