The 2017 Indiana Football Cream & Crimson Game will take place on Thursday, April 13 at 7 p.m.
Former Super Bowl winning head coach and current Monday Night Football analyst Jon Gruden will be a special guest at this year’s game.

The Indianapolis Colts today announced its 2017 preseason schedule. The dates and times for the preseason games have yet to be finalized.
The Colts will open the preseason with a Week 1 home contest against the Detroit Lions. Indianapolis and Detroit will compete for the 22nd overall time in the preseason dating back to 1964. The Colts hold a 13-7-1 preseason advantage over the Lions. In the last matchup, Indianapolis fell to Detroit by an 18-17 margin on August 29, 2009 at Ford Field.
In Week 2, Indianapolis will travel to Dallas to face the Cowboys. The contest will mark the 10th overall preseason meeting between the teams dating back to 1960, with the Colts holding a 5-4 advantage. The last time the teams faced each other in preseason play was on August 9, 2007 when Dallas defeated Indianapolis 23-10 at Texas Stadium.
The Colts will spend Week 3 on the road in Pittsburgh. Indianapolis is 11-10 overall in the preseason against the Steelers dating back to 1953. In the last matchup, the Colts were defeated by the Steelers 26-24 on August 19, 2012 at Heinz Field.
Indianapolis will close out the preseason at home against the Cincinnati Bengals. The two teams have met in the preseason every year since 2001 and traditionally in the finale. The Bengals lead the preseason series record at 16-9 dating back to 1985. The Colts won last year’s matchup in Cincinnati, 13-10.

The 140th Salem High School Alumni Banquet will be Friday, April 28 at 7p at Brooks Memorial Gym.
Honor classes are 1967, 1992 and 2017.

This year’s 25 year speaker will be Tracy Stephenson Weaver and the 50 year speaker will be William (Bill) Fielding.

Weaver is a 1992 SHS graduate and a 1995 graduate of Franklin College where she earned a BA in Journalism, with an emphasis in public relations and advertising.
She currently works with Wonder Valley Christian Camp, trains facilitators for Living Free Community of Washington County and owns her own web design company.
She and her husband, Dave (who is a 1988 SHS grad) have three children – Ethan, Zane and Trinity. They are members of the South Liberty Church in Palmyra.
Bill Fielding graduated from SHS with the class of 1967. He attended Purdue University with a BS in Chemistry in 1971. He completed his MBA from DePaul University in Chicago and received his Transition to Teaching degree from Indiana Wesleyan.
Bill initially worked at Bata Shoe Company in Salem as a plant engineer before joining the R & D department at Michigan Chemical in St. Louis.
When his daughter Rebecca was born, he and his wife, Norma, took a five year sabbatical from their jobs in Chicago to join Norma’s family farming operation in Orange and Lawrence Counties.
Following their time on the farm, the family moved to West Lafayette where Bill joined the Great Lakes Chemical Corporation.
Throughout his career, Bill worked in research, international marketing and new product development. He has been part of and led a variety of teams and projects that resulted in 12 US patents and a variety of new products in the area of flame retardants.
Bill enjoys wood working, stained glass, photography, reading and travel in his spare time. He and Norma have one daughter, Rebecca, currently working as an Occupational Therapist in the Indianapolis area, but who is preparing to move to Nairobi, Kenya to work with special needs children.

Last night at approximately 10:58 pm, Trooper Patrick Stinson made a traffic stop on Interstate #64 west bound at the 119 Mile Marker, (Georgetown). The traffic stop was for speeding 94 miles per hour in a 55 miles per hour zone.
During his traffic stop investigation trooper Stinson determined the driver, Matthew S. Binegar, 41, from Cliff Run Road in Bainbridge, OH, was driving under the influence of alcohol.
When trooper Stinson ran the driver and car information, he discovered the vehicle, a 2005 Nissan Sentra, was stolen from Sparta, KY earlier in the day.
Matthew S. Binegar was arrested and charged with Possession of a Stolen Vehicle, Reckless Driving and Driving while Intoxicated. He was incarcerated at the Floyd County Jail.
On Sunday, March 26, Indiana State Police Superintendent Douglas Carter promoted Detective Craig Starr as a Trooper Detective to serve the Special Investigations Section, Organized Crime and Corruption Unit.
Starr is a native of Orange County and a 2003 graduate of Paoli High School. After high school, Starr attended Indiana University, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Affairs in 2006.
Starr graduated from the Indiana State Police Recruit Academy as a member of the 67th Academy in 2007.
He was assigned to the Jasper District, where he patrolled Crawford and Orange Counties.
In November 2014, Starr was promoted to district detective, investigating cases in Daviess, Martin, and Orange Counties.
As a member of the Indiana State Police, Starr has served as a Field Training Officer, is certified to perform truck inspections under the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Assistance Program (MCSAP) and is a School Safety Specialist, serving the department as an Unarmed Response to an Active Shooter Event (URASE) presenter.
Starr has also completed the basic and advanced Reid Interrogation Courses.
Detective Starr and his wife Jessica reside in Orange County.


















A 34-year-old Salem man is in jail after a two-hour standoff with police surrounding his house after he fled a traffic stop earlier in the morning.
Indiana State Police Emergency Response Team, and the Indiana State Police hostage negotiator, arrived on scene at 04:20 am.
At 06:54 am, Russell Vickers 605 Public Road Salem, IN, exited his residence and was taken in to custody by Indiana State Police ERT.
Vickers was then placed into the custody of Captain Cauble, and was transported to the Washington County Detention Center and was charged with Resisting Law Enforcement with a Vehicle.
Several more charges may be pending.
On Sunday morning April 9, 2017 at 02:45 am, Captain Chris Cauble an Officer with the Salem Police Department initiated a traffic stop on a white Chevrolet truck, on the bridge near the intersection of West State Road 56 and West State Road 60.
Captain Cauble approached the vehicle and spoke to the driver.
Cauble advised the driver the reason he stopped his vehicle was for a taillight out and no working license plate lights.
The driver handed Captain Cauble his drivers license and the vehicle registration. The driver was identified as Vickers.
While Cauble was speaking to the driver, he could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Vickers.
Cauble asked the driver to exit the vehicle so he could administer field sobriety test.
Lieutenant Chad Webb arrived on scene of the traffic stop at this time.
Lieutenant Webb exited his patrol car and observed Cauble speaking to Vickers.
Vickers refused to exit the vehicle and Captain Cauble opened the drivers door of the vehicle.
Captain Cauble attempted to remove Vickers from the vehicle. Vickers was able to place the vehicle in gear and drive off.
At 02:50 AM, Lieutenant Webb notified dispatch that units were in pursuit of the white Chevrolet truck.
The truck headed West on West State Road 60.
The vehicle then turned onto Public Road and puled into the residence at 605 Public Road.
Lieutenant Webb exited his patrol car and pursued the driver on foot.
Vickers entered the front door of the residence and dead bolted the door.
Lieutenant Webb attempted to kick in the front door. While attempting to kick in the front door, threats were made and Lieutenant Webb returned to his patrol car.
Officers of the Salem Police Department, Washington County Sheriff’s Department, and the Indiana State Police, set up a perimeter around the residence.
Captain Cauble contacted Washington County Deputy Prosecutor Blaine Goode and applied for a Search Warrant for the residence.
Assistant Salem Police Chief Tim Miller contacted the Indiana State Police and requested assistance from the Indiana State Police ERT.
Indiana State Police ERT, and the Indiana State Police hostage negotiator, arrived on scene at 04:20 am.
At 06:54 am, Vickers exited the residence and was taken in to custody by Indiana State Police ERT.
The Salem Police Department was assisted by the Washington County Sheriff’s Department, Indiana State Police, Indiana State Police ERT, Indiana State Police Hostage Negotiator, and Washington County EMS.
Mrs. Robin L. Shanks age 60 of Salem passed away Saturday, April 8 at her home.
Mrs. Shanks was born February 19, 1957 in Fayetteville, North Carolina. She was a former employee of Hand and Company and Washington County Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed gardening and spending time with her Yorkies: Shelby, Teddie, Stewie and Ralphie.
Robin is survived by her husband: Samuel Shanks. They were married October 3, 1975. She is also survived by a son: Samuel Brandon Shanks of Jeffersonville, a daughter: Jessica Tye (Steve) of Pekin, a brother: Ronnie Blackburn of Raeford, North Carolina, a sister: Marlita Bell of Salem, three grandchildren and four Yorkies.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11:00AM at Weathers Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-8PM and Wednesday from 9AM-time of service.
Callie M. Seabolt, age 90, of Pekin, Indiana, passed away on April 6, 2017 at the Baptist Health Floyd Hospital. Born on
September 23, 1926 in Rose Hill, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late George Seabolt and Laura Seabolt.
Callie was a member of the Rob Camp Baptist Church in Hancock County Tennessee.
Survivors include her brother, Lester Seabolt (Wilma) of Pekin; 2 sisters, Rosie Butcher (Ikey) of Tipton, Indiana and Zelma
McMillin (Roy) of Louisville, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be at 1:00 Monday at the Hughes-Taylor Funeral Home in Pekin. Viewing will be from 10:00 AM
Monday until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Olive Branch. Brother Rodney Sweeney will officiate.
