70-Year-Old Killed in Morning Crash
A 70-year-old New Albany woman was tragically struck and killed early Wednesday morning while crossing Charlestown Road.
Around 7:30 Wednesday morning, officers from the New Albany Police Department responded to the report of a car versus pedestrian crash on Charlestown Road, just north of Klerner Lane.
The crash scene was dark and shrouded in fog at the time of the collision, significantly reducing visibility. The collision also occurred well outside of the nearest marked pedestrian crossing.
The pedestrian, later identified as 70-year-old Barbara Tucker of New Albany, was rushed to University Hospital. Sadly, Barbara Tucker died shortly after 8 a.m. after arriving at the hospital.
The New Albany Police Department requested the assistance of crash reconstruction officers from the Sellersburg Post, who then responded to the scene to investigate.
The preliminary investigation included interviewing witnesses and locating and viewing video that captured the tragic event, along with standard crash investigation techniques.
As a result of the initial investigation, officers believe the driver of a 2017 Chevrolet Equinox did not see Barbara Tucker as she crossed the roadway due to the low light conditions and fog.
The investigators do not believe speed to be a factor in the crash, and no charges are expected in this investigation.
The family of the deceased has been notified.

Purdue Extension – Washington County is co-hosting the “Managing Invasive Species in your Lawn & Landscaped Areas” three session virtual series on Thursday, November 7, 14, and 21, 2023 from 12:00 (noon) – 2:00 pm.

It’s time to sign up for 4-H! While it’s always a good time to join, you’ll get the most of your 4-H year by signing up now!
We encourage all to submit enrollment prior to January 15 th to
stay in the loop. In 4-H, kids in grades 3-12 can explore their interests and develop leadership skills alongside their peers and caring adult mentors.
