The Indiana State Police in Sellersburg are requesting the public’s assistance in the death investigation that began on Saturday, April 16, 2022 involving a black male child found in rural Eastern Washington County
Around 7:30 Saturday evening, while mushroomhunting, an area resident found the body of a black male child near a roadway in a heavily wooded area of eastern Washington County.
The resident immediately called 911 and the Washington County Sheriff’s Department responded.
Detectives with the Indiana State Police in Sellersburg were then called to investigate.
At this time in the investigation, detectives need the public’s help in identifying the child. He is described as being a young, black male between the ages of five years old and eight years old, according to ISP Sgt Carey Huls.
The child is approximately four feet tall and has a slim build and a short haircut.
Investigators believe the child’s death occurred sometime within the last week.
Investigators have not released a time or cause of death as an autopsy is pending.

Konnar Lewis Anderson, age 18 of Salem, was born September 2, 2003 in New Albany, Indiana. He was the son of Joshua Gunnar and Angela Marie (Chastain) Anderson.
Konnar had been a life resident of Washington County where he enjoyed participating in the High School Marching Band, playing tennis, hiking, running, weight lifting, cooking, and baking in his free time.
He was an employee of Walmart in Salem and was accepted into the Sullivan Culinary Arts Program on an academic scholarship.

A Memorial Service will be held for Konnar at 6:00 pm on Friday, April 15th at the Salem High School Gymnasium.
Dawalt Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
The family asks not to send flowers, wind chimes, or other gifts.
Instead, they request family and friends make a donation to the Salem Education Foundation, for the purpose of establishing a scholarship in Konnar’s name.
Konnar’s legacy of helping others can and will, live on through this scholarship. Please reference Konnar’s name on the check.

It’s time to take your shot at $1 million! The Stock Yards Bank Kentucky Derby Festival $1 Million Dollar Hole-In-One Golf Contest opens Thursday, April 14 and runs through Sunday, April 24. The contest will take place at the Seneca Golf Course Driving Range off Pee Wee Reese Road.
There will be nine days of preliminary qualifying rounds and a Semi-Final Round on Sunday, April 24.
The preliminary competition is open from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. every day from April 14-22, except for April 17, when it will be closed for Easter, and April 23 when it is closed for Thunder Over Louisville. The last day for the preliminary competition is Sunday, April 24, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and then the Semi-Final round begins at 6 p.m. Competitors and spectators can relax in the refreshment tent located adjacent to the tee area.
During the preliminary rounds, the 10 closest shots to the hole each day will advance to the Semi-Final round, while hole-in-one shots will advance directly to the Finals. It is $1 per shot daily, with 2 shots for $1 specials on the following days:
Senior Days (62+): Weekdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Junior Day (under 18): Saturday, April 16
First Responders & Veterans Day: Monday, April 18
Ladies Day: Tuesday, April 19
College Day: Wednesday, April 20
There are a total of 56 positions in the Finals, which include all daily hole-in-one qualifiers, four female qualifiers from Ladies Day, plus two qualifiers under the age of 18 from Junior Day advance as well. The Finals will be held on Tuesday, April 26 at 6 p.m. at Seneca Golf Course Hole #8. If no hole in one is awarded during the Grand Prize round, the participant coming closest to the hole during the Finals will receive a $5,000 first prize.

Ralph Edward Young, age 62, of Pekin, passed away Wednesday, April 6, 2022 at Ascension St. Vincent Salem Hospital. Born June 21, 1959, he was the son of the late Donald Anthony Young and Carlie A. Bedford (Hall). In June 1989, he married Cherri (Cox) Young who survives.
Ralph was retired from Netshape Technologies; he loved to hunt and fish.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Carlie, and a granddaughter.
He is survived by his wife, Cherri; 5 sons: Christopher Lee Hart, James Anthony Hart, Jered Alan Hart, Logan Edward Young, and Donald Anthony Young; 3 brothers: Donald Young, Paul Young, and Kenny Young; 1 sister: Debbie Davidson; 9 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Monday, April 11, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at Olive Branch Cemetery.

Richard Lee Trueblood, age 76 of Salem, passed away Friday, April 8, 2022 in the Palliative Care Unit of Baptist Health Louisville. In his
last days he was fortunate enough to be cared for by Hosparus Hospice Services.

Born October 27, 1945 in Salem, Indiana, he was the son of the late
Lawrence W. and Aurelia A. (Zink) Trueblood.
He was a retired teacher after 50 years with Salem Community Schools, a member of Blue River Christian Church, and had been a life-long resident of Washington County.
He was a 1963 graduate of Salem High School and, after attending The Herron School of Art in Indianapolis received a bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Education from Indiana University.
Richard, or “Mr T,” as he was known to his beloved students, was a proud member and later an Assistant Director and Visual Designer for the Salem Bands, had been a director of the Salem, Eastern and Tell City Color Guards and was Founder and Director of Menagerie, an Independent Winter Guard International (WGI) Finalist.

He was Director of the Salem Drama Club for 50 years and a performer with the Washington County Actors Community Theater.
He served as a founding member of the Washington County Art Guild, an Executive Board Member of the Indiana HS Color
Guard Association, and was so proud to be a member of the School Board at Salem Community Schools.
Richard truly loved Salem and wanted it to be the best in everything. He was an Eternal Cheerleader for his hometown and opened T Antiques on the Salem Square in 1991.
On July 31, 2021, he married Bonnie Lynn Harmon, after being partners for 32 years. It was a perfect day and the Best Wedding and Reunion ever. As with everything he did, it was filled with love and joy and color and “his kids.”
Richard was a guest on WSLM’s Coffee Club over the years and it was always a treat to have him be a part of the show.
No one loved people more than he did.
He brought his creative and design genius to hundreds throughout his life. Richard changed the World of Color Guard with his designs. He brought Drama Productions to Salem that were unique, groundbreaking, and trendsetting.
Then he used these vehicles of design to mold and change lives.
His students are his legacy – then, now, and Always. “Mr T’s Kids” are all across the world, spreading his love and creativity. In their hearts, they still can hear his trademark cry of “Let’s Do It!” at the beginning of each and every performance.
Survivors include Wife: Bonnie Lynn Harmon; Sister: Cheri L. Ingram of Salem; Niece: Christie (Glenn) Luckett of Salem; 2 Nephews: Tommy (Jessica) Paris and Dr. Kristen (Leigh) Ingram of Salem and 5 great-nieces and nephews.

Indiana Department of Transportation Contractor Beaty Construction Inc. is working on a $5.1 million bridge replacement contract that includes two bridges on S.R. 60 in Washington and Clark Counties.
Crews are working at the S.R. 60 bridge over South Fork Blue River, located approximately half a mile west of S.R. 335, just outside of New Pekin, in Washington County.
S.R. 60 will be reduced to one lane at the bridge with temporary signals to control traffic.
The signals are expected to remain in place through late October 2022.
Work is planned to begin in early July to replace the S.R. 60 bridge over Money’s Branch (4.21 miles west of Grant Line Rd.) in Clark County.
Temporary signals will also control traffic at this location through the fall.
INDOT reminds drivers to use extra caution, avoid distractions, and consider worker safety when traveling through active construction zones. All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.
