Two From Salem Arrested For Scottsburg Cemetery Vandalism

After obtaining information through an anonymous tip officer’s with Scottsburg City Police Department made three arrests in connection with the vandalism of headstones at the Scottsburg Cemetery this afternoon.

Angeliquca Tompkins (19) of Salem, Indiana was arrestedfor Criminal Mischief and Criminal Trespassing.

Matthew Terry (20) of Salem was arrested for Criminal Mischief and Criminal Trespassing, and both were transported to the Scott County Jail.

A 16 year old female juvenile was also arrested in connection and released to her parents. The investigation will be sent to the Scott County Prosecutors Office to be reviewed for further charges.

Senator Todd Young Sworn-In to 115th Congress

Washington D.C. –United States Senator Todd Young was sworn in as Indiana’s Junior Senator for the 115thCongress today. He was officially sworn in alongside his new colleagues in the Senate Chamber.

Following the official swearing in, Senator Young was joined by his family for a ceremonial swearing in with Vice President Biden in the old Senate Chamber, where Mr. Biden offered Senator Young’s son, Tucker, some sage advice. 

Robert W. Dyke, age 77

Robert W. Dyke, age 77 of Villa Grove, Illinois passed away Sunday, January 1, 2017 at 4:28 pm, in his residence.

Born July 9, 1939 in Tuscola, Illinois, he was the son of the late James and Thelma (Long) Dyke.

He was a retired employee of Monks Wood Products in Jeffersonville and a former employee of the old Wellmans Woodworking in Campbellsburg and Century Vault and Grave Service in Pekin He attended the Salem Church of The Nazarene and was a member of the Salem Fraternal Order Of Eagles #3516.

Bob married December 1964 to Norma Sue (Heathcock) Dyke, who passed away April 25, 1997.

Survivors include: 1 Son Steve (Darla) Dyke, Villa Grove, Illinois; 5 Daughters: Elizabeth Danser, Pekin, Susan (Robert Orwick) Burnett, Corydon, Louise (Dennis) Stude, Madison, Wisconsin, April (Packy Carney) Severton, Mr. Olive, Illinois and Debra (Tommy) Keith, Leitchfield, Illinois; 4 Brothers: Gary Osterhoff, Destin, Florida, Earl Osterhoff, Tennessee and Pauli and Jody Dyke, Illinois and 2 Sisters: Shirley and Carolyn Dyke; Illinois.

He is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 1 brother and 2 sisters.

Funeral Service: 11:00 am Thursday at Dawalt Funeral Home

Visitation: 9 am until the time of the service on Thursday.
Interment at Martinsburg Cemetery.

Reds Make First Move of New Year

Today the Reds signed RHP Drew Storen to a 1-year Major League contract through the 2017 season.

Earlier today, RHP Tyrell Jenkins was claimed off waivers by the Padres.

2016 SEASON

• In January was traded from Wsh to Tor for OF Ben Revere and a player to be named…on 7/24 was designated for assignment by the Jays, and 2 days later was traded to the Mariners for RHP Joaquin Benoit.

• Posted a 10.13 ERA in 10 apps in April (8ip, 9er) and then a 4.33 ERA in his last 47 apps of the season.

• In his Mariners debut on 7/27 at Pit allowed 4 earned runs in 1.1 innings, then recorded a 1.59 ERA in his last 18 apps of the year.

• Earned his 3 saves, all for the Blue Jays, in a 4-3 win at Bos on 4/18, a 5-2 win vs LAD on 5/6 and 4-2 win vs NYY on 5/30.

• His 3-game winning streak from 8/6-9/26, covering 12 apps (3-0, 2.08), was the longest of his career.

• In August spent time on Sea’s disabled list with right shoulder inflammation.

2015: Posted 27 saves prior to the All-Star Game, third-most in the Major Leagues…in his first 38 apps of

the season through 7/22 posted 29 saves and a 1.73 ERA…in his last 20 apps of the season beginning 7/29,

following the 7/28 acquisition of Jonathan Papelbon, did not record a save while posting a 6.75 ERA…that season-ending stretch included a 9.22 ERA in his final 15 apps…suffered a broken thumb the second week of September and missed the last 3 weeks of the season…made his last appearance on 9/9.

2014: In 65 relief apps posted a 1.12 ERA, the best among all National League qualifying relievers and the lowest ERA ever by a Nationals reliever…on 9/16 at Atl threw 7 pitches, all strikes, to save the 3-0 victory that clinched Wsh’s NL East Division title…beginning 8/7, did not allow a run in his last 23 apps of the season (20ip).

2012: Missed the first 89 games of the season while recovering from 4/11/12 surgery to remove bone spurs from his right elbow (Dr. Wiemi Douoguih).

2010: Made his Major League debut less than a calendar year after he was drafted…was the second player from the 2009 first-year player draft to reach the majors, behind Reds starting pitcher Mike Leake…made his first career appearance on 5/17 at StL (0.2ip, 1k)…ranked among National League rookie pitchers in strikeouts (52, 4th), strikeouts per 9 innings (8.5, 5th), strikeouts-to-walks ratio (2.4, 5th), holds (10, 5th), batting average against (.241, 5th) and apps (54, 5th).

 

Two Men Arrested After New Year’s Day Traffic Stop

Yesterday, shortly after 1:00 pm, the Indiana State Police arrested two Corydon, Indiana men on numerous drug related charges following a traffic stop on I-65 in Jackson County, Indiana.

 
The investigation began when Trooper Randel Miller conducted a traffic stop on a 2001 Honda Civic Southbound on I-65 near the 51 mile marker, just north of Seymour. 

During the course of the traffic stop, Trp. Miller became suspicious about criminal activity taking place.  Trp. Miller’s K-9, Jinx, was deployed and alerted to the odor of illegal drugs coming from the vehicle.
 
During a search of the vehicle, Trp. Miller located approximately 15 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 90 grams of suspected marijuana, and drug paraphernalia. 

The driver of the vehicle, Joshua A. Dewitt, age 23, Corydon, Indiana and passenger Tod D. Mertz Jr, age 28, Corydon, Indiana were both arrested on numerous drug related charges. 

They were both transported to the Jackson County Jail where they were incarcerated on charges of dealing methamphetamine, possession of methamphetamine, dealing marijuana, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
 
Both men will soon be given an initial court date to appear in Jackson County Circuit Court.
 
Trp. Miller was assisted by Sgt. Brian Wilson, Indiana State Police, and Officer Bart Bevers, Seymour Police Department.

Police Investigating Vandalism at Scottsburg Cemetery

The Scottsburg City Police Department is actively investigating vandalism to gravestones at the Scottsburg Cemetery located at Beechwood Park.

Officers were contacted on January 2, 2017 by a relative who found anti-Semitic graffiti spray painted in white paint on his grandparent’s headstone.

Officers searched the cemetery and located two other stones covered in white spray paint, and contacted a cemetery board member to have affected families contacted and the stones cleaned.

Our department is currently following leads of possible suspects, but is asking for the community’s assistance in finding the suspects in this crime.

Name of Pedestrian Struck in Scott County Released

Yesterday evening around 6:30 pm, Fred Moss, 50, from Louisville, KY, but a frequent visitor to the Scottsburg area, was walking east across U.S. #31 in Scottsburg at Cherry Street.

As he was walking in the south bound lane, a 1999 maroon Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, driven by Lucas Petty, 23, from Scottsburg, struck him in the roadway.

After Moss was struck, he was knocked into the north bound lanes, still in the roadway, where another vehicle, a white 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by, Travis Riley, 37, from Seymour, IN, struck him again.

Moss was pronounced deceased at the scene.
 
Indiana State Police Re-constructionists were called to the scene to assist in the investigation of the crash.

After it is completed it will then be forwarded to the Scott County Prosecutor’s Office for review.
 
U.S. #31 was closed for approximately two hours while the investigation was completed.
 
The Scottsburg City Police, Scott County Sheriff’s Department, Scottsburg Fire Department, Scott County Coroner’s Office and Scott County E.M.S. all assisted at the scene.
 
No further information is available at this time.
