Eastern High School has announced its exit at the end of this year year from the Mid Southern Conference and Madison will officially taken its place on the 9-team roster.

The transition will take place at the end of the current sports season and the new alignment will begin with the 2026-27 season, which would allow time for scheduling adjustments and smooth integration.

It is not known if Eastern will join another conference or remain independent.

Eastern High School has hired Jordan Williams as it’s 5th Head Football Coach since beginning the program in 2007.

Williams is a graduate of Charlestown High School having played and coached under longtime coach Jason Hawkins.

The MSC, which started in 1958 with seven schools, will now include the Austin Eagles, Brownstown Braves, Charlestown Pirates, Corydon Panthers, Salem Lions, Scottsburg Warriors, Madison Cubs, North Harrison Cougars and the Silver Creek Dragons.

Eastern started its football program in 2007 and since joining the MSC, have went 36-147 over the past 17 years and won seven sectional first-round games.

The MSC remains committed to fostering excellence in academics and athletics while maintaining the high level of competition that defines the conference.

INDOT Plans Projects Around Southern Indiana

0

Several road projects will be going on in the WSLM Listening Area including:

Closure planned on U.S. 421 in Jefferson County

Indiana Department of Transportation contractor 5 Star Company, Inc. plans to close U.S. 421 on or after Monday, March 24, to complete a small structure replacement project in Jefferson County.

The closure will take place approximately three miles north of the U.S. 421 and State Road 250 intersection and is expected to be complete in late April, weather permitting. Signage will be placed in the area prior to the start of construction. During the closure, motorists should use the official detour which follows S.R. 7 to U.S. 50.

This project is part of a $1.5 million contract awarded to 5 Star in December 2024. INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, use extra caution, and avoid distractions when traveling in and near work zones. All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.

Closure planned on South Wyandotte Cave Road in Crawford County

Indiana Department of Transportation contractor E&B Paving, Inc. plans to close South Wyandotte Cave Road over I-64 on or after Monday, March 10, to complete two bridge replacement projects in Crawford County.

The closure will take place just south of East Shafer Ridge Road over eastbound and westbound I-64 and is expected to be complete in early December, weather permitting. Shoulder closures will periodically be used on eastbound and westbound I-64 while bridge work is in progress.

Signage will be placed in the area prior to the start of construction. During the closure, motorists should use the official detour which uses S.R. 66 and S.R. 62.

This work is part of a $5.2 million contract awarded to E&B in December 2024. INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, use extra caution, and avoid distractions when traveling in and near work zones. All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.

Closure planned on State Road 56 in Scott County

Indiana Department of Transportation contractor E&B Paving, Inc. plans to close State Road 56 over Stucker Fork on or after Monday, March 10, to complete a bridge deck overlay project in Scott County.

The closure will take place just east of Scottsburg between State Road 203 and State Road 3 and is expected to be complete in late April, weather permitting. Signage will be placed in the area prior to the start of construction. During the closure, motorists should use the official detour route which follows U.S. 31 to S.R. 356 to S.R. 3.

This project is part of a $1.8 million contract awarded to E&B in July 2024. INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, use extra caution, and avoid distractions when traveling in and near work zones. All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.

Work to resume on State Road 56 in Madison

Indiana Department of Transportation contractor Dave O’Mara Contractor, Inc. plans to resume work on State Road 56 (Clifty Drive) on or after Monday, March 3, to complete pedestrian facility work in Madison.

Pedestrian facility work will take place between Wilson Avenue and Michigan Road and is expected to be complete in early June, weather permitting. Eastbound and westbound S.R. 56 will be reduced to one lane while work is in progress.

Resurfacing work will take place on S.R. 56 following the completion of pedestrian facility work. Overall work is scheduled to be complete in October 2025, weather permitting. Additional information will be provided as work progresses.

This work is part of a $12.3 million contract awarded to Dave O’Mara in November 2023. INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, use extra caution, and avoid distractions when traveling near work zones. All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.

A Cyber tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) led to the arrest of an Otisco, Indiana man for possession of child pornography on Tuesday.

Detectives with the Indiana State Police – Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force in Sellersburg began an investigation in December of 2024 after receiving a cyber tip report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

The cyber tip report indicated that a specific account was possibly used to transmit child pornography images or video files.

On Tuesday, acting on information gathered in the initial investigation, detectives conducted a traffic stop on 26-year-old Trevor Lee Slaughter, of Otisco, Indiana, while Slaughter was driving in downtown Clarksville.

A search warrant obtained in reference to the investigation was served at the time of the traffic stop. At the conclusion of the stop and ensuing investigation, detectives with the ISP ICAC task force arrested Trevor Slaughter on thirty preliminary charges of possession of child pornography. Each of the initial charges is a level 5 Felony. Trevor Slaughter was transported to the Clark County Jail without further incident.

Over $2 Million In New road funding heads to local communities

0

Indiana’s Community Crossings Matching Grant Program awarded local communities over $2.2 million in state funding for local road and bridge projects in Washington County.

The Community Crossings Matching Grant Program provides local communities funding for road reconstruction, bridge preservation, intersection improvements and other projects.

This year, 245 Indiana communities will receive more than $200 million in state matching grants.

Locally, four groups received funding:

  • Campbellsburg, $440,777;
  • Salem, $194,595;
  • Saltillo, $146,403; and
  • Washington County, $1.5 million.

Salem Mayor Justin Green said the CCMG monies would be used to rehab Kimball Boulevard in Salem.

“The Community Crossings Matching Grant Program is a tremendous partnership between state and local government,” said State Rep. Karen Engleman (R-Georgetown). “This funding helps local communities move forward faster on needed upgrades to ensure the safety of our infrastructure.

Indiana was recently ranked as the best state in the nation for overall road conditions by Consumer Affairs, noting our low rate of traffic fatalities and quality of roads.

“Not only do these grants help everyday Hoosiers, but our local and statewide businesses as well,” said State Rep. Jim Lucas (R-Seymour). “By having efficient roads, deliveries and shipments can make it on time and Indiana businesses can continue to thrive.”

State Rep. Chris May (R-Bedford) said to qualify for funding, smaller municipalities must provide a 25 percent match in local funds, while larger communities must provide a 50 percent match. The state requires 50 percent of available matching funds be awarded annually to communities within counties with a population of 50,000 or less. Since 2016, Community Crossings has awarded more than $2 billion to improve local roads and bridges.

“This funding will go a long way in maintaining the roads and bridges in our communities,” May said. “Upgrades to critical infrastructure are essential to keeping drivers safe and the local economy prospering.”
