Identity of Man Killed in Officer Involved Shooting Being Released

0

Investigators with the Indiana State Police-Versailles Post and the Dearborn County Coroner’s Office are releasing the identity of the man who died after being shot by police in an incident at the Hollywood Casino & Hotel in Lawrenceburg, Indiana on Saturday, October 19, 2024.

The deceased has been identified as Milo L. Kirsh, age 45, Avon, Indiana.

Officers from the Lawrenceburg Police Department were called to the fourth floor of the Hollywood Hotel in the early morning hours after Kirsh was acting erratically and had allegedly chased another guest with a knife, causing minor injuries.

Upon arrival, the officers learned that Kirsh was now firing a gun on the fourth floor where numerous other guests were staying.

Three officers went to the fourth floor where they quickly located Kirsh in the hallway.  An officer gave Kirsh orders to drop the handgun he was holding.

The evidence indicates that Kirsh began shooting with the officers returning fire.

Kirsh was struck and soon died at the scene as a result of the injuries he sustained.

Detectives with the Indiana State Police-Versailles Post were asked to conduct the investigation into the incident.

ISP said an autopsy was conducted on Kirsh Monday to determine the cause of death. The results are pending and the investigation is ongoing.

One other person sustained minor injuries from the incident after confronting Kirsh for his erratic behavior prior to police arriving.

Police said that the injured victim and Kirsh are not believed to have known one another. No other injuries were reported.

The Indiana State Police says that they were assisted on the scene by the Lawrenceburg Police Department, Dearborn and Ohio Counties Prosecutor’s Office, Dearborn County Coroner’s Office, and Hollywood Casino Hotel Staff.

Monday Morning Shooting on New Albany’s West Side Leaves One Dead

0

Jeffersonville man is dead after a shooting Monday on the west side of New Albany.

Just after 10:00 AM, the New Albany Police Department received reports of shots being fired at 325 West 8th Street.  Officers with New Albany PD and the Floyd County Police Department responded to the scene to find a male who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.  The male, 30-year-old Johntae Trumbo of Jeffersonville, Indiana, was transported to University of Louisville Hospital in Louisville, where he was pronounced deceased.  The alleged shooter, a 17-year-old male, remained at the scene and was detained upon arrival of officers.

Due to investigators with New Albany Police being occupied with other investigations, the Indiana State Police was asked to respond to the scene to lead the investigation.  Detectives and crime scene investigators headed the case with the assistance of New Albany and Floyd County.

Through the course of the investigation thus far, the 17-year-old male has been charged with Possession of a Handgun by a Serious Violent Felon, Obstruction of Justice, and False Informing.  He has been lodged in the Juvenile Detention Center in Jeffersonville.

Investigators are continuing to determine what lead to shots being fired upon Trumbo.  As this is an active investigation, specific details will be forwarded to the Floyd County Prosecutor’s Office for review and determination if additional charges should be filed.

Updated information to this release will be made available should that be necessary.

Schneck Medical Center Proactively Reschedules Surgeries Amid National IV Fluid Shortage

0
Schneck Medical Center is proactively rescheduling a number of non-emergency surgeries due to a nationwide shortage of IV fluids affecting hospitals across the country. The hospital is working closely with its suppliers to address the issue and minimize the impact on patient care.

“This decision was made with the safety and well-being of our patients as our top priority,” said Eric Fish, MD, MBA, FACOG, President/CEO of Schneck. “While the IV fluid shortage is a national issue, we are taking every step to ensure that emergency procedures remain unaffected and that patients impacted by this rescheduling are given the earliest possible new dates.”

IV fluids are essential for a wide range of medical procedures, including surgeries. The current supply disruption has forced healthcare providers to reassess their stock levels and prioritize critical care situations. Schneck has implemented a robust conservation plan to ensure optimal use of existing supplies while exploring alternative sourcing options.

Affected patients have been notified directly. Patients whose surgeries are being rescheduled can expect personal follow-up calls to confirm new dates as soon as possible.

“Our staff is working diligently to secure additional IV supplies and coordinate care. We understand the inconvenience this may cause, and we deeply appreciate the patience and understanding of our patients and their families during this time,” Fish add
