The Washington County Sheriff’s Department arrested former Washington County Engineer and candidate for State Representative Mike Goering Friday, March 22 at 1:45p on charges of sexual misconduct with a minor.

The 14-year old girl involved is from Washington County and was a friend of the family.

Goering was charged with five counts of sexual misconduct with a minor and one count of attempted sexual misconduct with a minor — all Class B Felonies.

A warrant was obtained from Judge Larry Medlock in the Washington Circuit Court.

The bond was set at $120,000 full cash. Goering, 59, and his family have operated Leann and Mike’s Sugar Bush, maple syrup farm in Salem for many years.

He also served for several years as the county engineer. Most recently, Goering has been the Manager/Engineer of the Washington County Solid Waste District.

On March 5, the Washington County Sheriff’s Department received a complaint of sexual misconduct with a minor from a juvenile and her family. Lt. James Strange was assigned the investigation from Sheriff Claude Combs. The Washington County Division of Child Services was informed of the allegation.

The 12 day investigation resulted in charges being filed today’s arrest. Goering was booked into the Washington County Detention Center this afternoon.

And as always, those arrested are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
