Man Killed during Confrontation on East Side of New Albany

0
Floyd:  A New Albany man was shot and killed during a Saturday evening dispute in New Albany.

Around 5:00 PM Saturday, 68-year-old Kevin Campbell was inside his residence at 1005 Slate Run Road, New Albany.

While inside, Campbell heard a knock on his bedroom window and went to the door of his home after retrieving a small caliber rifle.

Upon opening the door, Campbell observed 41-year-old Christopher Proctor standing outside, holding a sword.

Detectives believe Proctor approached the doorway towards Campbell with sword in hand, at which point Campbell fired a single shot.

The gunshot struck Proctor in the chest.

He was later pronounced dead at the scene by the Floyd County Coroners Office.

After a near two-hour delay, Campbell phoned the New Albany Police Department to report a deceased male in his yard.

As officers arrived at the residence, Campbell informed officers that he had shot Proctor.  Campbell was detained and transported by detectives to the Sellersburg Post for interviews.

At this time, Campbell has been arrested and charged with Obstruction of Justice, a Level 6 Felony.

He has been transported to and lodged in the Floyd County Jail.

This case remains under investigation by detectives and crime scene investigators.

Scottsburg Man Arrested After Wednesday Evening Pursuit

0
The pursuit of a motorcycle in Scottsburg ended with the arrest of a Scottsburg resident.

Around 9:20 PM, Sergeant Tracy Spencer was patrolling State Road 56 near US Highway 31 when he observed a motorcycle traveling west on SR56 doing a wheelie.

Arrested and Charged was Christian J. Lindebald, 29, Scottsburg, for Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle, Level 6 Felony
and Reckless Driving, Class C Misdemeanor

After the motorcycle’s front wheel was back on the ground and had driven by Sergeant Spencer, he turned around behind the vehicle and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the motorcycle.

The motorcycle accelerated by another motorist before disregarding a red traffic light.

The motorcycle rider continued to flee from law enforcement, disregarding multiple stop signs at intersections in Scottsburg as well as driving off road through grass.

During the pursuit, the motorcycle had traveled head on at a Scott County deputy before turning.

At US 31 near Fairground Road, the motorcycle again left the roadway, driving between homes in the subdivision.  The motorcycle was abandoned in the yard of a home on Jarin Court, where the rider fled on foot.

While speaking with residents in the area, Sergeant Spencer learned that the rider lived at the home in which the motorcycle had been abandoned.  29-year-old Christian Lindebald voluntarily came out of his home and was placed into custody without incident.

Lindebald was transported to the Scott County Jail where he was processed and lodged.
