Doan Found Dead In Washington County Jail Cell

The Indiana State Police are investigating the death of a Washington County Detention Center Inmate.

According to ISP Sgt. Jerry Goodin, Travis W. Doan, 40, from Hardinsburg, IN, hung himself in his cell on Monday evening.

Doan was booked into the jail on August 29 on charges of a writer of attachment.

At approximately 5p Monday, the Washington County Sheriff’s Department contacted the Indiana State Police and requested assistance with an inmate that was found deceased inside of a jail cell.

Washington County Sheriff Roger Newlon requested ISP detectives and ISP Crime Scene Investigators handle the investigation.

Goodin said this is being treated as a death investigation.

An autopsy was performed Tuesday and preliminary autopsy results showed death by hanging by ligature, said Goodwin.

Goodin said toxicology reports are pending.

Goodin said he could not reveal what Doan used to hang himself.
