Della Ann Prater, age 77, of Scottsburg

Della Ann Prater, age 77, of Scottsburg, passed away Sunday, October 13, 2024 at Baptist Health Floyd in New Albany. 

Mrs. Prater was born October 6, 1947 in Campton, Kentucky the daughter of Mort and Polly King. She retired after 33 years from Salem Community Schools as a Custodian. She was a member of Mt. Eden Christian Church. 

She is survived by her husband: James H. Prater they were married February 19, 1963. Della is also survived by her children: Connie Sue Voyles of Salem, Loretta Lynn Prater of Salem, Herb Prater (Amanda) of Scottsburg, Tony Prater (Melissa) of Salem, Jerry Prater (Camilla) of Salem, 8 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. 

She is preceded in death by 3 brothers, 4 sisters, and her parents. 

Funeral services will be held at 1PM Thursday at Weathers Funeral Home, Salem, Indiana. Burial will follow in New Hope Cemetery in Scottsburg, Indiana. Visitation will be held Thursday from 10AM-until time of service. 

Charles Kermit Sturdevant, age, 71 of Salem

Charles Kermit Sturdevant, age, 71 of Salem, Indiana passed away Saturday, October 12, 2024, at 01:57 am, in Norton Hospital, Louisville, Kentucky. Charles was born on December 3, 1952, in Salem, Indiana, he was the son of the late Ervin L. Sturdevant and Violet C. (Lee) Sturdevant.

Charles was a former employee of the old Link Handle Company in Salem, Indiana. He was a member of Walnut Grove Christian Church and a life resident of Washington County. He was also a member of the NRA and the Campbellsburg Fish and Game Club.

Survivors include: POA; Troy Merry; Brother: Paul Sturdevant of Hayden, Indiana; Brother: Lafe Sturdevant of Austin, Indiana; Brother: Don Sturdevant of Salem, Indiana; Sister: Bonnie Samples of Bedford, Kentucky.

He was preceded in death by Brother, Roger Sturdevant and Sister, Erma Hawes.

Cremation was chosen with services at a later date with Troy Merry officiating. Arrangements by Dawalt Funeral Home.

Betty L Bradley, 80, of Salem

Betty L Bradley, 80, of Salem passed away Monday, October 7 at Ascension St. Vincent Salem Hospital. 

Betty was born October 18, 1943 to Naomi Ramsey Neal and James Harold Neal. She obtained an Associates Degree in Medical Assisting from Ivy Tech Community College. She was employed by Child Craft Industries from 1972 to 2004 as Dispatcher for Production Control, Sterling Healthcare from 2007 to 2010 as a Certified Biller and Coder and Jay C Food Stores from 2015 to 2017 as a Deli Clerk and Grocery. 

Betty lived in Orleans and Salem, Indiana and loved to travel, country music, art, reading, and bowling until her knee gave out. She said “Do not grieve for me, I have had a full exciting life, hard at times, but I would not change a thing”. She enjoyed dancing to “Trashy Women” by Confederate Railroad on stage with her friends and listened to “Hard Times For An Honest Man” by James House every time she could. She finally got to see Maine and Acadia National Park.

She is survived by three sons: Timothy Neal Bradley, James Charles Bradley, and Danny Lee Bradley, five granddaughters: Megan Bradley Hunter (Ryan), Jessica Bradley Snyder (Brandon), Linzie Bradley Rose (Joshua), Whitney Bradley and Cyrena Jones, nine great-grandchildren: Jeffrey and Jayla Hunter Serra, Reya, and Selina Snyder, Xayden Bradley, Cole Bush, Diesel Rose, and Liam Knight and great great grandchild: Colton Bush. 

She was preceded in death by her parents: James and Naomi Neal, two brothers: William Lee and James Everett, a nephew: Jeffrey Owens and daughter-in-law: Tammy Adamson Bradley. 

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 16 at 6PM at Weathers Funeral Home. Cremation will follow. Visitation will be Wednesday from 2-6PM at the funeral home. 

Larry Roy Sears, age 82, of Palmyra

Mr. Larry Roy Sears, age 82, of Palmyra, passed away Saturday, October 12 at his home. 

Mr. Sears was born February 19, 1942, in Washington County, Indiana, the son of Gilbert Raymond Sears and Mildred Lucille Voyles Sears. He was a graduate of Pekin High School, Class of 1960. He retired from Duke Energy as a mechanical supervisor in June of 1996. Larry was a member of South Liberty Church of Christ. 

Larry is survived by his wife: Joyce Jones Sears. They were married April 12, 1963. He is also survived by a son: Bradley Sears (Veda) of Palmyra, two daughters: Christina Denny (John) of Pekin, and Penny Alexander of Palmyra, a brother: Garry Lee Sears (Peggy)of Pekin, a sister: Patricia Ann Roberts (Hairl) of Pekin, ten grandchildren: Hannah, Heather, Lindsey, Lacey, John, Cody, Kyle, Casey, Brittni and Dylan and twenty great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son-in-law: Rick Alexander, and his parents: Gilbert Raymond and Mildred Lucille Sears. 

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 19 at 1:00PM at Weathers Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9:30AM-time of service.

Connie Lea Hubacher, age 68, of New Albany

Connie Lea Hubacher, age 68, of New Albany, passed away Friday, October 11 at Baptist Health Floyd, surrounded by her family. 

Connie was born August 27, 1956, in Scottsburg, Indiana the daughter of Wayne and Jolonda Ashabraner Voyles.

She was a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church and American Legion in New Albany. She graduated from West Washington High School, Class of 1974.

Connie served in the Air Force and as a Chief Warrant Officer 3 in the Navy. She spent her entire life serving others as an R.N. both in the military and as a civilian.

She practiced her nursing degree as a labor and delivery and home care nurse, before retiring from Clark Memorial Hospital.

Her sense of humor was a positive light to all that was around her.

She was loving and kind to everyone she met and especially proud of her three children who were her whole world. 

Connie is survived by her children: Steven Hubacher (Kim) of Charlestown, Jennifer Devitt (Dustin) of Unionville, Indiana and Heather Stainback (Andy) of Colgate, Wisconisn, her father and step-mother: Wayne and Shirley Voyles of Salem, two brothers: Mike Voyles of Cynthiana, Kentucky and Danny Voyles of Salem, a sister: Susan Voyles Nesmith (Daniel) of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, and 8 grandchildren: Adalyn, Kasey Rae, Kellan, Kylie Jo, Kolten, Khloe Grace, Derrick and Dillon, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her mother: Jolonda Voyles. 

Funeral services will be held Friday at 2:00PM at Weathers Funeral Home, with Rev. Dr Darrell James officiating.

Burial will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 10:00AM-time of service at the funeral home. 

Tim R. Davidson 64 of Salem

Tim R. Davidson 64 of Salem passed away August 15th at his home.  

Timmy was born on January 27th 1960 in Salem Indiana. He was a 1978 graduate of Salem High School. He worked many jobs throughout his life.
 
He was employed by Smiths Cabinet, operated his own lawn service, delivered for the Courier Journal and most recently drove members of the Amish community to their jobs sites. 
 
Timmy is survived by one son, Benjamin of Salem and siblings, Glenda Garrison, Coy (Phyllis) Davidson, Velita (Brent) Brown. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. 
 
Timmy was preceded in death by his parents Nannie (Melton) and Ossie Davidson. His brothers Ova, Leroy, Ralph, Woodrow, Troy and Tommy Davidson. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Barbara Sue Coliapolis.
 
Timmy was cremated and there will be a celebration of life at a later date.

Donald Franklin “Donnie” Jr, age 61 of Pekin, passed away at his home on Saturday, October 5, 2024.  Born on February 14, 1963, he was the son of the late Donald Baker Sr and Katherine (Lawrence) Allen.

Donnie served his country in the United States Coast Guard.

Donnie is survived by his daughter, Racheal Baker (Levi Lokey); 2 brothers: Steven Baker and Douglas Baker; 2 sisters: Sharon Mitchell and Hassy Armstrong; 3 grandchildren: Darren Ledford, Landon Ledford, and Lauren Ledford; and a step granddaugher, Tori Lokey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Nathan Baker; and 1 sister, Donna Breeding.
