Terre Haute Man Identified in Vigo County Case

0

The Vigo County Coroner’s Office has identified the individual that was discovered in the body of water on June 19, 2021, in southern Vigo County.

The individual has been positively identified as Richard M. Patterson, 32, Terre Haute.

The family has been notified.

The Vigo County Coroner’s Office determined the cause of death to be drowning.

The preliminary investigation by Putnamville State Police Post detectives indicates that in the late hours on June 12, 2021, the Vigo County Sheriff’s Department responded to a disabled vehicle on Riley Road.

Sheriff’s deputies discovered that the vehicle was stolen and that Richard M. Patterson, age 32, of Terre Haute, Indiana, was in possession of the vehicle.

It was also discovered that Patterson was in possession of stolen articles from a nearby residence.

Deputies placed Patterson under arrest, handcuffing him and placing him in a patrol car.

While deputies processed the crime scene, Patterson, still handcuffed, escaped from the patrol car.

The Vigo County Sheriff’s Department along with the assistance of Terre Haute Police K-9s conducted an extensive search and was unable to locate Patterson.

On June 19, 2021, a local resident observed an object located in a body of water and immediately called 911.

Emergency personnel then retrieved Patterson’s body from the water.

The investigation is ongoing.  There is no further information to release at this time.

Various double lane closures will be in place both northbound and southbound between Memphis and Sellersburg on weeknights from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m.

At least one lane will remain open while work is in progress. Lane closures are expected to be complete the following Thursday (July 1), weather permitting.

Paving Operations Scheduled For SR 60 Near Mitchell

0

The Indiana Department of Transportation announces daytime lane restrictions for State Road 60 near Mitchell.

Beginning on or around Wednesday, June 23, contractors will begin paving operations on S.R. 60 between the intersection of S.R. 37 to the Orange and Washington County line.

During this operation, crews will mill away the top layer of asphalt and apply a new driving surface.

Work will be performed during the daytime hours with traffic being controlled by flagging operations.

During the project, open lanes will be restricted to a width of 12-feet. All wider loads should seek an alternate route using the nearest numbered state, U.S. or interstate routes.

Depending upon weather conditions, work is expected to be complete by the beginning of September. INDOT urges drivers to slow down and stay alert near crews.

State Sen. Erin Houchin to chair Interim Study Committee on Child Services

0

State Sen. Erin Houchin (R-Salem) will serve as chair of the Interim Study Committee on Child Services during the summer and fall to help prepare lawmakers for the 2022 legislative session.

This committee was created by Senate Enrolled Act 301, authored by Houchin, in order for legislators to gather necessary information about child fatalities and to help the Indiana Department of Child Services (DCS) make more informed policy decisions.

“As chair of this committee, I am dedicated to protecting the children in our communities. It is vitally important for the legislature to have the opportunity to review the records from each local child fatality review team, the statewide child fatality review committee and DCS, allowing us to better serve and protect the children of our state.”

Prior to her service in the Indiana General Assembly, Houchin served as a Family Case Manager for DCS, bringing a unique perspective to her role on the committee and a wealth of relevant experience. Houchin also serves as a member of the standing Senate Committee on Family and Child Services and was previously the chair of the Indiana Commission on Improving the Status of Children.

In addition to her role as chair of the Interim Study Committee on Child Services, she will also serve on the Interim Study Committee on Elections and the Interim Study Committee on Energy, Utilities and Telecommunications.

“These study committees are an important part of my service as a legislator, and I look forward to spending the next few months continuing to research and learn more about issues facing Hoosiers around the state,” Houchin said.

Legislators will meet over the summer and fall months to discuss topics approved by the bipartisan Legislative Council, which is comprised of 16 voting members – eight from the Senate and eight from the House of Representatives.
