Orange County Joins Martin, Lawrence Counties in Burn Bans
The Orange County Commissioners have issued a burn ban, after over half of Indiana has been listed as abnormally dry according to the US Department of Agriculture.
All of the following are prohibited, with exceptions:
- Campfires and other recreational fires UNLESS they are in a fire ring at least 23 inches in diameter and 10 inches high, or larger
.2. Open burning (control burns or brush burns) of any kind with conventional fuel such as wood or other combustible matter EXCEPT for charcoal grills or grills fueled by propane.
The burn ban will be in effect until 09-22-2020.
This will make the third county in southern Indiana to issue a burn ban as dry conditions continue throughout the State of Indiana.
Both Martin and Lawrence Counties have issued burn bans so far.
They are listed as DO – or Abnormally Dry in the Drought Monitor Index at droughmointor.org
Thirteen northern Indiana counties are listed as D1 Moderately Dry, which is the second step of a five-stage scale.
IU Football Schedule Released; No Fans at Games

Indiana will host Penn State on Saturday, Oct. 24, to open its eight-game 2020 regular season, the Big Ten Conference announced Saturday morning.
Each team will play a ninth game during a newly created Big Ten Champions Week the weekend of Dec. 19, with details to be announced at a later time.
Special date games, including Fridays, will be determined and announced at a later date along with game times and television designations.
The Hoosiers will also welcome Michigan (Nov. 7), Maryland (Nov. 28) and Purdue (Dec. 12) to Memorial Stadium.
IU will travel to Rutgers (Oct. 31), Michigan State (Nov. 14), Ohio State (Nov. 21) and Wisconsin (Dec. 5).
Per Big Ten guidelines, fans will not be permitted in 2020.

32-Year-Old Campbellsburg Man Found Dead in Livonia
The Washington County Sheriff’s Department is on the scene in Livonia investigating a reported suicide.
Officers were called to Livonia, about 15 minutes west of Salem at 10:58a Friday.
Upon arrival, officers found a deceased male identified as Anthony Godbey, 32, Campbellsburg.
Godbey’s body was located in a shelter house at 130 West Church Street, which is located near the Livonia Presbyterian Church.
According to the police, the death investigation is ongoing.

Deputy Joseph Keltner was assisted by Deputy Abby Powers.
Also assisting was the Washington County EMS, Washington County Coroner’s Office, and the Livonia Fire Department.
Bettye Ann Mason Kemple, 89, of Paoli
Bettye Ann Mason Kemple, 89, of Paoli, Indiana, passed away eternal rest on Thursday September 17, 2020 at her home. She was born June 7, 1931 in Orange County, Indiana to Elijah Barnet and Fern Malinda Cole Mason. Bettye married Paul Kemple on May 8, 1954 and he preceded her in death.
Bettye was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul; son, Danny Joe; and brother, Walter Elijah Mason.
She was a member of PHS Class of 1949, First Presbyterian Church of Paoli, Order of the Eastern Star, Orange County DAR, Orange County Historical Society, and Genealogy Society. Bettye was a mother and homemaker. She was employed for Paoli Chamber of Commerce for many years and Kemple’s Quick Lube.
Bettye enjoyed genealogy research, her church, and spending time with family and friends.
Survivors include:

John Mason (Adina) Kemple French Lick, Indiana
Daughters:Terrie Lee (Eddie) Crane Paoli, Indiana
Paula Ann (Bobby) Minton Paoli, Indiana
9-Grandchildren and 10-Great Grandchildren also survive Bettye Ann Mason Kemple.
A private funeral service will be Monday September 21, 2020.
Visitation will be held Sunday September 20, 2020 from 3:00-7:00 PM at the First Presbyterian Church of Paoli located at 110 NE First Street Paoli, Indiana 47454.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Paoli Public Library in care of the OCCF located 1075 Sandy Hook Rd Ste 2, Paoli IN 47454.
