Yesterday afternoon, March 29, a traffic stop conducted by a trooper from the Indiana State Police-Versailles Post led to the discovery of a large amount of marijuana and cash which resulted in the driver being arrested on felony charges.
At approximately 5:00 pm, Sergeant Stephen Wheeles, ISP-Versailles, conducted a traffic stop on a 2022 Ford Edge on I-65 Southbound near the 51 mile marker near Seymour, Indiana. During the traffic stop, Sgt. Wheeles became suspicious that criminal activity was taking place.
The investigation led to a search of the vehicle. During the search, troopers located approximately 60 vacuum sealed packages containing suspected marijuana. Initial estimates indicated the weight of the packaged marijuana to be in excess of 70 pounds. Over $16,000 in US Currency was also located in the car.
The driver of the vehicle, Arman Hakobyan, age 37, Chatsworth, California was arrested and transported to the Jackson County Jail on initial charges of Dealing over 10 pounds of Marijuana and Possession of Marijuana.
The marijuana is estimated to have a street value of $150,000 to $200,000.
Hakobyan will soon face an initial appearance in the Jackson County Circuit Court.

Maysel L. Roop, age 90, of Salem, passed away Tuesday, March 29 at her home.
Mrs. Roop was born April 17, 1931, in Salem, the daughter of Albert T. and Elva G. Goodpasture Elliott.
Maysel married Norman E. Roop on September 9, 1950, and he preceded her in death on September 18, 2012. She was also preceded in death by two sons-in-law: Robert Nelson and Miles Packwood, three brothers: Robert, Noble and Charles Elliott and her parents.
She is survived by a son: Thomas E. Roop of Salem, three daughters: Norma Gramlin (Danny) of Salem, Melanie Packwood of Salem, and Donna Hollen (David) of Salem, a brother: Lee Elliott of Kokomo, Indiana, seven grandchildren: Amy Craig, Angela Hollen, Amber Brooks, Bryan Packwood, Nathan Packwood, Shelley Kurzendoerfer, and Kendra Posthauer, and six great-grandchildren: Mason Craig, Jackson Craig, Haakan Packwood, Atticus Packwood, Axton Packwood and Orion Packwood.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 1PM at Weathers Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Hop Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 4-8PM and Friday from 11AM-time of service.
Mary Ellen Lee, age 94 of Sellersburg, Indiana passed away Monday, March 28, 2022 at 4:14 pm, in IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
Born October 26, 1927 in Bromer, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd E. Ingram and Vibart (Cornwell) Ingram.
On September 23, 1964 she married Alvin H. Lee, who passed away December 21, 2012
Mary was retired from the old Smith Cabinet Factory in Salem and was a former employee of the old Charlestown Powder Plant. She was a member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church and had been a resident of Sellersburg since 2012, formerly of Washington County.
She is survived by:
Son: Dewayne Lee of Sellersburg, Indiana; 2 daughters: Ruth Arredondo of Salem, Indiana; Daughter: Vickie Brown of Illinois; Sister: Katherine Neely of Mississippi. She is also survived by several grandchildren, several great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: 3 sons Johnny, Roger and Tim Lee, 4 daughters: Suzie Lashbrooks, Patricia Knox, Charlene Williams and Beverly Yocum and 1 Brother: Harold Ingram.
Visitation: 4 to 8 pm Thursday and 9 to 11 am Friday at Dawalt Funeral Home.
Funeral Service: Friday at 11am at Dawalt Funeral Home with Bro. Steve Erwin officiating.
Interment will follow the service at Olive Branch Cemetery near Pekin, Indiana.
