Goat & Sheep FAMACHA and Basic Care Workshop

The Washington County Goat Association and the Washington County Sheep Association invite goat and sheep producers to a FAMACHA and Basic Care Workshop from 2:00-6:00 pm on Saturday, October 19, 2019 at the Washington County Fairgrounds (118 Fair St.) in Salem.

This workshop will focus on parasite management, FAMACHA certification, and basic care of goats and sheep. Local goat and sheep producers will provide examples of their livestock for workshop participants to practice FAMACHA scoring.

Dr. Beth Johnson, Field Veterinary for Kentucky Department of Agriculture and Dr. Kristin Tormoehlen, Veterinarian at Brownstown Veterinary Clinic will be the workshop presenters.

84th IBEP Bull Sale – October 19, 2019

The 84th performance test of the Indiana Beef Evaluation Program finished September 23, 2019, at the Feldun-Purdue Ag Center in Bedford. A total of 61 bulls from five breeds completed the test.

The bulls were entered by 26 seed stock producers from Indiana, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, and Ohio. Bulls were fed a moderate-energy ration during the 125-day test and daily gain for the entire group was 3.01 lbs. The bulls are in ideal body condition for use this fall or next spring.

This is an excellent set of bulls that offer a range of performance for the economically
important traits. Hereford bull #199 will enter the ring first. He had a Performance Index of 111.1. His EPD’s rank in the top 10% of the breed for weaning weight, yearling weight, maternal calving ease, carcass weight, marbling, ribeye area, and BMI$, BII$, and CHB$ indexes.

The bull was sired by NJW 33TB 100W Trust 167Y and is owned by Greives Herefords, West Lafayette, Indiana.

Angus #207 had the highest Performance Index, 120.1. He was sired by Rock Creek Rancher 1495, is owned by Halls Angus, Eddyville, Illinois, and will be 2nd in the ring. Three more Angus bulls from Halls Angus immediately follow #207 in the ring: #210 and 205 sired by Hilltop Open Range 2279 and #208 sired by 3F Epic 4631. They are followed by three Angus bulls from Mickey Angus, Pana, Illinois, bulls #236, 237, and 238, sired by Baldridge 38 Special.

These three made up the top indexing get-of-sire group.

Cattle producers looking for bulls that will add pounds, quality, and value to their calves will not want to miss the sale on Saturday, October 19 at the Springville Feeder Auction, Springville, Indiana.

Bulls will sell immediately following the Springville Feeder Auction Association’s Heifer and
Cow sale, which starts at 2:00 PM. In addition, the sale will be broadcast live over the internet through DVAuction Services.

Users with high-speed internet access and interested in buying or just viewing
the sale need to visit the DVAuction web site at www.dvauction.com. If you plan to purchase a bull via the DVAuction site, you should preregister with DVAuction to establish your financial credentials.

A total of 28 bulls will be offered for sale: 19 Angus, 5 Hereford, 1 Red Angus, and 3
SimAngus. These 28 bulls were the top indexing bulls of their breed and passed a rigorous inspection for breeding and structural soundness. Also, all bulls have been measured by ultrasound for ribeye area, backfat and percent intramuscular fat (marbling). In addition, EPD’s for birth weight, weaning weight, yearling weight, maternal milk, calving ease, disposition, carcass traits, and $ indexes are available to assist producers in bull selection.

Bulls may be seen at the Test Station, located at the Feldun-Purdue Ag. Center, 3 miles
northwest of Bedford on SR 158 and 458 or after Noon on October 19 at the Springville Feeder Auction.

Mt. Vernon Man Arrested for Child Molesting

Indiana State Police initiated a criminal investigation in September after receiving information a female under the age of 16 had been sexually molested by a 33-year-old Mt. Vernon man.

During the investigation, Indiana State Police Detective Wes Kuykendall revealed Curtis Mosby, 33, of Mt. Vernon, had allegedly molested the female in January 2019.

The female victim is also under the age of 16. This morning the investigation continued at the Indiana State Police Post in Evansville, which resulted in the arrest of Mosby.

He was taken to the Posey County Jail where he is currently being held on bond.

Oakland City Man Arrested for Theft from Local Restaurant

Indiana State Police arrested a former Oakland City restaurant manager for allegedly stealing over $36,000 from the owner of Mom’s Diner in Oakland City.

Indiana State Police Detective Tobias Odom initiated a criminal investigation on August 30th after receiving information from the restaurant owner regarding a significant amount of missing money.

Roger Norrick, 54, of Oakland City, was the restaurant manager and responsible for calculating daily sales and making nightly deposits.

The investigation revealed Norrick allegedly stole over $36,000 between January and August 2019.

After reviewing this investigation, Gibson County Prosecutor’s Office issued a warrant for Norrick’s arrest.

He was arrested at 10:40 this morning at his Oakland City residence without incident. Norrick was taken to the Gibson County Jail where he is currently being held on bond.

Indiana State Parole with Scott County Sheriff’s Office, Austin City Police and the Indiana State Police, Conduct “Operation No B.S.”

On Sept. 27, the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, Austin Police Department, and the Indiana State Police assisted the Indiana State Parole Office in conducting a parolee sweep of parolees living in Scott County. 

During this sweep, a total of 19 parolees and residences were visited.  

A total of three people were arrested from the visits.

During the sweeps, Lori LaMaster, 44, of Scottsburg, was arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine, Maintaining a Common Nuisance and Possession of Paraphernalia. 

Joshua Spicer, 33, of Scottsburg, was arrested for Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Marijuana, Maintaining a Common Nuisance, Unlawful Possession of a Syringe and Possession of Paraphernalia. 

Dwayne May, 45, of Austin, was arrested for Unlawful Possession of a Syringe and Maintaining a Common Nuisance.  Additional arrest warrants will be sought for other parolees who are in violation of their parole.

Sheriff Goodin stated, “we are using every tool in the toolbox to make sure Scott County is safe for its citizens”.

Cincinnati Man Killed in Dearborn County Crash

On Saturday, September 28, 2019, at approximately 4:15 pm, the Indiana State Police responded to a two vehicle crash on US 52 at I-74, near West Harrison, Indiana that claimed the life of a motorcyclist and sent his passenger to a Cincinnati hospital with serious injuries.

The initial investigation by Trooper Andrew Garrett, Indiana State Police-Versailles Crash Reconstruction Team, indicated that a black 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe, being driven by Rebecca Marchan, age 28, Cincinnati, Ohio was attempting to turn from US 52 Eastbound onto I-74 Eastbound in northern Dearborn County.  Marchan’s vehicle turned into the path of a 1999 Harley-Davidson motorcycle, being driven by Clyde Reynolds, age 58, Cincinnati, Ohio, that was traveling westbound on US 52. The two vehicles collided in the middle of US 52.

As a result of the collision, Reynolds sustained fatal injuries.  He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Dearborn County Coroner’s Office.  A passenger on Reynolds’ vehicle, Virginia Hummell, age 33, Milan, Indiana was transported to University of Cincinnati Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.  Marchan was not injured in the collision. 

The investigation is ongoing.  Toxicology results on both drivers are pending at this time.

Clyde Reynolds’ family has been notified.

The Indiana State Police was assisted by the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Department, West Harrison EMS, West Harrison Fire Department, and the Dearborn County Coroner’s Office.

Scott County Arrests

On September 28, 2019, Deputies John Hartman, Josh Juliot and Reserve Deputy Joe Lucas of the Scott County Sheriff’s Office were requested for assistance by Deputy John Smith at the intersection of State Road 56 and Boatman Road for a suspicious vehicle with a person inside that was sleeping.  Upon arrival an investigation led to the arrest of Michael Lee, 55, of Scottsburg for Possession of Methamphetamine, Maintaining a Common Nuisance, Possession of Paraphernalia and Public Intoxication.

On September 29, 2019, Deputy James Ward of the Scott County Sheriff’s Office assisted Deputy Joe Baker on a drug investigation in Scottsburg.  During the investigation, Justin Chitwood, 33, of Jeffersonville, Indiana was arrested on an out of county warrant.

On September 29, 2019, Captain Joe Guarneri with the Scott County Sheriff’s Office served an outstanding warrant at the Sheriff’s Office on Sara Campbell.  Sara Campbell, 24 of Dale, Indiana was arrested on the warrant for Unlawful Possession of a Syringe.

On September 30, 2019, Deputy James Ward with the Scott County Sheriff’s Office was on routine patrol when he observed a male that he knew to have an outstanding warrant.  Deputy Ward made contact with the male with the assistance of the Scottsburg City Police at a local business in Scottsburg.  Shortly thereafter Robert Campbell, 44, of Scottsburg was arrested on an outstanding warrant through Scott County for Domestic Battery by Means of Deadly Weapon, Criminal Confinement results in bodily injury, Domestic Battery, Domestic Battery by Bodily Waste and also a Parole Warrant.  Robert Campbell was also listed on the wanted on a warrant Wednesday.

On September 30, 2019, Deputy James Ward of the Scott County Sheriff’s Office served an outstanding warrant at the Sheriff’s Office on Jonathan Jones.  Jonathan Jones, 33, of Scottsburg was arrested on the warrant for Residential Entry and Criminal Trespass.

27-Year-Old Driver Arrested in Double Fatality Crash That Killed Husband and Wife

The Knox County Prosecutor’s Office issued an arrest warrant last Friday, September 27, for Joshua A. Roark, 27, of Vincennes, in connection to a vehicle crash in June that killed John and Rita Buck, both 71, from Freelandville.

On June 12, Roark was traveling southbound on SR 159 approaching Brocksmith Road when he drove left of center and collided head-on into a vehicle occupied by John and Rita Buck.

Further investigation by Indiana State Police revealed Roark was under the influence of methamphetamine. Roark turned himself in at the Knox County Jail where he posted bond and was later released.

On June 2 at approximately 4:34, Indiana State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on SR 159 north of Bicknell that killed a Freelandville couple and injured a Vincennes man.

Preliminary investigation revealed John B. Buck, 71, of Freelandville, was driving his 2002 Jeep northbound on SR 159 approximately ½ mile north of Brocksmith Road.

Roark, was traveling southbound on SR 159 approaching Brocksmith Road when for unknown reasons drove left of center and collided head-on into Buck’s vehicle.

The couple was both pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Roark was airlifted to St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville where he is being treated for serious injuries. SR 159 was closed for approximately 3 hours while troopers investigated the crash.

 

Jeffersonville Man Arrested for Dealing Meth

Around 12:30 Tuesday morning, Trooper Tatum Rohlfing was patrolling on Lewis and Clark Parkway when he observed a pick-up truck make an unsafe lane movement. 

Trooper Rohlfing checked the vehicle’s license plate when stopping the truck and learned the plate returned to a different vehicle. 

Trooper Rohlfing spoke with the driver, and sole occupant, Jay J. Hart, 58, Jeffersonville, and further learned that Hart’s Driver’s License was suspended.

Also, as a result of his continued investigation, Trooper Rohlfing located over 40 grams of methamphetamine as well as paraphernalia. 

Hart was arrested at the scene and, in addition to the traffic offenses, is charged with the following:

  •    Dealing in Methamphetamine – Level 2 Felony
  •    Possession of Methamphetamine – Level 3 Felony
  •    Maintaining a Common Nuisance – Level 6 Felony
  •    Possession of Paraphernalia – Class A Misdemeanor.

Troopers Dustin Zehnder and Justin Mears assisted on the stop, along with Jeffersonville Police Sergeant Leverett and his assigned K9, “Flex”.
