Former Pekin Man Sentenced to Four Years in Prison on Child Porn Charges

0

This past Wednesday, November 30th, in the Washington County Circuit Court, Isaac William Schmitt, 27, formerly of Pekin, IN, at the time of his arrest, was sentenced to serve four years at the Indiana Department of Correction with one year suspended.

In July of this year, Schmitt plead guilty to one count of Child Exploitation, Felony, after his arrest.

In July 2014, officers from the Indiana State Police Internet Crimes Against Children, (ICAC), Task Force and troopers from the Indiana State Police Post at Sellersburg, arrested Schmitt, then 25 years of age, from East State Road #60, Pekin.

The arrest was the result of a tip relayed to officers from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, (NCMEC), of a subject allegedly uploading child pornography to an internet account. As officers began their investigation today, it led to Borden, IN, where the suspect was located at his place of employment.

After speaking with Schmitt at his place of employment, officers along with Schmitt went to his residence located at 6045 East State Road #60 in Pekin, (Washington County).

After completing an initial search of his personal computer he was taken into custody.

Schmitt was transported to the Washington County Jail where he was incarcerated on the charges of Possession of Child Pornography, Felony and Child Exploitation, Felony.

Wilson Resigns as Head Football Coach; to be Permanently Succeeded by Associate Head Coach Tom Allen

0

“I appreciate Coach Wilson’s many positive contributions to our football program,” Glass said. “This has nothing to do with the performance of the football team, which I view as quite positive and very much heading in the right direction.”

iniiufootballcoachkevinwilson10

Glass noted no NCAA compliance issues are involved in the matters giving rise to Wilson’s resignation.

Glass also announced that Tom Allen will be the next Indiana University head football coach, also effective immediately.

Allen, a New Castle, Ind., native and former head coach (2004-2006) and defensive coordinator (1998-2003) at football power Indianapolis Ben Davis High School, joined the Indiana football staff as associate head coach on January 15, 2016. A 25-year coaching veteran, this year Allen helped lead a dramatic turnaround of IU’s defense, just as he had done before at Ole Miss and the University of South Florida.

“Once Coach Wilson and I concluded to part ways, I turned to determining who the best person in the country would be to keep up our momentum and take us to another level with our football team,” Glass said. “I quickly concluded that person was in our midst in Tom Allen. He is a leader of men. He is demanding without being demeaning. He is a proven, successful coach on a national scale with deep Indiana ties. He cares about his players, and they care back.”

Allen engineered one of the top defensive turnarounds in the country in 2016. IU’s defense improved in every major statistical category against a schedule featuring four top 10 opponents, a program first. IU is holding its opponents to 372.6 total yards, an improvement of 136.9 yards over 2015, the largest improvement in the country. The Hoosiers have limited their foes to 93.6 fewer passing yards, also first nationally, and 10.3 fewer points, which ranks sixth nationally. Indiana’s defense has given up 27 fewer touchdowns than one season ago.

Allen, who was a nominee for the 2016 Broyles Award — honoring college football’s top assistant coach, mentored one of the better defenses to play at IU. For the first time in program history, six defensive players were recognized with All-Big Ten honors. Tegray Scales and Rashard Fant earned second team accolades, and Ralph Green III, Marcus Oliver, Jonathan Crawford and Marcelino Ball received honorable mention recognition.

Scales leads the nation with 87 solo tackles, and he is first in the Big Ten with 116 tackles and 20.5 tackles for loss — third best in IU history. Fant’s 17 pass breakups lead the conference and rank second nationally, while his 19 passes defended also lead the conference and are tied for third in the country. Oliver is first in the conference in forced fumbles and third in solo tackles. Against Purdue, Crawford became the first Big Ten player and just the eighth FBS player with three takeaways. He is tied for the conference lead in fumble recoveries and is sixth nationally. Ball leads all Big Ten true freshmen with 73 stops. Green led the Hoosiers line with 7.5 tackles for loss, to go along with 29 stops, 19 solo, one sack and two pass breakups.

The contract for Tom Allen is still being finalized and will be released once it is complete.

Glass Accepts Wilson’s Resignation; Hires Tom Allen as New Coach

IU’s Defensive Coach Tom Allen was named head coach of the Indiana University Football program on Dec. 1, 2016.

IU Athletic Director Fred Glass met with Kevin Wilson this morning at 8:30a and Wilson submitted his resignation.

A press conference was called this evening at 6p. It is LIVE on WSLM 1220 AM and 97.9 FM now.

Allen is a New Castle, Ind., native and joined the Indiana staff as associate head coach/defense on Jan. 15, 2016.

Allen, a 24-year coaching veteran, was the defensive coordinator at the University of South Florida in 2015.

South Florida posted an 8-5 record and earned a trip to the Miami Beach Bowl last season. Allen mentored three all-conference selections and the American Athletic Conference’s top scoring defense (19.6 points per game in league play).

Allen Served as head coach at Ben Davis High School (2004-06), defensive coordinator at Ben Davis (1998-03) and Marion High School (1997), and earned his master’s degree at IU (2002).

This is the seventh stop on the collegiate level and his fourth as a defensive coordinator.

Over the last 21 years, the teams for which Allen has been a member of the coaching staff have posted a combined record of 216-62 (.777).

In his lone season in Tampa, USF tied for 13th nationally in tackles for loss (7.5 per game), tied for 14th in interceptions (17), tied for 24th in turnovers gained (25), tied for 26th in sacks (2.62), 31st in rushing defense (141.4), 34th in passing efficiency defense (118.76) and 35th in scoring defense (22.9).

Allen spent the 2012-14 campaigns as linebackers coach and special teams coordinator at Ole Miss. He coached All-SEC linebackers Serderius Bryant and Denzel Nkemdiche.

The Rebels closed out 2014 with a 9-3 record and ranked No. 9 after they met No. 6 TCU in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. Ole Miss spent nine weeks in the AP top 10 with a high-water mark of No. 3.

In 2014, the Rebels led the nation in scoring defense (13.8) and allowed a national low 18 touchdowns.

Ole Miss topped the SEC in five categories and ranked in the top 20 nationally in 11, including 10th in red zone defense, 11th in tackles for loss (7.5), 12th in turnovers gained (28), 13th in total defense (321.2) and 13th in defensive touchdowns scored (4).

Allen worked with defensive coordinator Dave Wommack to help guide a huge improvement in the Rebels defense, which ranked last in the SEC in total defense before their arrival in 2011. Under their stewardship Ole Miss consistently ranked among the top teams in the SEC and nationally in tackles for loss and sacks.

Nkemdiche earned Freshman All-America honors and second team AP All-SEC after leading the Rebels in tackles (82), TFLs (13.0), forced fumbles (4) and interceptions (3) in 2012.

As assistant head coach at Arkansas State (2011), the Red Wolves led the Sun Belt Conference and ranked in the top 25 nationally in total defense (331.46) and scoring defense (20.77). ASU also finished eighth nationally in tackles for loss (7.62) and 15th in sacks (2.69).

Arkansas State went 10-2 overall and 8-0 in the Sun Belt. Allen coached first team all-conference selection Demario Davis and second team pick Nathan Herrold. Davis was selected in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the New York Jets.

Prior to ASU, Allen served as the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach at Drake University (2010). The Bulldogs allowed just 330 yards per game while ranking No. 6 nationally in the FCS in rush defense (94.2), No. 8 in sacks (33), No. 17 in tackles for loss (81) and No. 25 in scoring defense (20.4).

He oversaw seven All-Pioneer Football League (PFL) players, one All-America selection and the PFL Defensive Player of the Year.

At NAIA Lambuth University (2008-09), Allen was the assistant head coach, defensive coordinator and linebackers coach, and he was a part of two Mid-South Conference championships and the school’s first undefeated regular season (11-0) in 2009. That defense ranked No. 4 nationally in scoring defense, No. 7 in pass defense and sacks, No. 9 in total defense and No. 12 in third down conversions.

He tutored eight first team all-conference players, one NAIA All-America selection and a Mid-South Conference Freshman of the Year.

First collegiate coaching stop was at Wabash College, where as secondary coach and special teams coordinator the team won the NCAC championship and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division II playoffs. Three defensive backs were named to the All-NCAC team.

• Prior to Marion H.S., Allen was defensive coordinator at Armwood High School (1995-96) and head coach at Temple Heights High School (1992-94) in Florida.

• Allen earned his bachelor’s degree from Maranatha Baptist University (Wis.) in 1992. Tom and his wife, Tracy, have three children, Hannah (19), Thomas (17) and Brittney (15).

IU Fires Football Coach Kevin Wilson

0

According to sources at the school, Indiana University has fired head coach Kevin Wilson after six seasons and will announce the firing at a press conference today at 6p.

iniiufootballcoachkevinwilson10

According to Jeff Keag, Senior Assistant Athletic Director for Media Relations, the Indiana University Department of Athletics will make a major announcement in regard to the football program at 6 pm today.

Keag said the press conference will be held in the Henke Hall of Champions.

In January, he was rewarded with a raise and a six-year contract extension — at $2.55 million per season — through 2021 after guiding the Hoosiers last year to their first bowl appearance since 2007.

Wilson just finished back to back .500 seasons with a second bowl trip looming.

No word on who will be coaching the team in that bowl game or who if the school will promote someone from within the program or begin a nationwide search for a new head coach.

Officials have not yet announced a reason for Wilson’s dismissal but according to ESPN, a former Hoosiers player said that he and at least five current IU players were interviewed about Wilson’s treatment of players in meetings with athletic department officials and university lawyers during the past two weeks.

According to a Tweet this afternoon by Gabe Ikard, “Kevin Wilson ripped my buckled helmet off my head, spit on my jersey, and punched me in the chest during practice. But the guy could coach.”

Indiana’s Board of Trustees met in Bloomington this afternoon, and their meeting included a two-and-a-half hour executive session, according to an agenda on the university’s website.

Throwback Thursdsay – Historically Speaking

This is the old Purlee & Boling, (Leslie “Speck” & Boyd, respectively), clothing store on the square that later became Bennett’s.

In fact, in the tile outside the store, you can still see the monogram, P&B.

Picture in the late 1920’s shows a large crowd gathering for a car giveaway.

According to Washington County Historian, Jeremy Elliott, his grandmother, Jesse Wilson, always told him that her father, Winifred, won the car and since he was married to Martha J Boling, 1st cousin of Boyd, numerous people believed the drawing was rigged.

So late that evening, according to Elliott, someone or some people who apparently felt cheated, set fire to Elliott’s great grandfather’s barn and burned it to the ground!
