Carolyn Ruth Haag, age 105, of Salem, IN, passed away Tuesday, December 24, 2024 at 2:05 a.m., in her residence.
She was born June 12, 1919 in New Philadelphia, IN., the daughter of the late Louis DeJean and Helen Wiggs DeJean.
Carolyn attended schools in Salem, IN and was a graduate
of Salem High School in 1936. She then attended Hanover College, graduating in 1939. While at Hanover College, she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority and was awarded the Best All-around Senior Student, based on her academic and athletic performance. In 2002, she was inducted into the Hanover College Athletic Hall of Fame.
Following her graduation, she taught school in Bedford, IN. Carolyn met and married Willis Haag November 30, 1943, and they moved to Kansas while Willis served in the Army Air Corp at Ft. Leonard Wood.
After WWII, they moved to Jasper, IN where Willis owned a clothing store and Carolyn began the task of raising their three sons. In 1958, the family moved to Salem, IN
where Carolyn began a long career teaching Health, Physical Education and English at the Salem Junior High School, retiring in 1987. She was also active in Tri Kappa, the Women’s Club and Retired Teachers Association and was active with the Presbyterian Church.
In her later years, she enjoyed gardening, bird watching, visiting with her friends and family and observing nature through her picture windows.
Carolyn is survived by son Roger Haag of Carmel, IN, son Dr. Brian Haag of Carmel, IN, daughters-in-law Suzy Haag of Carmel, IN and Sherry Haag of Paoli, IN. and her grandchildren Travis, Meredith, Courtney, Daniel,
Luke and Sarah, as well as great-grandchildren Madelyn, Skyler and Griffin. She was preceded in death by her son, Gary Haag, brother Dr. Edgar K. DeJean and sister Margaret Ann Schroedle.
Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Friday, December 27 at Salem Presbyterian Church, followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m. at the church. Interment and Committal Service will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery in Salem, IN.

Phyllis A. Padgett, 76, of Paoli, passed away at her home on December 17, 2024. She
was born December 13, 1948, in Paoli, IN to James and Wilma Buchanan Condra, both
of whom preceded her in death.
She married Gregg Padgett on April 25, 1998, and he survives.
Phyllis was a member of the Paoli Church of Christ.
She retired from General Motors in Indianapolis. Indiana.

Judith Sue Coulter Rutherford, 85 passed on December 23, 2024, in Bedford, IN. She was born in Paoli, IN to William Lester and Mary Ruth Collier Coulter on December 19, 1939.
Judy married Shelby Rutherford on April 25, 1959, in Paoli. She was a graduate of Paoli High School class of 1957.
Judy dearly loved her family and lived for their visits and phone calls. She also had several dear life-long friends that meant so much to her. Her family, friends and neighbors provided her with inspiration and so many blessings during her life.
Judy’s heart was full of love and kindness, and she never met a stranger.
Judy is survived by her husband of 65 years Shelby Rutherford, sons Scott (Lynn) Rutherford and Reed (Lori) Rutherford. Grandchildren Krystyn (Jake) Rutherford Gunther, Frank Rutherford and Sierra Rutherford. Sister’s Linda Kibler Rutherford, Pat (Jerry) Coulter Runyon and brother Jack (Barb) Coulter. Great grandchildren Shelby Mae Gunther and Reagan Gunther.
She was preceded in death by her parents and grandson Korey S. Rutherford.
Services will be held at Dillman Scott Funeral Home in Paoli, IN on Sunday, December 29, 2024, with visitation from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm, and funeral following at 2:00 pm officiated by Pastor Gary Swick with internment to follow at Stampers Creek Cemetery.

Norman Eugene Souder, age 86 of Salem, passed away Friday, December 20, 2024 at The Villages at Historic Silvercrest in New Albany, Indiana.
Mr. Souder was born March 29, 1938 in Washington County, the son of Charles Elmo Sr. and Helen McKnight Souder.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was also a former Salem Exchange member, was a Boy Scout, in the March of Dimes, the Salvation Army, a board member of the Salem Fire Department and was in a Euchre group for years.
Mr. Souder was a retired banker of 42 years at PNC, formally Farmers Citizen bank. In 1963 he formed the Installment Credit Association where he was the Treasurer and in 1966 he became President of the Association. Mr. Souder was in the National Guard for 8 years.
Mr. Souder is survived by his wife of 66 years, Dixie Souder. He is also survived by his sons, Greg G. Souder (Charlotte) of Colorado Springs and Darin L. Souder (Yvonne) of New Albany, his brother Charles Elmo Jr. of Scottsburg, his sisters, Barbara Downs of Fishers Indiana, and Patricia Tucker of LaPort Indiana and 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.
Mr. Souder is preceded by his parents, his son Kevin D. Souder and two sisters Treasure Broady and Joyce Roney.
Services will be held on Monday, December 23 at 12:00P.M at Weathers Funeral Home. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 22 from 2:00-6:00P.M. and Monday from 10:00A.M. until the time of service.
Dustin K. Hubbard, age 31, of Salem, passed away Sunday, December 22 at University of Louisville Hospital.
Dustin was born August 9, 1993 the son of Vernon and Juanita Roberts Hubbard. He was a stay at home dad and had beaten T-All Leukemia and Lymphoma.
Dustin’s kids were his everything and he was a wonderful dad. He loved spending time with them and playing with them.
Dustin is survived by his wife: Quincy Cooper Hubbard. They were married December 31,2022.
He is also survived by a son: Clay Hubbard of Salem and two daughters: Dallas Tincher-Hubbard and Cora Rey Hubbard both of Salem, his mother: Juanita Hubbard of Depauw, his step-mother: Linda Hubbard of Greenfield, a brother: Nathan Hubbard (Molly) of Evansville, a sister: Jessica Marcum (Brandon) of Greenfield, grandparents: Janice and C.J. Roberts both of Depauw, and two nephews: Colby Marcum and Henry Hubbard.
He was preceded in death by his father: Vernon Hubbard and grandparents: Ray Hubbard and June Smith Hubbard.
