Alice M. (Jones) Rothrock, 79, of Milltown, Indiana passed from this life on April 27, 2024 at Baptist Health- Floyd with her loving family by her side. She was born on June 3, 1944 near Milltown, Indiana to the late Melvin and Mabel M. (Sarles) Jones.
Alice was a former gift shop manager for Marengo Cave and was a homemaker. She was a member of the Milltown Christian Church and loved sewing, knitting, traveling, and going to Casinos. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son-in-law, Randy Jessie; and a brother, Clayton E. Jones.
Alice is survived by her husband, David L. Rothrock; son, David D. Rothrock; daughter, Rhonda S. Jessie; brother, Terry L. Jones; sister, Rose Mary Ponder-Keeling; grandchildren, Ryan (Nikki), Elizabeth, Alyssa (Steven), Emily (Chris), and Ellen; and great-grandchildren, Tyler, Cameron, Kayla, and Ellie.
Funeral services will be on Monday, April 29, 2024 at 3:00 p.m., at the Milltown Christian Church. Interment will follow in the Union Chapel Cemetery, near Milltown, Indiana.
Visitation will be after 11:00 a.m. until time of the service at 3:00 p.m., at the church.
Bro. Jim Smith will officiate the service.

David Lynn Gaither, 83, of Salem, Indiana died on April 26, 2024 at Salem Crossing in Salem, Indiana. David was born on January 15, 1941 in Lima, Ohio to the late Lynn Gaither and Mary (Denning) Womack.
David was a United States Navy Veteran and electrical engineer for Honeywell, CFL Logistics, Connersville Hospital, and Simon Brothers. He was a member of St. Timothy Episcopal Church, Fransican Third Order. After retirement, David served communion to patients at his local hospitals. He enjoyed studying history, science, and Religion.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, James Gaither; and a sister, Marilyn Price.
He is survived by his wife, Roxanne (McNaughton) Gaither of Salem, Indiana; 3 sons; a step-son, Ben Gritton (Tracey) of Louisville, Kentucky; his pet cat, Boo Boo; grandchildren, Charlie and Sam; nephews, Steve Price (Barb) of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Jim Price (Rachel) of Virginia, and Mike Gaither (Sandy) of Soddy Daisy, Tennessee; a niece, Barbara Siemens (Steve) of Des Moines, Iowa; sister-in-law Beth Roberson (Clint) of Fredericksburg, Indiana; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

Cremation was chosen and there will be no services at this time.

Washington County Treasurer Nancy Coats states that Sprint Property Tax Bills will be due by May 10 and were sent out earlier this month.
Residents can pay their taxes in a variety of ways without penalty before May 10.
According to Coats, cash can only be paid in person at the Courthouse or at First Savings Bank.
“Please do not pay with cash when using the drop box or mail,” noted Coats. “If paying by mail, your payment will be on time if it is postmarked from the postal service by May 10 th or November 12 th , 2024, for the fall portion.”
ALL unpaid taxes will be assessed a penalty of 5% for the first 30 days following the deadline. An additional 5% will be assessed after the 30-day period, which will total a 10% penalty.
If a taxpayer if delinquent on three installments, the property will be added to the Tax Sale.
Coats said tax statements are mailed one time each year. The statement has installment coupons for both Spring and Fall, so please put these in a safe place.

Yesterday, the former treasurer of the Aurora Farmers Fair was arrested on a felony theft charge after an investigation by Indiana State Police Investigators into multiple unauthorized purchases made since 2022 using farmers fair funds.
The investigation by Detectives with the Indiana State Police-Versailles Post began in March of this year when the fair board reported money missing from the Aurora Farmers Fair Bank Accounts.
During the course of the investigation, it was determined that board treasurer during that timeframe, Scott A. Petty, age 54, Moores Hill, Indiana used the farmers fair credit card and bank account to pay for personal vacations, bills, car payments, and other miscellaneous items.
In total, Petty allegedly spent in excess of $70,000 of the farmers fair funds for his personal gain.
At the conclusion of the investigation, the case was presented to the Dearborn County Prosecutor’s Office for review. As a result, Petty was charged with one count of Theft (over $50,000)-Level 5 Felony.
Petty turned himself in to the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center yesterday where he was incarcerated on the charge pending an initial appearance in court.
Indiana Department of Transportation maintenance crews plan to reduce northbound and southbound I-65 to one lane beginning on or after Monday, April 29, to complete bridge washing work in Clark, Jackson and Scott Counties.
Crews plan to conduct nightly lane closures between Henryville and Seymour for up to three nights, weather permitting. Crews will begin work along northbound I-65 and complete work along southbound I-65.
Northbound work will begin in Clark County and end in Jackson County. Southbound work will begin in Jackson County and end in Clark County. Crews plan to work from approximately 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. each night.
INDOT reminds motorists to slow down, use caution and drive distraction-free in and near work zones. All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.
On April 19, 2024, Investigators with the Indiana State Police-Versailles Post arrested a Bartholomew County man on felony charges after an eight-month investigation into allegations of child molesting.
The investigation began in August 2023 when allegations were reported to the Indiana State Police. During the investigation, detectives determined that prior to August of last year, Jayden K. Hardwick, age 20, allegedly had improper contact with two juveniles in Bartholomew County.
At the conclusion of the investigation, the case was presented to the Bartholomew County Prosecutor’s Office. As a result, a warrant was issued for Hardwick on charges of Child Molesting-Level 3 Felony (2 counts), and Sexual Misconduct with a Minor-Level 5 Felony (1 count).
On Friday afternoon, Troopers arrested Hardwick on the felony charges. He was incarcerated in the Bartholomew County Jail pending an initial appearance in court.
Leonard Lee Mink, 70, of Paoli, passed on April 22 at his home in Paoli. He was born November 17,1953 in Paoli, IN to William “Willy” and Ora Reese Mink, both of whom preceded him. He was also preceded by brothers: Wayne, Jim, and Clarence Mink, and sister: Jean Hughes. He married Vicky Newlin on July 26, 1975, and she survives.
Leonard attended church at Little Mission and Lost River Missionary Baptist Church.
He retired from Layne Construction.
Leonard enjoyed fishing and tinkering with small engines. What he loved most of all was spending time with his family and his beloved dog Axle.

Nancy Dowell, age 91, of Salem passed away Tuesday, April 9, 2024 at Ascension St. Vincent Salem Hospital. Born July 1, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Vernon Medlock and Katherine (Clark) Fess.
Nancy was a retired bookkeeper and a member of the Blue River Friends Quaker church.
She is survived by her 2 children, Keith Swann and Tina Dowell; daughter-in- law, Gloria Dowell; son-in-law, Corkey Vance; 1 brother, Edwin Dale Fess; 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 1 daughter, Jeri Lynn Vance; 1 son, Bruce Dowell; and 2 sisters.
