Council approves $1.3 million ambulance budget

Washington County Council approved a budget of just over $1.3 million for a county-owned ambulance service.

Officials believe the service will be self-supporting in a few years.

Medora School “Road Map” to Improve High School

Medora School officials plan to unveil a road map in February designed to help improve the high school’s letter grade for school accountability from an F.

Superintendent Tom Judd did not release any details of the plan during the school board’s January meeting.

But the public is invited to the 6:30 p.m. Feb. 10 board meeting in the school media center to hear details of the plan being put together by Principal Brad McCammon.

Vallonia man arrested on drug charges

A Jackson County man has been arrested on a number of drug charges.

Jackson County Sheriff Mike Carothers says 34-year-old Charles Root, of Vallonia, was arrested Monday after a three month investigation led by Detective Ben Rudolph.

Root was booked in the Jackson County Jail on felony drug charges including dealing in meth. He is being held pending an initial hearing in Jackson Circuit Court.

Carothers says the Seymour Police Department assisted in this investigation.

He added that when agencies work together, drug issues can be dealt a major blow. Carothers also gave praise to Jackson County Prosecutor Amy Marie Travis and her office for their help in “curbing the drug problems in Jackson County.”

Bedford man arrested for Meth

A Bedford man was arrested after police stopped him for a traffic violation Wednesday night and a police K-9 alerted officers of possible drugs in the vehicle.

According to Oolitic Deputy Marshal Bill Allen, Indiana State Police Trooper Shea Teague stopped the vehicle at 16th and B streets in Bedford.meth-bust

Allen and his K-9 Shandi were called to the scene. There Shandi walked around the vehicle and alerted Allen that there was possible drugs in the vehicle. Officers found a white-powdery substance that field tested positive for meth.

25-year-old Steven Hawkins, of Freetown, was arrested and taken to the Lawrence County jail on a charge of possession of meth and maintaining a common nuisance.

Search at Austin Residence Leads to Arrests

Last night at approximately 11:30 p.m., troopers from the Indiana State Police Post at Sellersburg with the assistance of the Austin Police Department conducted a search at a residence located at 525 North Street in Austin.

Officers had received anonymous tips of alleged drug activity at the residence. During a search of the home multiple hypodermic needles were located along with other drug paraphernalia.

The resident of the home, Jennifer L. Fox, 34, and a visitor Jeremy W. Rice, 32, of Wilbur Avenue in Austin were arrested and transported to the Scott County Jail.

Jennifer Fox was charged with Maintaining a Common Nuisance and Possession of a Hypodermic Needle and Jeremy Rice was charged with Visiting a Common Nuisance and Possession of a Hypodermic Needle.

Traffic Stop Leads to Arrest in Clark County

Wednesday at approximately 2:17 pm, a trooper from the Indiana State Police Post at Sellersburg stopped a blue 2007 Chevrolet Impala driven by Jeffrey Flanigan, 29, from Louisville, KY.

The traffic stop was conducted near the 22 Mile Marker South Bound for a window tint violation. While speaking with the driver, the trooper smelled an odor of raw Marijuana. Jeffrey Flanigan exited the vehicle and alleged Marijuana was located on his person.

Jeffrey Flanigan was arrested for Possession of Marijuana, D Felony and Maintaining a Common Nuisance, D Felony. He was incarcerated at the Clark County Jail.
