The Indiana Department of Transportation plans to close Interstate 64’s eastbound right lane from mile marker 117.5 to mile marker 119.5 this Sunday (APRIL 10) at 9 a.m. while construction crews saw cutpavement, remove failing roadbed and make full-depth concrete patches.

Restrictions should be lifted by 5 a.m. Monday.

Sunday’s work is weather dependent.

This marks the beginning of weekend closures required by concrete placement and curing for a $7.2 million repair and resurfacing project on I-74 between State Road 62/S.R. 64 near Georgetown and the Kentucky state line at the Sherman-Minton bridge.

E & B Paving of Clarksville is INDOT’s contractor charged with making full-depth concrete patches and partial-depth asphalt patches before milling the roadway and installing a new asphalt surface on this 6-mile section of I-64 in Floyd County.

Concrete patching will occur every weekend—expect during Thunder Over Louisville and Derby weekend—9 a.m. Sunday mornings through 5 a.m. Monday mornings, weather permitting.  Partial depth asphalt patching will be scheduled during nighttime hours once concrete work has been completed.

I-64’s traffic count is 43,790 vehicles per day.

The West Washington Jr./Sr. High School Drama Club will perform Nunsense: The Mega-Musical Version at the West Washington Elementary Multi-purpose Gym on Friday, April 8 at 7:30 P.M.; Saturday, April 9 at 7:30 P.M.; and Sunday, April 10 at 3:00 P.M. All tickets are $8.00.

April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month and the annual Drive Now TXT L8R Social Media Contest is an opportunity for Indiana high school, trade school, and college students to win scholarships, as well as spread the word to “Drive Now, TXT L8R.” Participants have a chance to win up to $5,000 in scholarships.

The Eastern High School Acts of Kindness Club plans to hold a community flea market from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, in the front parking lot of the school.

Space can be purchased for $20. All funds raised from the sell of space will be given to Kosair Children’s Hospital. Vendors can purchase space up until the day of the event. Just arrive and pay for the space before setting up.

Should the weather be inclement, the market will be moved to April 16.

A Marengo man was involved in a two-vehicle accident Tuesday afternoon at Ind. 37 and 39th Street.

According to a Bedford Police report, Michael Jones of Bedford was traveling east on River Bluff Road and told police he saw a car going south in the right lane of Ind. 37 so he waited for it to pass and then proceeded to attempt to cross the southbound lanes of Ind. 37 to get to the median so that he could continue north on Ind. 37.

Jones told police that a 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by 55-year-old Crecelius Perry of Marengo was in the left lane but didn’t see the car because an unknown vehicle in the right lane was blocking his view.

Jones’ 2000 Toyota Corolla then collided with Perry’s car causing Jones’ vehicle to stop in the median, south of the intersection.

Perry told police he didn’t have a chance to stop to avoid the accident.

Jones did not complainof an injury, but both drivers were treated at the scene by an IU Health Hospital ambulance crew.
