James “Jay” Douglas, 75, of Corydon

James “Jay” Douglas, 75, of Corydon, died Tuesday, February 27, 2018, at Norton Brownsboro Hospital in Louisville. He was born January 15, 1943, in Warren County, Kentucky, to the late James Noel “Jim” Douglas and Mildred Welch Douglas.

He was a line maintenance machinist for Philip Morris in Louisville where he retired after 32 years, was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, was a member of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers local 681, was a life
member of the Harley Owners Group and the National Rifle Association, was a member of the American Motorcycle Association and the Kentuckiana Clarksville H.O.G. chapter, was a member, road captain and safety officer of the Lincoln Trails Harley Owners Group in Radcliff, Kentucky, was a charter member of the Georgetown Baptist Church, and was a member of the Corydon Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Saundra McCormack Douglas; his son, Eric Douglas; and his brother, Gary Douglas.

Survivors include his daughter, Tammy Alcorn (Tim) of Corydon; and his grandchildren, Amelia, Ethan and Thomas Alcorn.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2018, at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.

Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Corydon.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Harry Vanlaningham, age 88, of Salem

Harry Vanlaningham, age 88, of Salem, Indiana, passed away on February 27, 2018 at the Salem Crossing nursing home.

Born on December 6, 1929 in Hardinsburg, he was the son of the late Roy Ray Vanlaningham & Cora (Mills) Vanlaningham.

Harry was an Army Veteran, he was awarded the Bronze Service Star in the Korean Conflict.

He was a self-employed auto body repairman. He was a member of the Enon Baptist Church.

Survivors include his son, Roy L. Vanlaningham & wife Melissa; 2 daughters, Deborah S. Lewis, & Brenda L. Brown & husband Steven; 8 grandchildren & 9 great grandchildren.
Preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marilyn (Moore) Vanlaningham; son, Richard “Rick” Vanlaningham; daughter, Teresa L. Vanlaningham.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 AM Saturday at the Hughes-Taylor Funeral Home in Salem. Visitation will be from 4-8 PM Friday and Saturday from 9:00 AM until time of service at the funeral home.

Burial will be at Hardinsburg Cemetery with full military honors.

Bro Neil Kenyon will officiate.

Scott County Man Arrested For Child Battery

Yesterday evening, Detective Scott Stewart from the Indiana State Police Post at Sellersburg arrested Frank Ashby, 45, from Scottsburg, after the Department of Child Services reported a case of battery to a child from Scott County.

Detective Stewart spoke to Frank Ashby and after speaking to him he placed him under arrest for Battery to a Child under the Age of 14, Felony.

He was incarcerated at the Scott County Jail awaiting his first court appearance.

Salem Woman Arrested For Dealing: Had Two Pounds of Weed

Yesterday afternoon, a 19-year-old Salem woman was arrested with two pounds of Marijuana and charged with dealing.

The driver, Heather R. Good, 19, of Organ Springs Road in Salem, IN, was arrested and charged with Dealing in Marijuana, Possession of Marijuana and Maintaining a Common Nuisance.

She is incarcerated at the Floyd County Jail awaiting her first court appearance.

Indian State Trooper Brandon Farias made a traffic stop on Cherry Street in New Albany for a traffic infraction.

As trooper Farias was speaking to the driver he could smell an odor of burnt Marijuana coming from the vehicle.

A subsequent search of the vehicle yielded approximately two pounds of Marijuana.

Ruth Caroline Wolter Frische, 88, of Seymour

Mrs. Ruth Caroline Wolter Frische, 88, of Seymour, passed away at her home on Friday, February 23, 2018. Mrs. Frische was born in Jackson County on July 25, 1929 to the late Edward F. and Maude (Cole) Wolter.

Family and friends may call at Voss & Sons Funeral Service on Friday, March 2 from 4-7 pm and at Peace Lutheran Church on Saturday from 9 am until time of service.

Funeral services will be conducted by Voss & Sons Funeral Service at Peace Lutheran Church (330 S. Walnut St., Seymour) on Saturday, March 3 at 10 am with Rev. Scott Roberts officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery.

On August 18, 1973, she married Ivan E. Frische; he preceded her in death on October 26, 2003. Ruth was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. She retired from teaching art in the Bartholomew County School Corporation in 1991. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Jackson County Retired Teachers Association and was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and the Clothing Center.

She is survived by nephews, Herb Wolter, James Wolter, Ed Christiansen, Willard Frische, Jr., and Joseph M. Wolter;  nieces, Brenda Wesolowski, Linda Rowe, Peggy Mahoney, Mary McNeely, Robin Brown Schmidt, Julie Wolter Knott, Lisa Staley Todd, and Linda Frishe-Mouri; as well as several great nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, William “Bill” Wolter, Harold Wolter, Ray Wolter and Glen Wolter; sisters, Marian Staley, Catherine Christiansen and Jeannette Brown; nephews, John Christiansen, Michael G. Brown and Edward M. Wolter; and niece, Nancy Brown Baughman.

Memorials may be written to Peace Lutheran Church or Ivan E. Frische Scholarship Fund, in care of Voss & Sons Funeral Service.

Harlem Wizards Fundraiser For Band April 5 at Orleans High School

The Harlem Wizards are coming to Orleans Jr Sr High School, Thursday, April 5 at 7:00 pm.

The evening promises to be a fun filled event that is great for kids and adults and will guarantee to put a smile on your face!

This event is hosted by The Orleans Band Boosters. They have brought The Wizards into town to help benefit the band and guard programs at Orleans Jr Sr High School.

The Harlem Wizards have a unique mission: create awe-inspiring events throughout the country.

At a Wizards game, fans will witness amazing basketball talent combined with hilarious comedy. It’s two hours of family time where parents, grandparents, and kids can all laugh together.

When you’ re in the stands, you’ re more than a spectator; you’ re part of the show with loads of audience participation.

Throughout the game, fans will experience a magical display of tricks, coordinated ball handling, fancy passing and aerodynamic athleticism combined with high-energy comedy and audience interaction.
