140th SHS Alumni Banquet April 28

The 140th Salem High School Alumni Banquet will be Friday, April 28 at 7p at Brooks Memorial Gym. 

Honor classes are 1967, 1992 and 2017.

Tickets are $14 per person and will be on sale now through April 22 at LaGene Jewelers, Lincks Clothing and House of Fashion in Salem.

This year’s 25 year speaker will be Tracy Stephenson Weaver and the 50 year speaker will be William (Bill) Fielding. 

Weaver is a 1992 SHS graduate and a 1995 graduate of Franklin College where she earned a BA in Journalism, with an emphasis in public relations and advertising. 

She currently works with Wonder Valley Christian Camp, trains facilitators for Living Free Community of Washington County and owns her own web design company. 

She and her husband, Dave (who is a 1988 SHS grad) have three children – Ethan, Zane and Trinity. They are members of the South Liberty Church in Palmyra. 

Bill Fielding graduated from SHS with the class of 1967. He attended Purdue University with a BS in Chemistry in 1971. He completed his MBA from DePaul University in Chicago and received his Transition to Teaching degree from Indiana Wesleyan. 

Bill initially worked at Bata Shoe Company in Salem as a plant engineer before joining the R & D department at Michigan Chemical in St. Louis. 

When his daughter Rebecca was born, he and his wife, Norma, took a five year sabbatical from their jobs in Chicago to join Norma’s family farming operation in Orange and Lawrence Counties. 

Following their time on the farm, the family moved to West Lafayette where Bill joined the Great Lakes Chemical Corporation. 

Throughout his career, Bill worked in research, international marketing and new product development. He has been part of and led a variety of teams and projects that resulted in 12 US patents and a variety of new products in the area of flame retardants. 

Bill enjoys wood working, stained glass, photography, reading and travel in his spare time. He and Norma have one daughter, Rebecca, currently working as an Occupational Therapist in the Indianapolis area, but who is preparing to move to Nairobi, Kenya to work with special needs children.
