2,000 Kids to Play and Cheer at Lucas Oil Stadium in Red Zone Games Debut

0

It’s billed as the “Greatest Day Ever.” And why wouldn’t it be, as thousands of kids step onto the artificial turf at Lucas Oil Stadium to the cheers of 6,000 friends and family?

Looking upward into the 67,000 seats, these young football and cheer teams can
imagine what it feels like to wear an Indianapolis Colts uniform on game day.

If they close their eyes, maybe they will hear the crowd’s thunderous applause.
These are the Red Zone Games, where 7- to 12-year- olds play football and perform
cheer routines on the Colts’ perfectly manicured turf in an experience unique by
anyone’s standards.

Red Zone Games is also the name of the Austin, Texas-based company which
organizes these youth football events at NFL stadiums across the country.

They are
coming to Lucas Oil Stadium for its Indianapolis debut Nov. 5, 2017.

Red Zone Games began in 2012 at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas – home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys. Since then, a thousand teams – comprised of 9,976 players and cheerleaders – have experienced the NFL sensation.

When football is tossed around in Indianapolis, or any NFL town, talk is focused on a
player’s size and weight and talent. But that’s not the case here. This event is not ultra
competitive, but instead focuses on community enthusiasm, family fun and the kids’
overall enjoyment.

“This event is not about finding out who’s the best 12-year- old and under team,”says
Tim Bishop, Director of Red Zone Games. “If your number-one priority is proving howgood your team is, then this is not for you. These games are about having an amazing
experience while playing fun, safe football. It’s where every player gets to play at Lucas
Oil Stadium.”

Bishop frequently fields one particular concern: “We’re from a small town, where none of the kids on my team have played organized football. I don’t really have any great
athletes on my team. Won’t we just lose big time?”

Though most of the teams who participate at the event are recreational teams
from small towns with little football experience, according to Bishop, the brackets
are adjusted to allow teams from smaller areas to play teams from larger areas and still
give smaller area teams an equal chance at winning.

“Most leagues have an age or weight limit,” says Bishop. “This is because they can
control most of the other variables and reside in a district of similar community size.
Although this works for league games (even though you still get 42-0 games), this does
not work for Red Zone Games where so many other factors come into play.”

So how are final matchups determined? Without giving away his secrets, Bishop says
their system has created thousands of fun, safe football games since 2012 where teams
from the smallest 1A or 2A towns have won just as many games as teams from larger
areas. Matchups are “handpicked.”

“Win or lose, playing and cheering in a Red Zone Games event is extraordinary as
most people only dream about playing in an NFL stadium,” says Bishop, who is
planning for up to 96 teams from Indiana and the surrounding states to compete this
November in Indy.

If the accolades from the coaches in Texas are any indication, coaches here are in for a
treat:
• “My kids may not remember any other game this season, but they will remember
playing in an NFL stadium for the rest of their lives,” says Bob Roberts, head coach of
the West Austin Corsairs in Austin, Texas.
• “It wasn’t about wins, losses or touchdowns, but more about what experience the kids
took away,” says Will Engleman, of the Kyle Invaders Youth Football in Kyle, Texas. “We
told our players to dream big and keep putting in hard work!”
• “I think it’s a great experience for young athletes,” says Ray Garret, of Overton Youth
Football in Overton, Texas. “They see that field and team all the time on TV, and then to
be able to play on it really encourages kids to play sports and stay active. Red Zone
Games is a great environment and well-organized.”

This event is not solely for the kids. Parents and fans can also experience the euphoria
of the place with the Mom Football Throw competition, Dad Field Goal contests, and fan
trivia.

“It’s a dream come true to watch my sons play there,” says Val Gonzales, of Memphis,
Texas. “Their dreams are to play there when they’re in high school.”

Bishop summed up the event with what he hopes the kids will say: “Now that I’ve played
in an NFL stadium, what else can I achieve?”

Cell Phone Found at Burglary Scene Leads ISP to an Arrest

0

This morning at 9:30, Indiana State Police officers served a Vigo County Division 1 arrest warrant on 52-year-old Lorna Lee Cottom at 7125 North Stevenson Street, Terre Haute, IN.

Cottom was incarcerated in the Vigo County Jail on one count of Burglary (Level 4 felony) and one count of Theft (A Misdemeanor).

The arrest stems from an ISP burglary investigation that began on July 7, 2017, at 6727 North Clinton Street in Vigo County.

During the investigation, officers developed information that led them to believe on or around July 3, 2017, Cottom forcefully entered through the basement window of the North Clinton Street home and removed crystal figurines, tools, cameras and other miscellaneous items totaling approximately $1571.00, along with a personal stamp collection estimated at $8760.00. The items belonged to the homeowner and another tenant.

Part of the evidence found at the scene included the lost cell phone of Lorna Lee Cottom, an acquaintance of the victims.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may occur.

The lead investigator was ISP Detective Tony Guinn. Assisting were the ISP Cyber Crimes Unit and Master Trooper Chip McKee.

Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

Indiana State Police Conclude Colorado Visit to Investigate Delphi Murder Tip

0

Thus far, the Indiana State Police, with assistance from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department, the FBI and many other police agencies have followed up on thousands of tips related to the murders Abigail Williams and Liberty German.

Of these tips well over a hundred have included references to specific persons, some of which included photos.

Each and every tip has been – and will continue to be – thoroughly investigated to determine any connection to the Delphi murder investigation.

Of the many tips being actively investigated, one tip was referred to the Indiana State Police about a person arrested in El Paso County, Colorado.

This person, identified as Daniel Nations, was initially arrested by Colorado law enforcement on Sept. 25th and was later referred to ISP on Sept. 29th for follow-up as a potential suspect in the Delphi double murder investigation.

As earlier stated, each and every tip is thoroughly investigated, as was this tip, which resulted in two ISP detectives traveling to El Paso County, Colorado to comprehensively evaluate the circumstances of this tip.

While the Indiana State Police does not, as a matter of practice, provide investigative information about specific tips, an exception has been made in this instance the result of numerous media inquiries made about this particular tip.

The Indiana State Police can share, that thus far, there has been no information developed to specifically include or exclude Daniel Nations as a suspect in the Delphi homicides.  Both state police detectives returned to Indiana late afternoon of October 2nd and will continue to review information gathered over the course of their visit to El Paso County, Colorado.

Mr. Nation does continue to be in custody of Colorado law enforcement personnel for local charges totally unrelated to the Delphi investigation.

It is important to note the Indiana State Police is very grateful for assistance rendered by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

The Indiana State Police wants to remind all citizens and media, we are still actively seeking tip information related to the Delphi murders.  To ensure tips are received and assigned for investigation it is important tips are referred to either 844-459-5786 or to this email address: Abbyandlibbytip@cacoshrf.com

Someone, somewhere has information related to the murders of Abigail Williams and Liberty German.  With the latest media attention to this investigation, we remain hopeful those with information we seek will be moved to come forward with information that will help solve these murders.

ISP Arrests Township Trustee on Two Felony Counts

0

Monday morning around 7:00, current Vermillion Township Trustee Anna “Denise” Mitchell submitted herself to the Vermillion County Jail in response to a Vermillion County Circuit Court warrant issued against her for two felony counts.

The 57-year-old Mitchell of Newport, IN. was incarcerated on one count of Official Misconduct (level 6 felony) and one count of Theft (level 6 felony).

The arrest stems from an Indiana State Police investigation that began on July 12, 2017 at the request of the Vermillion County Prosecutor’s Office, who had been notified by the Indiana State Board of Accounts of possible criminal activity found during a routine audit.

ISP developed information alleging that Anna “Denise” Mitchell issued herself checks totaling $5000 from May 2016 to February 2017.

In March of 2015, Mitchell wrote herself a check for $2000 for construction of a new office at her residence.

In December 2015, Mitchell issued herself a check for $850 indicating her extra pay as an investigator for Township Assistance.

In 2016, she overpaid her salary by $1,002 and in 2016, Mitchell overpaid her office rent by $500. From June 2015 to October 2016, Mitchell wrote herself ten checks ranging from $50 to $300 and totaling $1,195 as reimbursement for office supplies, and did not possess any support documentation for the purchases.

The personal use amounted to $10, 547. The State of Indiana incurred additional costs in the amount of $2,711.48 due to the special investigation of Township disbursements for a grand total of $13,258.48.

The case was investigated by ISP Detective Don Anglin with assistance from the Vermillion County Prosecutor’s Office, Indiana State Board of Accounts, and Master Trooper Gary Winters.

Under the Law, criminal charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.

Headlight Violation Lands Four People in Jail on Gun Charges

0

A traffic stop for a headlight violation led to the arrest of two adults and two juveniles for various gun and drug charges.

The incident began shortly before 11:00 last night when Trooper Joel Flores noticed a minivan near Pendleton Pike and Shadeland Avenue with only one headlight.

Flores stopped that van near 38th and Pendleton Pike and found the driver did not have a valid driver’s license.

There were five other occupants in the vehicle, none of which had a driver’s license. After more troopers arrived on scene to assist, Flores conducted a vehicle inventory before impounding the van.

During that inventory Flores and other troopers located three handguns, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia.

Troopers arrested four of the six occupants for the drugs and guns. One of the firearms in the vehicle had been reported stolen from Louisville Kentucky, also next to one of the guns in the vehicle was a black ski-mask.

Arrested:

  • Ja Wan Thompson, 18, of Indianapolis. He potentially faces charges for possession of a firearm by a serious violent felon, possession of a firearm without a permit, possession of marijuana and operating a vehicle without a license.
  • Tighe Bibbs Jr. 18, of Indianapolis. He potentially faces charges of possession of a handgun without a permit
  • Juvenile, 16. Faces potential charges of possession of a stolen firearm, dangerous possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm without a permit.
  • Juvenile, 16. Faces potential charges of dangerous possession of a firearm and possession of a firearm without a permit.

The charges listed are merely accusations at this point, formal charges will be determined by the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office.

All suspects are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.

You can report criminal activity in your area directly to Crime Stoppers at 317-232-TIPS (8477)
