On June 14, 2014 at approximately 1:55 pm, trooper Shannon Burton of the Indiana State Police Post at Sellersburg arrested Derek Wheeler, 25, from Apple Lane in Salem.
The arrest was the result of a phone call from a concerned citizen who was following the white 1999 Toyota Camry he was driving. The Toyota allegedly ran off the roadway, crashed into a cable barrier and then returned to the roadway travelling to the southbound rest park.
Trooper Burton arrived at the rest park and located Derek Wheeler.
After speaking to him Trooper Burton placed him under arrest for Possession of Heroin, Class D Felony; Possession of a Syringe, Class D Felony; Maintaining a Common Nuisance, Class D Felony; Possession of Paraphernalia, Class A Misdemeanor and Operating While Intoxicated with Endangerment, Class A Misdemeanor.
