The collapse of a 36-inch drainage pipe under U.S. Highway 31 near the 28 mile marker has flooded the north-south roadway in both directions by as much a three feet.

Shortly before 5 p.m., Indiana Department of Transportation officials closed U.S. 31 to all traffic.
Motorists are advised to use these alternate routes:
- U.S. 31 SOUTHBOUND traffic take State Road 56 to Interstate 65 at Scottsburg
- U.S. 31 NORTHBOUND traffic take S.R. 160 to I-65 at Henryville
No timetable for repairs has been established at this time. Officials do not believe the highway will fully open to traffic within the next 24 hours.
