Making Carmel from Goat’s Milk Seminar

Goat Milk Caramel Making Program Planned for March 5 th
The Washington County Goat Association and Purdue Extension – Washington County are hosting a Goat Milk Caramel Making program on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 from 6:30-8:00 pm at
the Washington County Government Building (806 Martinsburg Rd., Salem).

Heidi Potter, Clark Co. ANR Educator and Owner of Summer Solstice Farms, will demonstrate how she makes delicious caramels using goat milk from her farm. RSVP’s are appreciated by Friday, March 1 by calling the Purdue Extension – Washington County office at 812-883-4601. Space is limited.

Kimberly Baker, age 60 of Salem

Kimberly Baker, age 60 of Salem, passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2024, at Baptist Health Floyd hospital. 

Born September 15, 1963, she was the daughter of Patricia Curtis.

She proudly served her country in the United States Air Force.

Kimberly is survived by her husband, Greg Boggs; her mother, Patricia Curtis; her son, Brian Michael Phillips; and her 4 step-daughters: Kylie Baker, Carol Baker, Kayla Baker, and Katie Baker.

Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at 1 p.m. at Hughes-Taylor Funeral Home – Salem chapel, with Tom Fultz officiating. 

Visitation will be on Saturday from 11 a.m. until time of service at the funeral home.  Burial to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.

Lynda Lamb, 59, Orleans

Lynda Lamb, 59, Orleans, Indiana who Passed January 30, 2024 at her home. Born October 24, 1964, in Abeline, Kansas.  She was the daughter of John Lamb and Barbara DeWitt Lamb, both of whom preceded her.  

 She retired from French Lick Springs Resort after over 15 years of employment.  After her retirement she continued to work at Smokin’ Jim’s BBQ in Bedford and Liner Products in Paoli.

She graduated from Yokota High School (Yokota Air Base, Japan) Class of 1982.

Lynda was also a member of the Mt. Horeb Baptist Church in Orleans.

Lynda was born into a military family that traveled, thus was able to spend her time growing up experiencing different countries such as Germany, The Philippines, and Japan.  Japan being where she attended and graduated high school on Yokota Air Base.  She remained a proud member of her graduating class of 1982 even after returning to the States.

She was passionate about continuing her education.  She earned many different certificates and degrees throughout her life from IVY Tech College.

Lynda loved spending time at her “Happy Place”, also known as the ocean.  While Florida’s Gulf Coast was her favorite place to visit, she also liked to visit and experience other beaches.

Lynda also loved spending time with her grandchildren.  She believed no distance was too far to go to make her grandchildren happy or to have fun with them.  Whether it be renting a bouncy castle or just spending quality time, her grandchildren meant the world to her.

Lynda cared about people.  Not only her family and friends; She cared about everyone.  She would do anything for anyone in need and was passionate about being a wonderful person.  She was the kind of person who would give the last thing she had if it brightened the day of another.  Lynda made it her mission to be a beautiful person on the inside and out.

Memorial Service to be held Friday February 2, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a short service to follow at Dillman Scott Funeral Home located at 226 W. Campbell St.  Paoli IN 47454.

Doris Mae Sansbury, age 88 of Salem

Doris Mae Sansbury, age 88 of Salem, Indiana passed away Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at 3:33 am, in Baptist Health Floyd in New Albany, Indiana.

Born October 3, 1935 in Louisville, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Hubert Puckett and Ruth (Presley) Puckett.
On September 29,1951 she married Harry T. Sansbury, who passed away September 8, 2015. 

She was a member of the First Christian Church of Borden, was a homemaker and a former employee of the old Doe Run Inn in Bradenburg, Kentucky. She loved handmade quilting and spending time with her family.

Survivors include:   
Daughter: Jo Ann (Harold) Jackson of Pekin, Indiana.   
Daughter: Stephanie (Otis) Bennett of Bradenburg, KY.   
8 grandchildren, several great great and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by, her parents and a son, Harry Thomas Sansbury Jr.

Visitation: 10 am to 1 pm Friday at Dawalt Funeral Home with a    
Funeral Service to be held at 1:00 pm Friday at Dawalt Funeral Home with Brian Combs officiating and followed by interment at Kay’s Chapel Cemetery near Fredericksburg, Indiana. 

Leah Rae Waynick, 81, of Orleans

Leah Rae Waynick, 81, of Orleans, Indiana, passed away at 5:25 PM on January 27, 2024 at Paoli Health and Living Community in Paoli, Indiana.

She was born October 24, 1942 in Bedford, Indiana, the daughter of Ray Randolph and Kathryn (Herle) Waynick.

Leah loved collecting puzzles, rabbit’s feet and clocks.  She was a member of the Orleans United Methodist Church.  Leah’s main love were her many cats over the years. 

She remembered them all by name and they even went on vacation with her to the Smoky Mountains, one at a time.  Leah attended special school in Bloomington for several years and a year at Orleans High School. 

After leaving school, Leah worked in her Grandparents restaurant, Herle’s Café as a dish washer. 

She loved meeting the people there and made many friends.  Leah, her mother and grandparents, Jesse and Edeth Herle traveled every summer to the Smokey Mountains to visit Indian friends in Cherokee, NC.  These things were the highlight of Leah’s life.

She is survived by cousins; Linda Harris, “Guardian” of Orleans, Indiana, Kristin Harris-Deckard of Southport, IN, and Scott W. Harris of Blue Springs, Missouri, Kyleigh Knott, Mason Deckard, Amber Harris, Jamel Bowden, Amari Dawkins, Adam Terrell and Alaxandar Terrell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; cousins Barry Hodson and Tammy Walker.

Funeral services will be Thursday, February 15, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home with Pastor Ralph Purkhiser officiating.  

Burial will follow in the Fairview Cemetery, Orleans, Indiana.

Visitation will be Wednesday, February 14, 2024 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Ochs-Tetrick Funeral Home in Orleans.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Orleans United Methodist Church or Orange County Humane Society.
