Meth and Stolen Vehicle Recovered after Pursuit

0

On Thursday, September 12, 2019, Officers recovered a vehicle reported stolen out of Bartholomew County after a 10-mile pursuit crossed county lines and ended when the car was remotely disabled.

Around 2:30 yesterday afternoon, a Clark County Sheriff’s Deputy advised he was northbound on I-65 near the 18 mile-marker and behind a red Chevrolet Malibu which was reported stolen earlier in the day.

When the Deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, the car increased speed and tried to flee from the officer.  Numerous officers were in the area and joined in the pursuit including officers from the Indiana State Police in Sellersburg and the Clarksville Police Department.

The vehicle continued north on I-65 and into Scott County, eluding officers’ attempts to use Stop Sticks along the way.

The passenger was also observed throwing an unknown substance out of the passenger window of the car.  Realizing the car was equipped with a subscription-based navigation and security service, Indiana State Police Dispatch contacted the service and requested the vehicle be remotely disabled.

Once the vehicle was disabled, it began to slow down and safely stopped on the side of the roadway.

After officers detained both occupants, the investigation also revealed meth and paraphernalia inside the car.

The driver, Ryan Andrew Moody, 40, of Columbus, Indiana, and the passenger, Audrey Fay Crank, 20, of Hope, Indiana were taken into custody without incident and remanded into the Clark County Jail.

They are both charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, a level 6 Felony, and Possession of Paraphernalia, a Class A Misdemeanor.

Moody is also charged with Auto Theft, a Level 5 Felony, and Reckless Driving, a Class A Misdemeanor.

Social Security Administration Phone Scam

0

Indiana State Police Detectives at the Evansville post are receiving complaints again about the social security scam. You may receive a call from a person claiming to be a representative from the Social Security Administration and telling you there is an issue with your social security number. Their goal is to obtain your personal information, including your social security number. The caller may even tell you that additional funds or rebates are possible, but they need your personal information to proceed.

Anyone wanting to report a call from someone they suspect was impersonating a Social Security Administration employee should contact the Office of the Inspector General at 1-800-269-0271.

Indiana State Police are offering the following tips:

  • Don’t assume the caller identification information is accurate. Scammers use “spoofing” technology to trick caller ID.
  • If you don’t recognize the phone number, don’t answer.
  • Don’t call a phone number left on your voice mail by a robocall.
  • Social Security Administration employees will never threaten you to obtain information or promise benefits in exchange for information from you.
  • Never give your personal information over the phone or email.
  • Never make a payment by using prepaid cards or wire transfer. These transactions are nearly impossible to recover.

Pekin Man Flees; Gets Additional Charges

0

A Pekin man wanted for possession of methamphetamine faces new drug charges after attempting to flee from Troopers Friday evening.

Shortly after 7 p.m., Troopers Kyle Taylor, Cameron Collins, and Jeremy Simcoe arrived at a May Drive residence in Fredericksburg, Indiana armed with a warrant for Cassidy Marion, 34, of Pekin, Indiana.

The warrant was for possession of methamphetamine. At the time of his arrest, Troopers allegedly found additional suspected drugs and paraphernalia on Marion.

In addition to the original warrant, Marion is charged with Dealing in Methamphetamine – Level 3 Felony, Possession of Methamphetamine – Level 6 Felony, Possession of Paraphernalia – Class A Misdemeanor, and Resisting Law Enforcement – Class A Misdemeanor.

Upon arriving at the residence, Troopers made contact with Marion, who immediately fled on foot into the woods; however, the officers took chase and were soon able to apprehend him.

Marion was arrested and transported to the Washington County Jail without further incident.

County bonus antlerless quotas lowered to 2 due to EHD

0

Indiana DNR has reduced the County Bonus Antlerless Quotas (CBAQ) for deer hunting in the affected areas in southern Indiana to a maximum of two because of the effect of epizootic hemorrhagic disease (EHD) on the deer herd this year.

The CBAQ of counties that already have quotas of two or fewer will remain the same.

The Special Antlerless Firearms Season is only allowed in counties marked in green on the CBAQ map.

These counties previously had a county bonus antlerless quota of four but were reduced to a maximum of two.

Humans are not at risk for contracting EHD.

EHD is a viral disease that may affect white-tailed deer to some degree every year. It typically occurs during late summer and early fall, and there is evidence that outbreaks can be more severe in years in which there is a wet spring followed by a hot, dry fall. EHD is transmitted by flies commonly known as biting midges, sand gnats, and “no-see-ums.”

EHD is often fatal to deer but some survive it. Not every deer in an affected area contracts EHD. One sign that a deer has contracted and survived EHD is that its hooves will show evidence of sloughing or breaking.

As a result, the DNR asks that successful hunters use the After Hunt Survey (wildlife.IN.gov/9813.htm) to report the condition of their harvested deer’s hooves, including both normal hooves and hooves that show evidence of sloughing or breaking.

The DNR monitors for EHD annually. The most recent significant EHD outbreaks were in 2007 and 2012. Severe outbreaks rarely occur in consecutive years due to immunity from previous infections. EHD is not believed to have long-term impacts on the deer population.

The effects of the harvest and EHD will be evaluated after the hunting season. If necessary, additional charges will be made next year.

Anyone who finds a deer they suspect died of EHD is asked to file a report using the “Report a Dead or Sick Deer” form at deer.dnr.IN.gov.

CELEBRATIONS PLANNED FOR HALL OF FAMER’S FINAL DAYS IN THE BOOTH

0

When the Reds return home next Friday night for the final homestand of the season, it won’t just be the end of the season on the horizon, but a farewell to legendary broadcaster Marty Brennaman as well.

The Hall of Famer is headed for retirement at the conclusion of his 46th season, and the club has a number of celebrations planned to ensure that Reds Country can give Marty a fitting send-off. Among the festivities is a unique opportunity for fans to watch Marty broadcast from a temporary radio booth inside the seating bowl for the Sept. 20 game, along with pregame appearances there on Sept. 24 and 25. Fans will also be treated to a special father-son broadcast featuring Marty and Thom Brennaman on the radio for the Sept. 25 game.

Each game of the final series Sept. 24-26 against the Brewers will feature a giveaway to celebrate Marty, culminating with a Reds handheld radio to the first 20,000 fans on Sept. 26. Fans at the game will be able to use the radios to tune to 94.5 FM and hear Marty’s farewell call right from their seats. That final home game on Sept. 26 will also feature post-game ceremonies to honor Marty’s iconic career, including all fans being invited onto the field for a special “Marty Party” with Marty and FOX Sports Ohio’s Jim Day.

Be sure to get your tickets now to be a part of this special celebration of Marty Brennaman’s career during the final Reds home games of the season. Visit reds.com/Marty for all the details.

GETTING TO THE GAME

The Indiana Department of Transportation (“INDOT”) has advised that there are several ongoing traffic projects that could impact travel times from various points around the state for Saturday’s game. Because the impact of these projects is constantly evolving and changing, INDOT advises that fans should utilize the following tools:

 Waze App

Waze, a community based traffic and navigation app, will be used to communicate traffic patterns in real time. Fans are strongly encouraged to download it and utilize it during their trip to Memorial Stadium. The app will automatically update the football pre and postgame traffic pattern as they go into effect. Download it here.

 INDOT TrafficWise

TrafficWise can be found on INDOT’s website and provides information about traffic conditions, road closures, traffic cameras, travel times and message boards. Fans can also call 1-800-261-7623 for updates. Current Restrictions/Closings.

 Text Updates

Fans can opt in to the text alert system by texting IUFB to 313131 to begin receiving alerts from IU Athletics.  Only pertinent information surrounding travel, traffic, weather and emergency situations will be shared on the text system.
