Lady Lions Battle Mid-Southern Conference Foe Brownstown in Semi-State Saturday

For the sixth consecutive year, Jeffersonville High School will play host to the Semi-State round of the 45th Annual Indiana High School Athletic Association Girls State Basketball Tournament, presented by the Indiana Pacers and the Indiana Fever, on Saturday, February 22nd, 2020 at the William S. Johnson Arena.

Jeffersonville joins Jasper High School
as the Southern Semi-State hosts, while LaPorte High School and Logansport High School will host the Northern Semi-States.

The Class 3A Semi-State Championship game, slated to tip-off at 1pm EST will feature two old Mid-Southern Conference rivals as the Brownstown Central Braves (26-3), ranked #16 in Class 3A, take on the Salem Lions (24-3), ranked #1 in Class 3A.

Brownstown Central captured their fourth Regional Championship in school history, and first since 2011 this past Saturday at Greencastle as they knocked off Indianapolis Cardinal Ritter 54-40 in the morning semi-final and then knocked out seven-time State Champion Heritage Christian 54-42 in the Championship game to advance to Jeffersonville.

The Braves come into the game riding a 12-game winning streak, with their last loss coming on January 7th at home to Madison, 49-40.

The Lady Lions won their second consecutive Regional title last Saturday at Charlestown, downing Washington 62-48 in the
morning semi-final, and then survived a late rally by Greensburg to post a 53-52 victory in the Championship game.

The Lions come into the contest riding an 8-game winning streak and are looking to avenge a loss to the Braves earlier this season, as they lost 54-50 decision on their home floor on December 10th.

The Class 4A Southern Semi-State Championship will tip at around 3:30pm EST and pit the Bedford-North Lawrence
Stars (21-5), ranked #14 in Class 4A against the Lawrence North Wildcats (24-4), ranked #8 in Class 4A with a trip to Indianapolis
on the line.

Bedford-North Lawrence, the 2013 and 2014 Class 4A State Champions, are making their first trip to the Semi-State
since that season and come into the game having won 14 out of their last 15 games.

They advanced to Jeffersonville by defeating Evansville North 55-40 last Saturday in the Columbus North Regional, and then knocked out East Central 54-48 in the Championship contest.

Lawrence North won their fourth Regional Championship earned their second consecutive trip to Jeffersonville this past Saturday at Decatur Central as they defeated fellow Metropolitan Conference foe Ben Davis 38-31 in the morning game,
and then hung on to down Brownsburg 58-57 in the Championship game.

The Wildcats, last year’s Class 4A State Runner-Up won their first 19 games of the season and are looking to make a return trip to the State Finals.

Doors will open at 12:00pm EST, with the Semi-State tickets costing $10 for both games.

All ages (pre-school and up) will require a ticket, as per IHSAA regulations. Each school has been given an allotment
of pre-sale tickets and additionally, tickets will be sold at the door on the day of the event.

The winners of both of these match-ups will advance to the 2020 IHSAA Girls State Finals to be held next
Saturday, February 29th at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.

The Class 3A Championship Game is slated to tip at
approximately 6:30pm EST and will play the winner of the LaPorte Semi-State contest, either NorthWood or Benton
Central, while the Class 4A Championship Game will tip around 8:15 EST, taking on the winner of the LaPorte
Semi-State, either Penn or Northwestern.

Tickets for the State Finals will be $15 per session.
