Bridge restrictions to be temporarily removed on State Road 39 in Tampico
Indiana Department of Transportation contractor Three Star Painting, Inc. plans to temporarily deactivate the temporary traffic signals and reopen the northbound lane of State Road 39 over Grassy Fork on or after Thursday, June 13, in Tampico.
Crews will reactivate the temporary traffic signals and reduce S.R. 39 back to one lane as soon as Monday, June 17.
Crews began bridge rehabilitation work on S.R. 39 over Grassy Fork on Monday, June 3. The bridge is located approximately four miles north of State Road 256 and work is expected to take up to four weeks, weather permitting.
This project is part of a contract awarded to Three Star Painting in December 2023. INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, use extra caution and avoid distractions when traveling near work zones. All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.
Two Hanover Residents Arrested for Battery on a Child
On Tuesday, June 11, 2024, the parents of a five-month-old infant were arrested after an investigation into injuries the child sustained while in the parents’ care.
The investigation began on May 15, 2024, when Indiana State Police Investigators responded to Norton Children’s Hospital, Louisville, Kentucky, after the female child was transported to the hospital from Jefferson County, Indiana with suspicious injuries.
The initial investigation indicated that the child was allegedly in the custody of the mother, Makayla B. Turner, age 24, and father, Skyler Hoffman-Jenkins, age 28, both of Hanover, Indiana at the time when the child suffered the injuries.
At the conclusion of the investigation, the case was presented to the Jefferson County Prosecutor’s Office which resulted in warrants being issued for both parents for six felony counts each on charges related to battery on a child under the age of 14 with bodily injury and neglect of a dependent.
Both suspects were arrested this week without incident and were transported to the Jefferson County Jail where they were incarcerated pending their initial appearances in court.
The Indiana Department of Child Services and Norton Children’s Hospital assisted in the investigation.
