West Washington School Corporation is moving to three days of in-person education over the next two weeks after a custodian has tested positive for Covid-19 and the rest of the custodial staff has been quarantined due to contact tracing.
The positive test was identified on Sunday, Oct. 11 and by Monday, Oct. 12 it was identified that the remaining custodial staff “cannot appropriately sanitize our school each night in time for everyone to safely return the next morning,” according to a social media release.
“More than half of our custodial staff was affected by the contact tracing and will be quarantined and not able to return to work until 10/23/20. Therefore WWSC will be making an adjustment to our schedule for the next two weeks to ensure that our building and classrooms are properly sanitized.”
The school will be held in person on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays with virtual only on Tuesdays and Thursdays through October. The schedule is as follows:
Week of 10/12/20-10/16/20:
Week of 10/19/20-10/23/20:
According to the original social media post, the school says this does not impact any teaching staff, support staff or office staff.
“With last week being Fall Break, we had limited staff in the building and no students,” the post noted. “We still have the ability to sanitize daily and nightly, but it is going to stretch our staff thin. I cannot express how thankful and proud I am of our custodial staff and the job they have done and will continue to do during these unprecedented times.”
A Huntington man was arrested for OWI while transporting his two-year-old son.
Chaz Lengacher, 33, 612 East First Street, Huntingburg, IN was stopped last night near Otwell.
He was arrested and charged with:
Last night at approximately 8:52, Pike County Dispatch received a 911 call regarding a single-vehicle crash at the corner of CR 1000 East and CR 325 North near Otwell.
The caller also reported a male and a small child were standing outside the truck. Pike County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived on the scene at approximately 9:05 p.m. but didn’t find the driver or child. Trooper Angermeier arrived on the scene and a search of the area was conducted.
Moments later, Deputy Collier located the male driver and the child near a cornfield approximately ½ mile away from the crash site. The driver was identified as Chaz Lengacher, 33, of Huntingburg, and the child, was identified as Lengacher’s two-year-old son.
Lengacher displayed signs of impairment and failed field sobriety tests. Officers on the scene were able to determine Lengacher was driving his 1998 Chevrolet pickup truck when he lost control and crashed into a ditch.
Lengacher’s two-year-old son received minor injuries and was checked by Pike County EMS. The two-year-old did not require hospitalization and was released to his mother. Lengacher refused medical treatment at the scene.
Further investigation revealed Lengacher had a blood alcohol content of .12%. He is currently being held without bond in the Pike County Jail.
