Billy Joe Walker, 76, of Marengo, Indiana died on November 3, 2021 at Baptist Health- Floyd. Billy Joe was born on March 8, 1945 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Roy Franklin and Gertrude (Showalter) Walker.
He was a graduate of Marengo High School and Indiana University. He was a social studies and science teacher at Paoli Jr. Sr. High School and served as high school football coach, Jr. High track coach, Jr. high boys basketball coach, girls varsity basketball coach, boys basketball score and bookkeeper, chess club sponsor, and drove a school bus for Paoli High School.
After retirement, he taught class at Vincennes University- Jasper Campus and served on: SWCD Board, Crawford County School Board, Park Board, 4-H Extension Board, Hoosier Uplands Board of Directors. He was a member of the Marengo Masonic Lodge #475 for 50 years, was a Kentucky Colonel, and drove a school bus for Crawford County Community Schools.
He is survived by his wife, Alice M. (Scott) Walker; daughter, Kathy Jo House (Danny); brother, Roy E. Walker (Jackie); grandchildren, Anthony Tyler Griffith (Madison) and Ryan Lee Griffith (Jessica); step grandchildren: Jonathan House (Sarah) and Heidi Morris (Larry); step great-grandchildren: Riley and Raelynn House, Conner and Wyatt Morris, and Ethan Hopper; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be on Sunday, November 7, 2021 at 2:30 pm at the Marengo United Methodist Church, 1449 N. Hardy Road, Marengo, Indiana 47140. Interment will follow in the Marengo Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Saturday, November 6, 2021 from 2-7 pm and after 1:00 pm until time of the service at 2:30 pm, all at the church. Masonic rites will be on Saturday at 6:30 pm at the church by the Marengo Masonic Lodge #475.
Pastor Kim Allen will officiate the service.
