wo Vehicles Shot in Separate Incidents on Area Interstates Within 24 Hours

0

Detectives from the Indiana State Police are investigating two separate shootings on Indianapolis area interstates less than 24 hours apart. Fortunately there were no injures reported in either shooting.

The first incident occurred early Saturday morning, January 27th, on I-465 southbound near 56th Street on the city’s west side. According to investigators the driver of a blue Chevrolet stopped to check on two vehicles that had been involved in a crash on I-465. A short time later that driver contacted police to report shots being fired at their vehicle from the driver of one of the crashed cars.

It should be noted the victim of the shooting was not involved in the crash. The victim drove away from the crash scene and continued driving until being told by emergency dispatchers to exit at Harding Street and wait for police. Detectives are not clear what led to the shooting or if the driver of the blue Chevrolet was the intended target. The crash was not reported to police by either of the involved parties.

The second incident happened early this morning on I-69 northbound near the I-465 interchange, around 3:50 a.m. The driver of a black Chevrolet SUV called 911 to report their vehicle had been shot. According to investigating officers the incident began with a possible road rage situation that led to a minor crash, subsequently the occupant of a maroon Ford Escape fired shots at the black Chevrolet then fled the scene. The maroon Ford that fled from the scene and exited at 96th Street, should have damage to the front driver’ side. The driver was described as a white male possibly in his 30’s.

Both of these investigations are ongoing, anyone with information about either incident is asked to call the Indiana State Police at 317-899-8577.

Monroe County Man arrested on Possession of Child Pornography

0

Thursday of last week, John K. Richardson, 36 of Bloomington, was arrested on warrant at the Monroe County Jail following an investigation into the possession of child pornography images. Master Trooper Detective Kevin Getz, of the Internet Crimes Against Children Unit, met Richardson at the Monroe County Jail and served the warrant that was issued after the initial investigation.

Richardson was arrested for the following;

Possession of Child Pornography, a Level 6 Felony

This arrest followed the investigation and the execution of a search warrant at Richardson’s Bloomington residence on South Westwood Drive. Members of the Indiana State Police’s Internet Crimes Against Children Unit, Cyber Crimes Unit and Bloomington District’s Investigations Unit executed the search warrant in December 2018.

Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

K-9 Ryker Retiring After 11 Years of Service

0

What do dogs do when they retire?  Whatever they want!!  After serving over ten years as Master Trooper Fred Trammel’s partner/companion and the state of Indiana, K-9 Ryker is retiring.

Trammel and Rykr attended the Allen County K-9 academy from September, 2008 until they graduated on December 4, 2008.

Since that time, Rykr has been responsible for twenty nine (29) tracks with fifteen (15) apprehensions.

He had done 869 total drug searches, resulting in 223 drug related criminal arrests, and 77 non-drug related criminal arrests (total of 300 criminal arrests).

Rykr and Trammel have assisted other agencies (city, county, FBI, DEA and ATF) 394 times in various capacities, Rykr’s total narcotic seizures were 1.3 pounds of Methamphetamine, 712 pounds of Marijuana, 8.5 pounds of Cocaine, ½ pound of Crack Cocaine, 13 pounds of Heroin, 40 pounds of Khat, and over $700,000 in U.S. currency.

Rykr was recognized nationally and given an award from the National Interdiction Conference for the largest Khat seizure in a vehicle (40 pounds) in 2013.

He was also responsible for seizing a ½ pound of Methamphetamine on a traffic stop that was key in the arrest of over twenty (20) individuals in a federal drug trafficking case involving three states.

Rykr has performed dozens of demonstrations for schools and other organizations and particularly loves interacting with children. Master Trooper Trammel stated, “Rykr would stay all day if allowed and just let the kids pet him.”

Rykr only had one criminal apprehension with a bite in his career, but according to Trammel his favorite bite was to ISP K-9 handler Trooper Chris Eagles’ hand during training.

Master Trooper Trammels stated, “Dogs teach us a very important lessons in life: obedience, loyalty, and perseverance.  But the most important thing I’ve earned from Rykr is his unconditional love and friendship”.

Rykr is now enjoying his retirement at home with the Trammel family as you can see by the picture below!

Bloomington Man Arrested on Sexual Misconduct, Child Solicitation Charges

0

Late last week, Trooper Robert Whyte was contacted by administrators at a Greene County School in regards to a parent that wanted to report a possible sexual relationship between their 14 year old daughter and a 29 year old man.

The Indiana Department of Child Services was contacted and a Susie’s Place interview was immediately scheduled.

During the forensic interview the juvenile disclosed that she had recently been upset and depressed and sought council from a family friend, Anthony Epeards, 29 of Bloomington about her feelings. She alleged she would visit with Epeards and the conversations eventually turned to Epeards asking her about sex.

She told investigators there were two instances from Christmas 2018 to January 14, 2019 where the two allegedly had sexual intercourse. She then alleged that Epeards told her not to tell anybody about their relationship.

Trooper Whyte immediately went to the Greene County Prosecutor’s Office and requested multiple arrest warrants for Epeards. Troopers Crozier and Wagner went to an apartment complex in Bloomington where troopers were informed Mr. Epeards stayed.

Trooper Wagner located Mr. Epeards and arrested him without incident.

Trooper Whyte escorted Mr. Epeards to the Greene County Jail where he was he was incarcerated on two counts of Sexual Misconduct with a Minor (Level 4 Felony) and one count of Child Solicitation (Level 5 Felony).

Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

One-two punch of winter storms, canceled blood drives straining Red Cross blood supply

0

The American Red Cross is reissuing its emergency call
for blood and platelet donors to give now after multiple snow storms, frigid temperatures and the
government shutdown further reduced lifesaving donations.

In January, more than 4,600 Red Cross blood and platelet donations went uncollected as blood drives were forced to cancel due to severe winter weather blanketing parts of the U.S., and
additional cancellations are expected this week.

Weather travel advisories may cause even more donors to delay their planned donations. Donors in areas affected by winter weather are asked to make an appointment now to give once it is safe to travel.

The federal government shutdown also affected donations as more than 4 percent of Red Cross blood collections come from drives sponsored by military and local, state and federal
government agencies.

About 30 blood drives hosted by federal offices were canceled across the country due to the shutdown, leaving more than 900 donations uncollected.

“Disruptions to blood and platelet donations jeopardize the availability of blood for patients who depend on transfusions for survival,” said Tiffany Taylor, external communications manager,
Red Cross River Valley Blood Services.

“We’re grateful for all those who have come out to give
since we issued our emergency call earlier this month and now urge others to come out and give to prevent delays in essential medical care.”

Right now, Red Cross blood donations are being distributed to hospitals faster than they are coming in, and there is less than a three-day supply of most blood types on hand.

The Red Cross strives to maintain a five-day supply of blood to meet the needs of patients and to be prepared for emergencies that require significant volumes of donated blood products.
All eligible donors, especially platelet donors and blood donors with type O blood, are urgently needed to help restock the shelves for hospital patients.

Donation appointments can be easily scheduled by using the free Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org or calling 1-800-
RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
