AgriTalk Welcomes New Host, Chip Flory

0

Farm Journal Media announced today that agriculture’s most-listened-to radio talk-program, AgriTalk, heard on WSLM 97.9 FM weekdays from 11:05 to Noon, will welcome a new host.

Effective Jan. 2, 2018, Chip Flory will take the seat as host of one of agriculture’s most iconic radio programs.

Flory will continue as host of the Market Rally radio program, also heard on WSLM from 3:05p – 4p, a strategic shift to a single host that will closely align these two nationally syndicated talk shows.

WSLM is the Louisville and South Central Indiana affiliate for the programs, reaching over 500,000 farmers daily.

Flory will be only the third host in AgriTalk’s long history.

A graduate of Iowa State University, he spent three years reporting from the floors of the Chicago Board of Trade and the Chicago Mercantile Exchange. With ProFarmer since 1991, Flory has long been an editorial leader for Farm Journal’s newsletter division, most recently serving as Editorial Director.

Flory also serves as the Farm Journal Economist, has led the ProFarmer Crop Tour and helped launch Market Rally in 2013.

“We are pleased to welcome Chip as the next host of AgriTalk,” said Brian Conrady, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Farm Journal Broadcast. “We know he is committed to carrying on the tradition and commitment to excellence established by Mike Adams, and we believe Chip’s expansive industry knowledge and entertaining personality will serve our audience well for years to come.”

Mike Adams has been the host of AgriTalk since 2001. He is a former president of the National Association of Farm Broadcasters, and a recipient of the prestigious Farm Broadcaster of the Year award.

A special farewell edition of AgriTalk looking back at his 16 years of hosting the program aired this afternoon.

“Over my long career in radio and ag programming, both AgriTalk and Mike Adams have been institutions in this industry,” said Mark DePrez, Vice President and General Manager, Farm Journal Radio. “We’re thankful for the indelible mark that Mike will be leaving—and at the same time, look forward to Chip’s new position in the chair.”

92 Hoosiers Honored for Academic Excellence

0

The Big Ten Conference recognized a total of 1,253 students competing in fall sports who have been named to the Academic All-Conference team Wednesday.

The list of honorees features 111 field hockey students, 435 football students, 108 men’s and 198 women’s cross-country runners, 106 men’s and 206 women’s soccer students and 89 volleyball students.

Indiana had a total of 92 honorees on the list for the fall of 2017.

“To have 92 students receive fall Academic All-Big Ten honors speaks volumes about the quality of our students, coaches, and academic support staff,” said IU Vice President and Director of Athletics Fred Glass. “Reaching our highest academic potential is one of our top priorities, and we could not be prouder of this achievement by our students who participate in intercollegiate athletics.”

To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, students must be on a varsity team, as verified by being on the official squad list as of November 1 for fall sports, who have been enrolled fulltime at the institution for a minimum of 12 months and carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.

Big Ten Faculty Representatives established the Distinguished Scholar Award in 2008 to supplement the Academic All-Big Ten program. Similar to the Academic All-Big Ten honor, Distinguished Scholar Award recipients must be letterwinners in at least their second academic year at their institution. However, the Distinguished Scholar Award encompasses only students with a minimum GPA of 3.7 or higher for the previous academic year, excluding summer school. The Academic All-Big Ten threshold is a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher for a student’s academic career.

Three Scott County Residents Busted for Heroin and Meth

Yesterday morning at approximately 9:50 am, Trooper Nathan Abbott made a traffic stop on a maroon Chevrolet Monte Carlo south of the Twenty-Three Mile Marker on Interstate #65 in Clark County.

After speaking to the driver, Jason Fink and two passengers, Kenneth Winchester, (front seat) and Kayla Marling, (back seat), trooper Abbott conducted a search of the vehicle. During the search he located a purple Crown Royal whiskey bag.

Inside of the Crown Royal bag was a black digital scale, alleged Heroin and Methamphetamine residue, numerous plastic bags and plastic straws.

During the traffic stop, Kayla Marling was also found to be in possession of syringes.

All three of the occupants of the vehicle were arrested and were incarcerated at the Clark County Jail.

Arrested and Charges:

Jason L. Fink, 43, from English Avenue in Austin, was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Heroin, Possession of Paraphernalia and Maintaining a Common Nuisance.

Kayla R. Marling, 24, from English Avenue in Austin, was charged with Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Heroin, Possession of a Syringe, Prior Possession of a Syringe, Visiting a Common Nuisance and Obstruction of Justice.

Runaway Found Riding on Exterior of Commercial Motor Vehicle

0

Today, at approximately 9:00 am, a seventeen year old Ohio boy was found riding on the exterior catwalk of a commercial motor vehicle on I-65 northbound near Seymour in Jackson County.

The boy, who had been reported as a runaway from Shelby, Ohio, was arrested and transported to Jackson County Juvenile Detention in Brownstown, Indiana.

The incident began when Motor Carrier Inspector Michael Buckley was operating the I-65 scalehouse on I-65, just north of Seymour.  MCI Buckley observed the seventeen year old boy riding on the catwalk of the semi between the cab and the trailer.  MCI Buckley got the driver to stop at the weigh station where he then had troopers to respond to assist.

Initially, the juvenile attempted to hide from the troopers.  He was then taken into custody by Trooper Seth Davidson.  Trp. Davidson was able to identify the seventeen year old juvenile who had previously been reported as a runaway from Shelby, Ohio.  Further investigation determined that the boy may have climbed aboard the commercial motor vehicle somewhere in Kentucky prior to daylight.

The boy was transported to the Jackson County Juvenile Detention Center in Brownstown, Indiana pending his transfer back to Ohio.

The driver of the vehicle was unaware of the boy riding on his truck and will not face any charges.
