Holiday World to Provide Indiana Foster Kids Free Admission

0

Kentucky and Indiana children in foster care will now be able to visit Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari once a year for free. Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari has partnered with foster care agencies in Kentucky, Indiana, and Tennessee to create a new Foster Family Program.

Effective immediately, every child in foster care from participating states is eligible to visit Holiday World & Splashin’ Safari once per year at no cost.

“We are so grateful to Holiday World for recognizing foster families with this benefit,” Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said. “The amazing foster parents I’ve met say their biggest reward is helping children and their families heal and reunite, but benefits like this give them an invitation to the summertime fun and adventure that every child deserves. What a great way to say thank you to these dedicated parents for all they do.”

In addition to free admission for children in foster care, resource parents and those in their households are eligible for discounted tickets through Holiday World’s Online Fun Club.

Matt Eckert, Holiday World President & CEO said, “We can’t think of a better way to celebrate 75 Years of Fun than rolling out the Foster Family Program to share the fun with as many families as possible.”

Children in foster care are required to be accompanied by a licensed or unlicensed resource parent. To receive free admission, a resource parent should contact their representative to receive a completed referral.

The resource parent should then present the referral along with a valid photo ID at a Holiday World Guest Relations window to receive tickets for the eligible children.

More information about this new program can be found with the foster care agencies in Kentucky, Tennessee, and Indiana or HolidayWorld.com by searching the words “Foster Family Program.”

Guests with additional questions are encouraged to call the Holiday World Call Center at (812)937-4401 or email us at fun@holidayworld.com.

If agencies in additional states are interested in partnering with Holiday World, please send inquiries to fun@holidayworld.com

Trooper injured after car falls from trailer and collides with police cruiser.

0

An Indiana State Trooper from the Sellersburg Post was injured this morning when a car being hauled on a flatbed trailer broke free from its cargo straps and rolled off a trailer on I-65 Southbound.

Shortly after seven Wednesday morning, Trooper Jonathan Cain was on-duty and sitting stationary in the median crossover on I-65 near the 33 mile-marker.

Trooper Cain had just checked the interstate for stranded motorists and was monitoring for traffic violations.

At the same time, a black 2007 Chevrolet pickup truck, driven by Andrew Tarr, 40, of Seymour, was pulling a flatbed trailer southbound on I-65 approaching the crossover where Trooper Cain was stationed.

The flatbed trailer was loaded with a black 2000 Volkswagen Jetta, which broke free from its cargo straps as the trailer traveled southbound from the Seymour area.

As the truck and trailer continued southbound, the Jetta rolled off the back of the trailer entering the roadway, and then traveled off the east side of the southbound lanes and collided with Trooper Cain’s police car.

Trooper Cain suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by Scott County EMS to Baptist Floyd Hospital in New Albany before being transferred to University Hospital in Louisville.

The driver of the Silverado was not injured and immediately stopped at the crash scene. The driver was cited for Insecure Load and later released from the scene.

An Indiana State Police crash reconstruction investigator was called to assist in the crash investigation.

This crash remains under investigation.

Green Says Boil Water Was a Precaution After “Adverse Issue” at Plant

0
The City of Salem issued a boil water advisory on Saturday afternoon and lifted it Tuesday afternoon at 3p, as a precaution, according to Mayor Justin Green.

“Our water plant had an adverse issue over the weekend that was fixed by the crew and engineers on-site,” Green said Wednesday. “This was an internal issue with a chlorine bleach pump feed and was discovered and addressed by Saturday evening.”

A groundbreaking was held at the site of the John Hay Water Treatment Plant in June 2019. The City of Salem refinanced $1.9 million and received a two percent 40-year-loan from the USDA to pay for the $15.2 million plant. It was scheduled to be operational in Spring 2021

Green said the plant did not lose disinfection and only suffered from low volume.

Since Salem sells water to the Town of New Pekin and East Washington Rural Water Corporation, they both had issued boil water advisories as well.

Those advisories expired today at 1p.

“Testing water samples after the repair to ensure safety was the most time-consuming,” he said. “This resulted in the extended advisory. All testing was completed [Tuesday], and the advisory was then canceled.”

Green said the City of Salem certainly thanks its customers for understanding and being patient while “we ensured a safe water supply.”

Green said the city will be working on implementing an automated notification system in the future and will make that announcement at a later date.
