A Local Foods Tour is planned for Saturday, August 23, 2025 in Washington County.
The tour begins at 12:30 pm at Southern Hills Church (1645 Hwy 135 S.) in Salem. Participants will travel by tour bus to three Washington County farms including Blue River BEEF, Hunter’s
Ridge Winery, and Cornucopia Farm LLC to learn about beef, wine, and pumpkin production.
At approximately 5:30 pm, following the tour, participants will enjoy a meal prepared with local foods while hearing an educational presentation about the importance of supporting local
businesses.
Local vendors will be in available before, during, and after the meal to share about and sell their products.
The registration fee is $25 per person which includes snacks and drinks during the tour and the meal.
Space is limited and on a first-come-first-served basis. Register at
the Purdue Extension – Washington County Office at 806 Martinsburg Rd., Ste. 104 in Salem.

Pamela Faye Hensley, aged 67 of New Washington, passed away July 8th, at Baptist Floyd.
Hensley was born on July 25th, 1957 in Salem. The daughter of John Edward and Evelyn Faye Jackson Lincks. S
he was a member of the first Baptist church in Jeffersonville and dedicated her life to serving her Lord and serving her family. She was happy to be a homemaker, caring for her whole family selflessly, but she was much more than that she was a physical therapist. She was a teacher.
She was a medical specialist caring for their special needs son, who had serious illnesses.
Pamela married Felix Hensley on June 27, 1975, and he survives. She is also survived by 2 daughters, Cathy Jo Hensley, and Holly Ann Hensley, both of New Washington, and one son, Jacob Edward Hensley. She is survived by a brother Carl Edward Lincks of Paoli and her sister, Sherri Dellinger of Noblesville, Indiana.
Pamela was preceded in death by her parents.
Pamela was known by family and friends as the most selfless loving, and giving person they had ever met. Pam’s first task every day was spending time with her Lord. Then she set about doing whatever her family needed at that particular time, which always seemed to be a lengthy list. She was an avid reader consuming books at a record pace. Rapidly going from one novel to another. Everyone Pamela came in contact with was captivated by those twinkling eyes and that captivating smile and that incredible personality.
She will be missed by all who knew her.
Cremation was chosen and burial at Crown Hill Cemetery will be at a later date.
Mary Katherine Sparks, age 91 of Wimauma, Florida passed away Thursday, July 10, 2025, in her residence.
She was born September 16, 1933 in Salem, Indiana, the daughter of the late Robert L. and Nellie (Stover) Sullivan.
On November 21, 2005, she married Colonel George William Sparks, who preceded her in death.
She was first licensed as a Realtor in Indianapolis in 1959 and again in Springfield, Illinois, receiving the GRI. She was Secretary-Treasurer of two corporations that built over 350 homes & housing in and around the city. At differing times of her life, she was also active as an Insurance Representative, Legal Assistant in St. Louis, Executive Secretary for a National Eye Foundation and an Architect, a Lobbyist at the Illinois State Capitol, Public Relations & Events Planner, compiled a 500 page Cookbook & donated it for a Charity Fundraiser and a Genealogist for 40 years. Her last endeavor was authoring a Memoir for her family.
She was a member of the EQ Chapter of P.E.O., past President of the Sangamon River Chapter Daughters of the War of 1812; past four year Regent of the Springfield Chapter NSDAR; Member of Tent 102 Dr. Mary Harris Thompson Chapter DUV; Past Chaplain of William Bassett Chapter Colonial Dames of the XVII Century-Bradenton; member of the Osceola Chapter NSDAR; Associate of the Christopher Harrison Chapter NSDAR-Salem; Illinois State Daughters of Colonial Wars; Indiana Historical Society; first Indiana Pioneers and first founder of both Massachusetts & New Hampshire; a descendant of the early Founders of Nantucket including Edward Starbuck and Peter Folger, grandfather of Benjamin Franklin. She also was a descendant of King John “Lackland” of England along with 16 of the Barons who also signed the Magna Charta; his father King Henry II, William the Conqueror & Charlemagne. She was a LIFE member of the NSDAR, The Illinois Symphony Guild, Route 66 Association and the Washington County Historical Society & Stevens Museum at Salem, Indiana.
Survivors include: stepdaughter: Gail “Poppy” Vincent of Springfield, Illinois; 2 grandchildren Matt Denton of Austin, TX and Sarah (Kala) Large of Tulsa, OK; one great granddaughter, Lily Large three step-grandchildren, Zechariah Vincent of New York City; Levi Vincent of Springfield, IL and Travis Brown of Louisville, KY. Her daughter Shelley Denton-Starbuck preceded her in death on May 18, 2011.
Mary Katherine was a Christian and dearly loved each and every one of her family members “sisters” and close friends.

Robert “Bob” “Bobby” Charles Harris, age 83, of Salem passed away Sunday, July 6, 2025 at his residence.
Born August 2, 1941 in Medora, he was the son of the late Earl “Bud” “Buck” Harris and Ruth Hunsucker Harris. On May 21, 1990, he married Daisy (Bowling) Dean Harris who preceded him in death on February 20, 2019.
Bob was retired from H.A. Seinshimers clothing factory in New Albany; he enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, hunting, and being home to watch westerns on the television.
He is survived by 4 children: Carl Dean (Sheila), Jackie Dean (Tammy), Robert Dean (Denise), and Dawn Soto; 2 brothers: Steven Harris and Garry Elkins (Lisa); 4 sisters: Patricia “Kay” Smith (James), Rita Schulz; Lorretta “Retta” Brock, and Wanda Wright (J.C.); 18 grandchildren: Brandy Adams, Beau Dean, Luke Dean, Robin Dean, Jessica Dean, Brandon Dean, Ruthann Carey, Natasha Dean, Cody, Jeremiah Dean, Brooke Tucker, Isaiah Dean, Brady Ison, Chloe Ison, Odelia Soto, Daisy Soto, Adam Soto, and Oliver Soto; 22 great grandchildren: Peyton, Makayla, Emma, Braxton, Aaron, LJ, Gavin, Natalie, Ava, Bree, Mason, Ian, Holly, Kate, Carlos, Elijah, Maria, Makayla, Cameron, Mystery, Breeze, and Warren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Harris; mother and step-father Ruth and Wayne Elkins; wife, Daisy Harris; son, Earl Dean; 2 sisters: Carolyn “Joy” Eiler and Joan Hutchins; 3 brothers: Larry Elkins, Jerry Elkins, and Terry Elkins; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 14, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Hughes-Taylor Funeral Home-Salem Chapel.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Monday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Burial to follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.
Rita Kaye Mitchell, 70, of Borden, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, July 8, 2025. She was born on December 9, 1954, in Evansville, Indiana.
She was the daughter of the late Thomas E. and Mary L. Mitchell.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Mary, her sister, Peggy, and three brothers, Dicky (Dora), Jimmy (Carla), and Harry (Judi).
She is survived by her daughter, Tina Carter (Matthew), and son, T.J. Castro (Sarah), six grandchildren, Regan Carter, Bella Castro, Mason Carter, Avery Carter, Max Carter, and Ava Castro, one sister, Edna (Danny), and two brothers, Chester (Denise) and Dennis (Melanie).
Rita loved fishing and playing all types of cards, including poker and rummy. Rita’s biggest love, however, was her family. She was one of eight children, that included her brothers Jimmy, Dicky, Harry, Chester, Dennis, and two sisters, Edna and Peggy.
She loved being able to travel to western Kentucky to see her siblings, in-laws, cousins, nieces, and nephews. She cherished her time out in Utah with her big sister Edna.
She especially loved her six grandchildren. She took great pride and enjoyment in seeing them growing up and becoming the young adults that they are today.
Rita will be buried next to her parents in Madisonville, KY, on Thursday, July 17, at Odd Fellows Cemetery.
The graveside service will begin at 11:00 a.m. (central time). Odd Fellows Cemetery is located at 805 W. Center St., Madisonville, KY 42431.

With heavy but grateful hearts, the family of Gerald Lloyd Gray, Sr, of Henryville, IN, announce his passing on July 10, 2025.
Gerald Lloyd Gray, Sr. was born to Arthur and Alberta Gray at their home in Pekin, IN on October 9, 1931.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Loren and Elvin Gray.
Gerald served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean War and held three bronze stars for his valor and exceptional service to his country.
On Thanksgiving day, November 26, 1954, Gerald married Sarah Anna Brown, the love of his life and wife for 46 years, until she passed away in 2001.
Gerald married Margaret Thomas in March of 2002.
Gerald and Sarah are survived by their son, Gerald Lloyd, Jr. and two daughters, Terri and Trena.
Gerald also had 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandson.
Farming all of his life, Gerald also worked at the Charlestown Ammunition Plant, Morgan Packing Company, and Eastern Airlines.
He found great joy in providing for family, neighbors, and friends, and his great love of the outdoors and a mild stubborn streak kept him active all of his years.
Gerald was a man of great faith, reflecting the love of God to many along his journey in life.
Services will be held at Bunker Hill Christian Church on Saturday, July 12, 2025 with visitation from 4-6 pm and funeral to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any donations be made to Bunker Hill Christian Church.
Burial to follow in Bunker Hill Cemetery with full military honors.
The family would also like to offer a word of thanks and appreciation to the staff at Aseracare Hospice for their compassionate service.

Lyvonne St. Clair, age 64, of Scottsburg, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2025 at Norton Brownsboro Hospital.
Born March 7, 1961 in Hazard, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Sam and Amy (Campbell) Collins. On December 21, 2019, she married Chris St. Clair who survives.
She is survived by her husband, Chris; 2 brothers: Kermit Collins and Raymond Collins; 1 sister: Wilma Colwell; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Amy Collins; 3 brothers: Gene, Henry, and James; and 4 sisters: Rose, Norma, Bonnie Lou, and Tammy.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 15, 2025 at 12:00 p.m. at Hughes-Taylor Funeral Home-Salem Chapel.
Visitation will be held Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Burial to follow in Spurgeon Cemetery near Austin.
