Annette Sue Barksdale Thompson, 69, of Paoli

Annette Sue Barksdale Thompson, 69, of Paoli, Indiana passed away Monday May 21, 2018 at Paoli Health and Living, following a brief illness. She was born on August 12, 1948 in Louisville, Kentucky to Wilbur Barksdale and Lena Cassidy Barksdale.
 
She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, John Michael Burton, one daughter, Meredith Kendall, one grandson, Carson Kendall and three brothers, David Barksdale, Gary Barksdale and Alan Barksdale.
 
She graduated from Paoli High School with the class of 1966.
 
She was a former CNA at Paoli Hospital, Sales Associate and a Title Clerk for a mortgage company in Indianapolis, Indiana.
 
Upon retirement she moved from Indianapolis to Bedford, Indiana.
 
Survivors include:
3-Sisters:
Mary Kay Barksdale and (Glennis Hess), West Baden, IN
Lenita Macpherson and (Bob), Vandalia, OH
Donna Baker and (Rolf), Orleans, IN
 
Also surviving Annette Sue Barksdale Thompson, are several nieces and nephews.
 
There will be no public visitation and cremation was chosen by the family. A private burial will take place at Paoli Community Cemetery at a later date.

Donald Glenn Martin, age 93

Donald Glenn Martin, age 93, passed away May 24, 2018 at Harrison Springs Medical
Campus, Corydon, Indiana. He was born March 2, 1925 to parents, Oswell and Elizabeth Heuser Martin in the Corydon Junction.

He was an Army Air Corp Veteran of World War II. After the war he worked various
jobs, including the post office at Corydon Junction, Wenning Meat Packing in Central
Barren and the Old Eureka and Contel Telephone Company in Corydon and Salem for
the last 30 years in his working career.

He was a member of the New Salisbury United Methodist Church, Past President and board member of the North Central/North Harrison School Board, Past President and Director of the Bethlehem Cemetery Corporation and a scorekeeper for the High School basketball team of New Salisbury, North Central and North Harrison for 30 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Louise Dome Martin, his daughter,
Carolyn Sue (Susie) Ransdell, sister, Betty and brothers, Walter, Bill and Frank.

He is survived by his sons, Dennis and Larry Martin of New Salisbury, IN
Granddaughter, Vicki McKinney (Brad), grandson, Chris Ransdell (Nicole) and great
grandson, Gauge Ransdell.

Visitation 2 – 8 PM Wednesday, May 30, 2018 and after 10 AM Thursday, May 31, 2018 at Swarens Funeral Home, 1405 Hwy 64 NW, Ramsey, IN. Funeral service will follow at 11 AM Thursday with burial in Bethlehem Cemetery, Crandall, IN.

Expression of sympathy can be made to the New Salisbury United Methodist Church or the Bethlehem Cemetery.

Peggy Rose Williams, 78, of Orleans

Peggy Rose Williams, 78, of Orleans, passed away at 11:33 AM on Sunday, May
20, 2018 at her residence.

She was born May, 7 1940 in Washington County, IN, the daughter of Harry and
Edith (Hixon) Clipp.

She married William “Bill” Williams on November 3, 1967 and he survives.

She was a member of the Mt. Horeb Baptist Church, serving as Sunday School
secretary and a member of the Red Hat Society. She worked at the Bank of
Orleans for many years.

She is survived by her husband of Orleans; five brothers, Jim, Ronnie, Joe, Bill and
Danny Clipp; three sisters, Louise Warren, Alice Fawver and Catherine Riley; many
nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Theresa Marie Williams;
three brothers, Bob, John and Roger; four sisters, Lula Mae Knapp, Mildred
Sudderth and Carolyn Ransom.

The funeral will be on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at the Mt. Horeb Baptist Church in
Orleans with Reverend Michael Williams, Reverend Lewis Williams and Reverend
Jeff Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Horeb Cemetery.

Friends are invited to visitation at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home on Wednesday
from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

Hoosier Uplands Safe Night 2018 will be held on June 9th at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds from 6-10 PM.

This year’s event will include long time favorites such as, airbrush face painting, t-shirt tie-dying, inflatable games and obstacle courses, fireworks, hot dogs and chips, ice cream, snow cones, popcorn, and much, much more.

As always, admission, food, treats, and all activities are completely free.

This year the event is adding a teen area. This area will have life size Jenga, teen inflatables, and corn-hole games. There will also be a booster bash and providing replacement booster seats to those in need!

50-Year-Old Pekin Man Killed in Crash Near South Boston

A fatal accident claimed the life of a 50-year-old Pekin man and sent another to the hospital by helicopter ambulance Tuesday afternoon.

At approximately 2:35 pm Tuesday, a white Lincoln Town Car, driven by Jeffery Turner, 50 years old, from Pekin, IN, was traveling westbound on Highway #160 near Canton/South Boston Road and for an unknown reason the vehicle left the north side of the roadway.

The driver over-corrected causing the vehicle to cross back over Highway #160 on the south side of the roadway ultimately crashing into a utility pole on the passenger’s side of the Lincoln Town Car.

Turner, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A passenger, Andrew Vires, 18 years old, from Pekin, IN, sustained serious injuries and was flown from the scene by air ambulance to University Hospital in Louisville, KY.

It is unknown if seat belts were in use.

Assisting Agencies included the Salem Fire Department, Washington County EMS, Washington County Sheriff’s Department, Pekin Town Marshall and the Washington County Coroner.

Indiana State Police Crash Reconstructionists were called to the scene for further investigation. 

23-Year-Old Woman Last Seen in Paoli; Missing Since May 22

A 23-year-old Paoli woman is missing and police are looking for her in the area.

Kaylea Sue Hickman was reported missing on May 22, according to the Paoli Police Department.

She has two small children, who are not with her.  Hickman was last seen with her ex-boyfriend following an incident at a home on Northeast Third Street in Paoli, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

Dept. John Deaton is working on the case and confirms she was last seen with a man known to be her ex-boyfriend after an incident at a home on Northeast 3rd St in Paoli, IN last week. 

Police visited an apartment complex in the area where her phone last indicated she could have been, and knocked on doors to ask for help.

Deaton says the police are actively working on this case, but do not have much to go on. He said they’ve been in touch nearly daily with members of her family.

In a Facebook post by the Paoli Police Department, Hickman is described as being 5’5’’ tall and weighing 115 pounds with brown eyes.

The last post on Facebook was at 12:22p on May 22. 

Deputies are not ruling out foul play in the case.

ISP Bloomington Detectives Investigating Attempted Murder Case

Early this morning, Morgan County Law Enforcement requested assistance from ISP Detectives from the Bloomington Post to investigate an attempted murder case that occurred just after 1 A.M. on Sichting Road east of Martinsville.

Detectives learned that Jacquelyn Downey, 51 of Indianapolis allegedly made entry into a residence on Sichting Road through a window, while in possession of a firearm. When the homeowner confronted Downey, a struggle ensued, resulting in the homeowner overtaking Downey and holding her until law enforcement arrived.

CHARGES –

1)      Attempted Murder – Level 2 Felony

2)      Intimidation – Level 5 Felony (2 Counts)

3)      Criminal Recklessness – Level 6 Felony

4)      Domestic Battery – Level 6 Felony

5)      Harassment – B Misdemeanor

Water Related Incident Causes Victim to be Airlifted

Indiana Conservation Officers are investigating a water related incident where the victim was airlifted to the hospital for further treatment.

At approximately 2:38 p.m. Monday afternoon, Officers were contacted about an individual that was removed from the water after being submerged for approximately 15 minutes.

Fernando Julian, 21, of Shelbyville was located submerged in the water after a brief search was conducted by patrons.

Fernando was removed from the water where CPR was conducted.

EMS arrived on scene and continued medical treatment.

Fernando was transported by University of Cincinnati Air Care to their hospital for further medical treatment.

Fernando was breathing and conscious at the time he was airlifted.

The investigation is still underway and further information will be provided when available.

Conservation Officers, Blooming Grove Fire Department, Brookville EMS, and Franklin County Deputies were on scene to assist.
