James “Rick” England, age 71, of Salem
James “Rick” England, age 71, of Salem passed away Saturday, September 3 at Baptist Health Floyd in New Albany.
Mr. England was born June 24, 1951 in Salem the son of Willie and Hazel Nance England.
He is survived by a son: Travis England of Salem, two brothers: Bill England of Salem, and Allen England of Pekin, and a sister: Sherry Cole of Salem.
Rick is preceded in death by two brothers: Ed England and Ralph England, and his parents.
Funeral services will be at held 2PM Thursday at Weathers Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Franklin Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday from 10AM-until time of service. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Franklin Cemetery Fund, care of Lindsey Wade-Swift 201 S Harrison St. Salem IN 47167.
Captain James Glenn Mauch, age 75, of Birdsey
Captain James Glenn Mauch, age 75, of Birdseye, IN, formally of New Albany, IN, passed away on September 2, 2022 at Memorial Hospital in Jasper, IN.
He was born to Glenn Mauch and Elaine (Ferguson) Mauch on April 21, 1947 in New Albany, IN.
Jim was a retired firefighter for the city of New Albany, IN for nearly 40 years and is also an Army Veteran. Jim loved is family, his job and his animals.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Jim is survived by his wife of 49 years, Candance (Speth) Mauch, a son Jason Mauch and granddaughter Olivia Mauch.
In lieu of flowers donation may be made to the Dubois Co. Humane Society in Jasper, IN.
Cremation was chosen as to Jim’s wishes.

Cayden Daniel Lockard
Cayden Daniel Lockard, infant son of Brandon Lockard and Rachel (Peacock) Lockard, was born September 1, 2022 at Clark Memorial Hospital.
Cayden is survived by his parents, Brandon and Rachel; 8 siblings: Braden Lockard, Hayden Lockard, Conner Grider, Zachery Lockard, Elijah Grider, Wyatt Grider, Axel Lockard, and Kash Lockard; paternal grandparents, Donnie and Vera Lockard, and maternal grandparents, Tony and Lori Peacock.
Services will be held Wednesday, September 7, 2022 at 5:00 p.m. at Hughes-Taylor Funeral Home-Salem Chapel with Bro. Rodney Sweeney officiating. Visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home
S.R. 39 to close September 6 for box culvert replacement in Washington Count
Indiana Department of Transportation contractor Dave O’Mara Contractor Inc. plans to close S.R. 39 for up to 30 days starting on or after Tuesday, September 6, for a box culvert replacement project in Washington County.
Contractors will be working just north of S.R. 56 near Little York. Traffic will be detoured along S.R. 56, I-65 and S.R. 256.
The $1.3 million contract was awarded to Dave O’Mara in January and also includes a structure replacement project on S.R. 56, located 1.75 miles east of S.R. 39, that is currently scheduled to begin later this year in Scott County.
INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, use caution and remain vigilant of workers and equipment in active construction zones. All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.
UPDATE: S.R. 58 to close Sept. 12 for replacement project in Jackson County
Indiana Department of Transportation contractor Milestone Contractors LP plans to close S.R. 58 over Branch Runt Run, on or after Monday, September 12, for a bridge replacement project in Jackson County.
The bridge is located just over two miles east of S.R. 258 near Spraytown. The closure will last up to 90 days with an official detour route that follows S.R. 135, U.S. 50 and I-65.
Three additional projects are included on the $2.7 million contract:
- Small structure replacement, 1.95 miles west of I-65 in Bartholomew County (scheduled later this year, start date will be announced)
- Superstructure replacement project in Jackson County, 0.84 miles east of S.R. 258 at Runt Run (scheduled in 2023)
- Superstructure replacement project in Jackson County, 1.89 miles east of S.R. 258 at Branch Runt Run (scheduled in 2023)
The contract was awarded to Milestone in June. INDOT reminds drivers to use caution and be aware of workers and equipment when traveling through active work zones. All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.
