Wyatt B. Cooper, age 66, of Sellersburg, passed away Tuesday, February 8 at Baptist Health Floyd Hospital.
Mr. Cooper was born November 12, 1955, in Denver, Colorado the son of Charles E. and Thelma Louise Bendler Cooper. He was a retired Iron Worker. He was a member of Saint Joseph Hill Catholic Church in Sellersburg.
Wyatt is survived by his children: Casey Gill-Jackson of Monroe, Oregon, Carson Cooper of Key West, Florida, and Quincy Cooper Tincher of Salem, two brothers: Barton Cooper of Milltown and Cody Cooper of Leavenworth, a sister: Chandy Rathnow of Phoenix, Arizona and 5 grandchildren.
Cremation was chosen and no services will be held.
Oliver P. Sizemore, age 84, of Salem, passed away Monday, February 7 at his home.
Mr. Sizemore was born October 31, 1937, in Flat Creek, Kentucky the son of Henry and Grace Cox Sizemore.
He was a retired self-employed CPA and business owner of Oliver P. Sizemore, CPA. He was a member of Church of the Brethren in Flat Creek, Kentucky and attended Fellowship Baptist Church in Hardinsburg.
He was member of Salem Masonic Lodge #21 and was a past master and a 32nd Degree
He was a former member of Salem Rotary Club and a Charter Member of Salem Moose Lodge.
He was a secretary for the Washington County Community Foundation. He was an Air Force Veteran.
Oliver is survived by his wife: Donna Gibson Sizemore. They were married September 5, 1964.
He is also survived by his son: Darrin Sizemore of Salem, daughter-in-law: Nancy Sizemore of Salem, and several nieces, nephews and great-nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Henry and Grace Cox Sizemore, his mother and father-in-law: Walter and Evelyn Gibson, and five brothers: Roland Collett (Ruth), Bernard Sizemore (Doshia), Blevins Sizemore (Sally), Butler Sizemore (Norma), and Elmer Sizemore (Frances).
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1:00PM at Weathers Funeral Home. Burial will in Crown Hill Cemetery with military honors.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 10:30AM-time of service. Masonic services will be held at 12PM Tuesday.
Brandon M. Burns, age 23, of Salem, passed away, Saturday, February 5 at his home.
Brandon was born July 14, 1998, in Salem, Indiana the son of Monte Burns and Lea Ann Gray Burns. He was a 2017 Salem High School graduate. He was also a graduate of Ivy Tech Community College.
He is survived by his parents: Monte and Lea Ann Burns of Salem, a sister: McKenzie Burns of Pekin, and his maternal grandparents: Don and Patti Gray of Salem, and a nephew: Paxton Grigsby. Brandon was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents: Huston and Ruby Burns.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, February 14 at Weathers Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 P.M. and Monday from 10AM-until time of service at the funeral home.
David Alan Hypes, age 74 of Campbellsburg, passed away Wednesday,
February 9, 2022 at 2:45 am, in his residence, surrounded by his family.
Born July 7, 1947 in Claysville, Indiana, he was the son of the late
Reno M. and Leora (Freed) Hypes.
He retired in 2010 as a mechanic with INDOT. He was also a truck driver
for the old Link Handle Company in Salem. He was a member of the First
Baptist Church of Campbellsburg and was a life resident of Washington
County.
David was a life long mechanic and used that gift as a way to be a
blessing to other’s. Over the past few years David would volunteer at
Choices, mow yards and help with home improvement projects of family and
friends. Since his retirement from the state highway garage, fishing
brought a great opportunity to enjoy nature and grow friendships. Most
of all, David loved his family immensely and it was evident in how he
lit up when the grandchildren were around. David loves the Lord and is a
friend of Jesus
On February 18, 1966, David married Brenda Lou (Green) Hypes, who survives.
Also surviving are: 2 Daughters: Rhonda (Frank) Hamman and Donna (Chris)
Wesner; 1 Son: David (Angela) Hypes; 1 Sister: Linda Lou Schocke:
Grandchildren: Jessica R. Hamman, Arien (Keith) Wisley, Breanna (Skyler)
Elkins, Kaitlyn (Taylor) Brown, Kristen Wesner, Bailey Hypes and
Gabrielle Hypes. 7 Great Grandchildren, including one on the way and
several nieces and nephews, this included his neice: LuAnne (Williams)
Yandow, who lived with them for a time.
He was preceded in death by sister: Vivian Jean (Hypes) Williams,
brother-In-Law: Barney Schocke, nephew: Alan Eugene Williams and
granddaughter: Ariel Dawn Wesner.
Funeral Service: 2 pm Saturday at Dawalt Funeral Home, followed by
interment in Claysville Cemetery.
Visitation: 11 am until the time of the service on Saturday.
A Commercial Driver from Corydon was arrested Wednesday afternoon for Operating While Intoxicated as well as drug and weapons charges.
As a result of the investigation, Steven Springer Jr. was arrested on the following charges:
Officers transported Steven Springer to the Harrison County Jail without further incident.
Around Noon on Wednesday, Trooper Nathan Newton observed a commercial dump-truck drive off the right side of SR 135 as they were traveling south toward Fairview Church Road.
After turning west onto Fairview Church Road, the truck dove left of center several times, including on hill crests and around curves.
Trooper Newton activated his emergency lights and sirens, but the truck did not immediately stop.
The driver, identified as Springer Jr., eventually stopped on Fairbanks Road, but not before crossing over Heidelburg Road.
Trooper Newton conducted a traffic stop along with a commercial vehicle inspection.
During the inspection, he observed indicators of possible impaired driving and also performed standard field sobriety tests. Further investigation also uncovered drugs and drug paraphernalia as well as two handguns.
Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating after an off-road vehicle (ORV) accident that claimed the life of an Elizabeth juvenile this weekend.

The incident is still under investigation.
Assisting agencies at the scene included the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana State Police, Harrison County EMS, Elizabeth Volunteer Fire Department, and New Middletown Volunteer Fire Department.
Indiana Conservation Officers strongly encourage operators
Sunday afternoon, February 6, at approximately 3:40, Indiana State Police responded to the 4000 block of East Fox Run Drive, Vincennes, after it was reported that a male had threatened to shoot another male for riding a four-wheeler and pulling his two children on a sled in a nearby common area.
When troopers arrived, they identified the male that allegedly made the threat as Gary Sorgius, 68, of Vincennes.
Troopers conducted an on-scene investigation and concluded Sorgius did not have a weapon in his possession at the time of the incident, but he allegedly made the threat he was going to shoot the male on the four-wheeler and yelled to another person to get his gun.
Sorgius was arrested and taken to the Knox County Jail where he is currently being held on bond.
