Lake John Hay Project Approved; To Increase Capacity by 300 Million Gallons

0

After eight years of effort to gain state and federal approval, the project that will raise the height of the dam at John Hay Lake has been approved.

The project involves the construction of a 57-inch structural concrete wall that will be poured onto the existing earthen dam, according to Paul Eckert of Temple & Temple.

The project will increase the capacity of the lake by more than 300 million gallons of water.

Work is expected to begin by the end of the year and will take up to a year to complete. All work is dependent upon the weather.

The East Washington Rural Water Corporation will pay for the cost of the project.

No rate increase is anticipated at this time to cover the project’s cost.

I-65 Ramp Closures  At Memphis Road

0

The Indiana Department of Transportation plans to close Interstate 65’s northbound off-ramp and southbound on-ramp at Memphis Road for pavement reconstruction as part of the state’s $67 million added travel lanes project between Exit 9 at Sellersburg and Exit 16 at Memphis Road.

Closures are slated to occur—weather permitting—from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. this Friday and Saturday (SEPT 28 & 29).  The following weekend (OCT 5 & 6), INDOT plans to close I-65’s northbound on-ramp and southbound off-ramp for reconstruction.

During these closures, contractor E & B Paving will mill and resurface the asphalt ramps, place pavement lines and reflective markers, and add stone along shoulder areas.  The ramp’s existing concrete base will be repaired where needed.

Indiana has rebuilt I-65 in Clark County from a pavement break one mile north of S.R. 60 to a terminus 2.8 miles south of S.R. 160.  Travel lanes have been added in the median area to create a 6-lane highway.  Bridge superstructures at Memphis Road, Perry Crossing, Muddy Fork and Old S.R. 311 were widened and rebuilt.

Road Closure Scheduled for SR 145 near French Lick

0

The Indiana Department of Transportation announces a road closure on State Road 145 for a structure replacement project.

Beginning on or around Monday, Oct. 1, contractors will close S.R. 145 about 1 mile south of the intersection of S.R. 56. Workers will be excavating and then replacing a drainage structure.

The work is expected to last until early November, depending upon weather conditions.

During this operation, the road will be closed around the clock. Local traffic will have access up to the point of closure.

All through traffic should use the official detour using S.R 56, S.R. 545 and S.R.164.
