This afternoon, a Seymour man was arrested on two counts of attempted murder following a shooting inside the Jackson County Public Library.

Emiliano Cuevas-Bravo, 18, Seymour was arrested and incarcerated at the Jackson County Jail on preliminary charges of Attempted Murder-2 counts, Criminal Recklessness with a Deadly Weapon-1 count, and Intimidation-1 count.

The initial investigation by Seymour Police Detectives, Investigators with the Indiana State Police-Versailles Post, and Agents with the FBI-Indianapolis Field Office indicates that just prior to noon today, Emiliano Cuevas-Bravo, age 18, Seymour, entered the front entrance of the library.

Immediately upon entering the library, he fired one shot from a long gun towards two employees working nearby, causing one employee to sustain non-life threatening injuries.

Cuevas-Bravo then went to the second floor of the library where he placed the gun on the floor.

A patron of the library then tackled him and held him there for law enforcement officers.

Seymour Police Officers were on scene very quickly and took him into custody.

Officers from the Indiana State Police, Jackson County Sheriff’s Department, and Indiana Excise Police were also on scene within minutes.

The Columbus Police Department additionally provided valuable resources during the investigation.

Additional information gathered during the investigation indicated that Cuevas-Bravo went to Seymour High School earlier in the morning to initially target a Seymour Police Department School Resource Officer.

Cuevas-Bravo never entered the school or made contact with the officer before he eventually left and went to the library.

Cuevas-Bravo will soon face an initial hearing in the Jackson County Circuit Court.

The multi-agency investigation remains ongoing at this time. Investigators remained on scene throughout the afternoon.

Jackson County EMS and the Seymour Fire Department also assisted at the scene.

0
Indiana State Police, with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service, arrested a Washington County man in Louisville, Kentucky, on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, on four counts of child molestation, each a Level 1 felony.

In March 2025, an Indiana Department of Child Services family case manager reported allegations to ISP Detective Travis Baker, who launched a criminal investigation alongside DCS personnel.

The investigation included a forensic interview at a local child advocacy center, which indicated illegal sexual contact between a child and Benjamin D. Turner, 40, of Washington County.

At the conclusion of Detective Baker’s investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for Turner, who was believed to be in the Louisville area.

The U.S. Marshals Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force located Turner on Tuesday in Louisville and took him into custody without incident.

Turner awaits extradition to Indiana to face charges.

Chip seal operations planned on U.S. 31 in Clark County

0

Indiana Department of Transportation maintenance crews plan to begin chip seal operations on U.S. 31 in Clark County on or after Monday, May 5.

Crews will be active between County Road 403 and State Road 160 north of Sellersburg. Motorists should expect lane closures and flagging operations while work is in progress. Chip seal work typically lasts three days per location depending upon weather.

During operations, existing pavement is coated with liquid asphalt, which seals cracks and provides waterproof protection. This extends the service life of the roadway and lowers maintenance costs. Once the roadway is coated with liquid asphalt, loose aggregate is applied and excess material is swept from the roadway. After a curing period, crews will return to fog seal the new driving surface and apply pavement markings.
