Former Washington County Treasurer Kevin Stewart will be running this fall for the City of Salem Clerk Treasurer after the Democrat party chose him to be their candidate, ousting incumbent Patricia Day Persinger, by 119 votes.
Persinger, who has held the position in Salem under the past two Democratic mayors (Judy Chastain and current Mayor David Bower) received 281 votes. Four of those votes were early votes.
She received 41.26 percent of the vote.
Stewart received 398 votes at the polls and 2 early votes. Stewart received 58.74 percent of the vote.
