0

If you’ve ever considered keeping bees or were just intrigued with our little black and gold friends, this program is for you. An educational program on beekeeping will be presented on Tuesday, at 6 p.m. at Wilson Park Shelter House.

Local beekeepers will share their experiences and information on bees and be happy to answer questions.

The program is the tenth program in the Bedford Park Outdoor Series.

Curtis McBride and other local beekeepers will be on hand to explain what is entailed in this practice that dates back 9,000 years to North Africa. The art and science of beekeeping has come a long way since then, and you can learn from experienced beekeepers the joys and challenges of keeping bees.

This free program at the historic Wilson Park Shelter House. The indoor shelter house is pleasant in any weather. Please RSVP for the program at (812) 275-5692 so we have enough handouts and chairs ready.

Field Set For 102nd Indy 500; Carpenter Gets Pole

Team Penske was looking for a sweep of the front row of the Indianapolis 500 for the second time in history before Indy’s Hometown Racer Ed Carpenter locked them out.

WSLM 97.9 FM and WSLM 1220 AM broadcast the qualifications Saturday and Sunday and will bring you race activities this week including the races on Thursday and Sunday.

Carpenter, an Indianapolis native, won the Indy 500 Pole for the third time in his career with a four-lap average of 229.618 miles per hour in Sunday’s “Fast Nine” session of Pole Day.

At the time of Carpenter’s run in his No. 20 Chevrolet, Simon Pagenaud was on the Pole with a four-lap average of 228.761 mph in the No. 22 Chevrolet.

Pagenaud’s teammate, Will Power, was in the middle of row one with a four-lap average of 228.607 mph and Josef Newgarden was on the outside of row one with four laps at 228.405 mph.

Carpenter’s first lap was announced at 230.088 miles per hour.

Carpenter was able to keep his foot in it and backed up that big speed with a second lap at 229.808 mph followed by the final two laps at 229.519 mph and 229.061 mph. That averaged to a speed of 229.618 mph over the 10-mile qualification run.

Carpenter was the next to last driver to make a qualification attempt so there was no way Team Penske could score the first team sweep of the front row since 1988 when Rick Mears, Danny Sullivan and Al Unser started three-abreast in that year’s Indy 500.

Autopsy Identifies Female Body as 31-Year-Old Pekin Woman

0

Police recovered the body of a 31-year-old Pekin woman from Blue River Saturday afternoon. Authorities believe she had been in the river for three days (since last Thursday) and did not show any signs of drowning.

An autopsy on Sunday morning identified the female as Christina E. Collins, 31, from East Noland Road in Pekin, IN.

The autopsy showed no signs of a struggle, drowning or trauma and a cause of death has not yet been determined.

Investigators believe Collins had been deceased and in the water since Thursday evening of May 17th.

Police say a toxicology report is pending and could take up to six weeks to be completed.

With the findings in the investigation so far, detectives do not believe foul play is involved.

It was determined the last person in possession of the vehicle located at the scene was Collins.

According to Indiana State Police Sgt. Jerry Goodin, Saturday afternoon shortly after 4:00 pm, two men were riding four wheelers near Blue River in Washington County when they noticed a deceased female in the Blue River.

Goodin said they also noticed a vehicle close to where the body was located parked on the bank of the river.

Washington County Sheriff’s Department Deputies responded to the area and set up a crime scene.

Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators from the Indiana State Police Post at Sellersburg were then requested to assist in the investigation.

The location was approximately one half of a mile west of South Bowers Knob Road, near Pekin.

The investigation is continuing.
