Judy F. Hale, age 75, of Salem
Judy F. Hale, age 75, of Salem, passed away Tuesday, January 14 at her home.
Mrs. Hale was born August 12, 1949, in New Albany, the daughter of Charles Bagshaw and Nora Lewellen Bagshaw. She was a member of the Christian Church in Westwood, Kentucky.
She is survived by two sons: Brent Martin (Melissa) of Borden and Jason Hale (Angel) of Cecilia, Kentucky, a daughter: Dawnice Sohl (Chad) of Campbellsburg, a brother: Carl Bagshaw of Salem, a daughter-in-law: Suzanne Hale of Henderson, Tennessee, 14 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Gary E. Hale, a son: Josh Hale, two brothers: David A. Bagshaw and Francis “Sonny” Bagshaw, and her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 1 PM on Monday, January 20 at Weathers Funeral Home.
Burial will follow in Bunker Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 10AM—time of service.
John F. “Charlie Brown” Helton, 78
John F. “Charlie Brown” Helton, 78, of Fredericksburg, Indiana died on January 6, 2025 at the home of his caretaker. John was born on January 31, 1947 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Fred and Mildred L. (Roth) Helton.
John retired from Phillip Morris.
He is survived by his sister, Janet Claypool; and caretakers, Jason and Lindsey Embry and Cindy Hurt.
John chose cremation and a memorial service will be on Friday, January 31, 2025 at 5:00 p.m. at Grace Tabernacle Church- Crawford at 108 1/2 Church Street, Milltown, Indiana 47145.

Jimmie R. Adam, 77, of New Salisbury
Jimmie R. Adam, 77, of New Salisbury, Indiana died on January 8, 2025 at Baptist Health- Floyd. Jimmie was born on September 6, 1947 in Ramsey, Indiana to the late Robert William and Margaret Elizabeth (Beal) Adam.
Jimmie was employed with General Electric for over 37 years, as a forklift operator and serving as a Union Steward. Jimmie was a Christian believer.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Vernice Adam; brother, Gary Sizemore; sister, Donna Lee Myers; and her nephew, Mike Myers.
He is survived by his step daughters: Brenda L. Kemp (Marty) of New Salisbury, Indiana, Margaret Sizemore (Farris) of Corydon, Indiana, and Lisa Devore (Doug) of New Salisbury, Indiana; step son, Mikel Sizemore of New Salisbury, Indiana; niece, Missy Myers of New Salisbury, Indiana; and numerous step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be on Saturday, January 11, 2025 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home, 306 Spring Street, Milltown, Indiana 47145.

Doris Jean Newby, 70
Doris Jean Newby, 70, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Todd-Dickey Nursing and Rehab in Leavenworth.
Born April 12, 1954, she was the daughter of the late James and Geraldine (Sanders) Perry.
Doris was a home health CNA for 15 years, a custodian for West Washington Schools for 13 years, and the former President of the Salem Eagles Club.
Doris is survived by her children: Larry Perry (Michelle), Hope Newsome, and April Green (Jeff); 2 brothers: Timmy Perry and Rocky Perry (Missy); 5 sisters: Janice Roberts, Patricia Burdine, Tammy Reed, Mary Perry and Melody Perry; 4 grandchildren: Myra McKinney (James), Larry Perry Jr (Kalie), Tre Perry (Gene), and Harper Green; 2 adopted grandchildren: Triston Newby and James Newby; 3 great-grandchildren: Everly, Aubrea and Willow; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, James and Geraldine Perry; and a brother, Jimmy.
Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, January 21 at 5 pm at Hughes-Taylor Funeral Home – Salem Chapel.
Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4 pm until time of service at the funeral home.
Margie Martin, 97, of Salem
Margie Martin, 97, of Salem, passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Salem Crossing. Margie was born on February 13, 1927 in Okinawa, Japan. On July 28, 1953, she married Logan E Martin, who preceded her in death in 2004.
Margie is survived by her sister-in-law, Annabelle Trueblood; and her nieces: Sharon Earls and Brenda Atkins (Buddy).
She was preceded in death by her husband, Logan Martin.
Cremation was chosen. She will be buried with her husband at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison at a later date.

Dr. Mark E. Manship, 74, Salem
Dr. Mark E. Manship of Salem, 74, passed away peacefully Saturday, January 11 at Norton’s Hospital Brownsboro in Louisville, where he received loving care from their physicians and nursing staff.
Dr. Manship was born June 18, 1950 in New Albany, Indiana, the son of Russell E. Manship and Nadine Walters Strain.
He graduated from Paoli High School in 1968, then went on to graduate from Indiana University and Indiana University School of Medicine in 1978.
He completed his residency at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.
Dr. Manship practiced Family Medicine and Emergency Medicine in several cities throughout central and southern Indiana.
He previously served as Coroner of Washington County and held positions on the Salem Community School Board, Salem Public Library Board and Washington County Council.
He was a member of Salem (High Street) Church of Christ and the American College of Emergency Physicians. Dr. Manship was a student of the old school and practiced medicine like an art form. He enjoyed telling the story of once being approached by someone who said, “I heard you can diagnose a man just by looking at him.”
Although he was an extremely brilliant physician and talented diagnostician, he will be most remembered for his compassionate bedside manner.
He was an advocate for medical independence and valued the sacred relationship between a patient and their doctor. His gregarious, fun-loving nature made him a light for so many, both professionally and personally, and he will be missed immensely.
Mark is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years: Lynn Crockett Manship.
He is also survived by his children: Grant E. Manship of Nashville, Tennessee and Abigail Aleksinas (Marc) of Greenville, South Carolina, two sisters: Ann Newkirk (Russ) and Janie Shelton (Eddie) both of English.
He will be especially missed by his three grandchildren: Teddy, Whit and Dagny who lovingly referred to him as ‘Doc.’
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 11AM at Weathers Funeral Home.
Visitation will be Thursday from 3-8PM and Friday from 9AM-time of service.

Pamela S. Knight, age 66, of Salem
Pamela S. Knight, age 66, of Salem, passed away Monday, January 13 at Baptist Health Floyd in New Albany.
Mrs. Knight was born March 21, 1958 the daughter of Marvin and Blanch Spurgeon Watkins.
She attended Salem First Baptist Church, where she was a part of the Women’s Bible Study Fellowship.
She was a former type setter for Leader Publishing Company.
She is survived by her daughter: Misty Callaway (Aaron) of Salem, and two grandchildren: Michaela and Micajah “Cage”. She is preceded in death by her parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11AM Thursday at Weathers Funeral Home.
Burial will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Wednesday from 4-8PM and Thursday from 9AM until time of service.
New Albany Woman Arrested for Assisting Suspect in Orange County Shooting

- False Informing, Class A Misdemeanor
On January 3rd, just before 1:00 AM, Orange County Deputy Sheriff Zac Andry stopped to check on a disabled vehicle in the roadway at US Highway 150 and State Road 56.
During the interaction with the driver, Austin Schepers, Schepers shot Deputy Andry multiple times and fled the scene. Hours later, Schepers fled to a residence in the 1800 block of Market Street in New Albany.
Through their investigation, State Police Detectives Clay Boley and Steven Peyton believe 35-year-old Victoria Howard of New Albany knew that Schepers had allegedly shot a police officer and that he was wanted by law enforcement.
Schepers was ultimately found on January 4th at a residence in the 3700 block of Wheeler Avenue.
Howard was arrested without incident on Thursday, January 9th in Clarksville. She was taken to the Floyd County Jail where she was processed.
Investigators believe additional charges will be forthcoming against additional individuals responsible for assisting Schepers while he was wanted by police.
