Della Sarah Crotty

Della Sarah Crotty was born October 17, 1929 in Loveland, Ohio.

She was the daughter of Timothy Crotty and Della Adkins Crotty.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her infant brother, her sister, Mary Newlon; her nephew, Jerry Newlon; and her husband, Rudolph Charles Schmidt.  Della and Rudy were married in 1953 and were married for over 29 years.  Together they owned and operated Rudy’s Sohio Service Station in Miamiville, Ohio.

Della was a member of the Miamiville Volunteer Fire Department’s Women’s Auxiliary and volunteered as an EMT for the Miamiville Life Squad.  She was also a member of the Ladies’ Aid of the Miamiville Methodist Church.

In 1985, Della and her mother moved to Salem, IN to be closer to family.  She became a member of the Salem Church of Christ and as one of her ministries enjoyed collecting toys for the children who visited the Washington County St. Vincent Hospital.  She worked as an employee of DanMar Pharmacy for 10 years.

In 2007, Della married James H. Young.  She is survived by her husband; her two nieces, Belinda S. Denny (Paul) of Sellersburg, IN and Teresa A. Newlon Draper (Cooper) of Venice, FL; and her nephew’s wife, Charlotte Newlon of Salem, IN.   Della also greatly enjoyed her extended family of 1 great niece (Paige Newlon), 3 great nephews (Jeremy {Angie}, Phillip {Jenni}, and Trey Denny {Sherry}), and 6 great great nieces and nephews.  While her marriage to Jim came late in life, she considered his large family of 5 children and their spouses and families a welcome addition to her family life.

Della will always be remembered for her smile, her kindness, generosity and her willingness to be involved in her community.  She was a member of the Washington County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, the Women’s Evening Study Club, and the Purdue Extension Southside Homemaker’s Club.  One of her favorite charities was the Eastern Kentucky Christian Appalachian Project.  In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts are encouraged to the Salem (High Street)  Church of Christ or the charity or church of your choosing.
