2016 PBR World Champion Cooper Davis Dominates, Winning Round 1 of Unleash The Beast Event in Glendale

0
The world’s No. 1 bull rider, Cooper Davis (Jasper, Texas), put up the night’s top ride and leads the pack going into Championship Sunday in Glendale, Arizona.

On Saturday night, the 2016 PBR World Champion earned his third-round victory of the 2021 PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Unleash The Beast (UTB) season by claiming the Round 1 win at the PBR Built FORD Tough Invitational, presented by Cooper Tires.

Fans inside Gila River Arena (at limited capacity to allow for social distancing) cheered the stone-faced Texan on as he fired from the chutes aboard Mr. Winston (Dakota Rodeo/ Chad Berger/ Clay Struve), receiving the night’s only 90-point ride score.

On the season, it was Davis’s third 90-point ride in his quest to win a second PBR World Championship.

I’m excited just to show up every weekend, taking the jump for jump,” Davis said following his round victory. “I’ve never been this excited to ride bulls. I’m thankful for the opportunity and just having fun with it.”

The Round 1 win and 29 world point further secured his hold on the No. 1 spot in the world standings, leading No. 2 Cole Melancon (Paris, Texas) by 108.5 points. Melancon’s night did not go as planned in his journey to close the gap in the world standings, as he came down hard after a mere 1.39 seconds as Stinger (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve) flung him to the ground.

Prior to Davis’s electric ride, Brazilian rider Eduardo Aparecido (Gouvelandia, Brazil) delivered a crowd-pleasing 89.25-point ride aboard Trail of Tears (Dakota Rodeo/ Chad Berger/ Clay Struve/MAGA Cattle/ Roper Angus).

The veteran rider’s second-place finish earned him 18 world points to jump from No. 23 in the world standings to No. 19 as the night came to a close.

Ezekiel Mitchell (Rockdale, Texas), star of the new Snapchat docu-series “Life By The Horns,” finished third in Round 1 courtesy of his 89-point trip on Safety Meeting (Dakota Rodeo/ Chad Berger/ Clay Struve/Hruby/Kainz).

The Texas young gun collected 17 world points and is now ranked No. 26 in the world, rising from the No. 31 positions at the start of the event.

Despite some setbacks early in the season and time off for a broken jaw, two-time PBR World Champion Jess Lockwood (Volborg, Montana), who was absolutely hammered last night by YETI bull of the event Marquis Metal Works Coriolis Effect (Marquis Metal Works) and riding with a heavily bandaged wrist and hand, did not back down on Saturday night as he rocketed from the chutes and stayed aboard Rising Sun (Dakota Rodeo/ Chad Berger/ Clay Struve/ Heald Pro Bulls). The 88.25-point score earned a fourth-place finish and moved Lockwood from his No. 40 spots in the world standings to No. 33.

Kyler Oliver (Roy, Utah) rounded out the Top 5 after riding Skeeter Peter (Dakota Rodeo/ Chad Berger/ Clay Struve) for 87.75 points in Round 1. Oliver’s successful ride earned the Utah cowboy 15 world points, moving him up one spot in the world standings from No. 21 to No. 20.

The PBR Built FORD Tough Invitational, presented by Cooper Tires will conclude on Sunday, March 14, starting at 1:45 p.m. MST, with Round 2 followed by the championship round. CBS Sports Network will carry the event at 10 p.m. EDT (check local listings).

Two People Arrested for Theft of Catalytic Converters on I-70

0

Two women were taken to jail today after getting caught allegedly stealing catalytic converters from disabled vehicles along Indianapolis area interstates.

At 6:37 a.m. Indiana State Police Dispatchers received information from INDOT‘s Traffic Management Dispatchers, who were monitoring traffic cameras, about suspicious activity around a vehicle on the shoulder of I-70 westbound near the 78.7-mile marker.

Trooper Brandon Alberts responded to the call and when he arrived he found two vehicles on the side of the road.

When Alberts questioned the two women present with the vehicles he determined they were together in one of the vehicles and one vehicle had been abandoned by someone unknown to the women.

Subsequently Master Trooper Justin Hobbs, who arrived on scene to assist, observed two catalytic converters in the back of a Jeep Commander that the two women were occupying. Alberts also found a reciprocating saw on the ground on the passenger side of the abandoned vehicle. The investigation led to both women being taken into custody and arrested for theft. Troopers located two other vehicles in close proximity that had been abandoned along I-70, both of those vehicles had the catalytic converter cut off. Troopers were able to match the two catalytic converters that were located in the back seat of the Jeep to the two other abandoned vehicles.

27 year old Elizabeth Smith of Indianapolis and 28 year old Farrah Carpenter of Indianapolis were both arrested and preliminarily charged with Theft, a level 5 felony (Valuable Metal – 3 counts, 1 attempted), and Criminal Mischief, a B misdemeanor (3 counts, 1 attempted)

The theft of catalytic converters from abandoned vehicles along central Indiana interstates is not uncommon. We would like to remind motorists to only leave your vehicle abandoned if absolutely necessary and return to get it as soon as possible.

Motorists are encouraged to report suspicious activity around disabled for abandoned vehicles to police.

Rarely do roadside repairs involve the use of any type of saw, if you see someone with a saw approaching a disabled or abandoned vehicle please get a description of the person or vehicle they are driving and report it to police.

All crimes mentioned in this release are alleged and all suspects are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.

The charges listed are merely accusations and probable cause for arrest, actual charges will be determined by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office upon review of the case.

Beginning on or around Monday, March 15, contractors will begin restricting traffic on S.R. 450 between U.S 50 and S.R. 37 as they start prep work for a resurfacing project.

This phase of the operation includes removing road reflectors during daytime hours. The asphalt resurfaces a portion of the project is slated to begin at the end of March.

During the project, one lane will be closed, and one 11-foot lane will remain open. Traffic will be controlled by flaggers. The Indiana Department of Transportation announces lane restrictions for U.S. 150 near French Lick for tree clearing in advance of a bridge replacement project.

Beginning on or around Monday, March 15, contractors will begin restricting traffic to one lane during the daytime hours as they clear trees near the U.S. 150 bridge spanning Kanie Creek, about 1.6 miles west of the intersection of S.R. 56.

The structure replacement on the bridge is scheduled for later this spring and an announcement will be forthcoming with precise dates.

A lengthy investigation conducted by Indiana State Police Drug Enforcement Section (DES) detectives and Troopers of the ISP Bloomington District A.C.E.S. concluded with an arrest for dealing methamphetamine and almost ½ pound of methamphetamine seized.

The Indiana State Police had obtained information that Darrell Cox, 56, Taswell was dealing large amounts of methamphetamine in multiple counties, including Lawrence County. Using a wide range of investigative techniques, ISP was able to confirm the allegations.

In the early morning hours of Saturday, March 13th, Cox was located driving his 2006 Chevrolet truck southbound on SR 37, south of Ingram Road, in excess of the posted speed limit. Trp. At the conclusion of the investigation, Cox was incarcerated at the Lawrence County Jail for the following offenses:

Multiple counties are safer today thanks to this arrest of this large-scale methamphetamine dealer.”
