Healthy Holiday Youth Cooking Classes Begin Tonight
Calling all 3rd -12 th graders interested in cooking and baking!
Megan Broughton and Joni Muchler of Purdue Extension will be hosting a Healthy Holiday Cooking Class.
This will be a series of three classes that will take place at the Extension Office in the lower level of the Washington County
Government Building. They will be from 6-8 p.m. on the following dates:
Monday, October 30th (Pumpkin Recipes)
Monday, November 27th (Cooking with Sweet Potatoes)
Tuesday, December 19th (Healthy Desserts)
These classes are open to all youth in grades 3-12, but you must enroll in 4-H prior to the first class.

Vet 101 Program Planned for Beef Cattle Producers
Are you a beef cattle producer with cattle husbandry questions like:
When do I call the veterinarian?
What equipment, medicines, and tools should I have on hand?
What troubleshooting information should I collect before calling the veterinarian? If so, this program is for you.
Purdue Extension – Lawrence Co., Purdue Extension – Washington County, Feldun Purdue Ag. Center, and Spring Mill Veterinary Service are offering the Vet 101 program on Tuesday,
November 14, 2017 from 6:00-7:30 pm at the Feldun Purdue Ag. Center (1117 IN 458, Bedford) to help answer all of these questions and many more.
The following demonstrations will also be included: pregnancy ultrasounding, structural soundness evaluation (feet and legs), docility scoring, udder evaluation, mouth/teeth evaluation,
and body condition scoring.

Junior Leaders Selling Cheese Balls
The Washington County Purdue Extension Office and the 4-H Junior Leaders are taking orders for Thanksgiving cheese balls. Call 812-883- 4601 or contact a 4-H Junior Leader to order
your cheese ball.
Cheese balls will be made on:
Tuesday, November 21 st – Pick up order between 5:00-6:00 p.m. Call in order by Tuesday, November 14th
All cheese balls must be picked up at the Extension Office if ordered through the Extension Office.
If ordered through a Junior Leader, the Junior Leader will deliver the cheese ball to you.
The Purdue Extension-Washington County Office is located on the lower level of the Washington County Government Building at 806 Martinsburg Road, Suite 104, in Salem.
The Jr. Leader cheese balls cost $6 each and are made of cream cheese, chipped beef, and spices. They can be rolled in parsley or pecans, or left plain.
A portion of the sales price of this product will be used to promote Washington County 4-H Jr. Leader educational programs.

Police, Fire and Military Get In Free to First IU Women’s ballgame
Indiana Women’s Basketball has announced it will hold a Salute to Service Day when it opens up the 2017-18 season on November 11 against Arkansas State at Simon Skjodt Assembly Hall.
All military, police, fire, EMS and first responders are eligible to receive two complimentary tickets by filling out the form REVISEDSalute to Service – Arkansas State_Nov11 and return it to the IU Ticket Office west lobby window during regular business hours (Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m.) or by mail.
Additional tickets can be purchased $5 for adults and $3 for youth. The deadline to order tickets is Monday, November 6. After the deadline, all qualified personnel can purchase tickets for a special price of $2. Complimentary tickets will not be issued on game day.

Mary was born October 28, 1947 to the late Burnis “Barney” and Frances Kelly Arnold.
She was a retired teacher from Henryville Elementary School, Henryville, IN.

U.S. Senator Todd Young (R-Ind.) and U.S. Representative Jackie Walorski (R-Ind.-02) introduced the bicameral Coordinating Assistance for TANF Recipients Act, which aims to improve case management coordination for individuals receiving Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) assistance.
Individuals who apply for TANF assistance often also receive benefits and services from other programs. In many cases, beneficiaries must meet with multiple caseworkers and visit different offices to satisfy the requirements of each program. By improving coordination between programs, this legislation will streamline assistance and better help recipients find jobs and become self-sufficient.
“Beneficiaries of TANF assistance are currently forced to spend too much time and energy navigating a maze of government bureaucracy,” said Senator Young. “This legislation will streamline assistance and study evidence-based approaches to help families in need get back on their feet.”
“Our safety net is essential to helping people who fall on hard times get back on their feet, but too often it becomes a web that traps people in a cycle of poverty,” Congresswoman Walorski said. “Human interaction is what breaks that cycle, and by letting states test innovative solutions tailored to local needs, we can empower individuals to move back to work and achieve the American Dream.”
The Coordinating Assistance for TANF Recipients Act sets aside $300 million for states to test methods of coordinating case management between multiple programs. Each project would be studied using a high-quality evaluation to determine whether the coordinated case management projected was effective in helping welfare recipients move to work.
Senator Young previously introduced the legislation while a member of the House of Representatives.
