Legal Secretary Arrested on Forgery, Fraud and Theft Charges

A 36 year old Shelbyville woman has been arrested by the Indiana State Police stemming from a forgery, fraud and theft investigation. 

The investigation began August 15th, 2018 when a victim contacted the Indiana State Police accusing Heather Brant, a legal secretary at Lishner Law, of producing fraudulent court documents.

During the course of the investigation detectives determined Brant allegedly created false court documents and forged signatures of judges, court clerks and prosecutors.

She is also accused of theft from the law firm where she was employed.

The Shelby County Prosecutor’s Office issued an arrest warrant for Brant and she subsequently turned herself into detectives September 25th. She now faces the following charges:

  • 8 counts of Forgery, a level 6 Felony
  • 2 counts of Obstruction of Justice, a Level 6 Felony
  • 1 Count of Theft, a Level 5 Felony
  • 1 Count of Identity Deception, a Level 5 Felony
  • 1 Count of Fraud on a Financial Institution, a Level 5 Felony 

The findings of the investigation were turned over the the Shelby County Prosecutor’s Office. Since an arrest has been made an further inquiries into this case shall be forwarded to the prosecutor’s office. 

Madison Parents Arrested on Neglect Charges Following Death of Infant

This week, two Madison, Indiana residents were arrested on Neglect of a Dependent charges following an investigation into the death of an infant in Madison in July of this year.

The investigation by Indiana State Police Detectives began on July 15, 2018, when Eben Frisque, age 3 months, was found unresponsive and later pronounced deceased inside an apartment located at 121 Taft Drive, Madison, Indiana.

During the course of the investigation, detectives learned that Eben’s parents, Deven G. Frisque, age 32, and Tara L. Savage, 28, who lived in the apartment with Eben and a second child, had both consumed methamphetamine and other drugs recently while caring for the two children.  Both parents tested positive for methamphetamine and other drugs shortly after Eben’s death.

An autopsy was completed on Eben Frisque.  He tested positive for methamphetamine and amphetamine.  The autopsy report listed the cause of death as “Acute Methamphetamine Ingestion”.

At the conclusion of the investigation, the case was forwarded to the Jefferson County Prosecutor’s Office for review.

As a result, warrants were issued for Deven Frisque and Tara Savage on charges of Neglect of a Dependent, Level 1 Felony.

Savage was arrested on September 25th in Bedford, Kentucky by the Kentucky State Police.  Frisque was arrested yesterday at a residence in Jefferson County, Indiana.  Frisque was incarcerated pending his initial appearance in the Jefferson County Circuit Court.  Savage was incarcerated in Kentucky, pending extradition back to Jefferson County. 

Indiana State Police Detectives were assisted by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, Kentucky State Police, Indiana Department of Child Services, and the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.

Lake John Hay Project Approved; To Increase Capacity by 300 Million Gallons

After eight years of effort to gain state and federal approval, the project that will raise the height of the dam at John Hay Lake has been approved.

The project involves the construction of a 57-inch structural concrete wall that will be poured onto the existing earthen dam, according to Paul Eckert of Temple & Temple.

The project will increase the capacity of the lake by more than 300 million gallons of water.

Work is expected to begin by the end of the year and will take up to a year to complete. All work is dependent upon the weather.

The East Washington Rural Water Corporation will pay for the cost of the project.

No rate increase is anticipated at this time to cover the project’s cost.
