Francis Imogene Berkenmeyer, 95, a lifelong resident of Ramsey, Indiana, passed from this life on November 18, 2024 at Harrison County Hospital in Corydon, Indiana.
She was born on June 18, 1929 in Ramsey, Indiana to the late Leo Stanley and Marietta (Pavey) Mousty. She married the love of her life, Joseph G. Berkenmeyer on November 2, 1946.
Imy, as most folks called her, was a former employee at the ICI Army Ammunition Plant in Charlestown, Indiana, Wennings Packing Company, New Salisbury Pic Pac (Thriftway), as well as doing various other jobs and helping her husband on the farm.
In 1986, the restaurant in Ramsey, Indiana became available and she operated it until 1997, something she always dreamed of doing. After making the decision to close the restaurant, she worked and helped her grandson at his funeral home, Brown-Newkirk Funeral Home in Milltown, Indiana.
The final job she worked was in the Health and Beauty Aids at Wal-Mart in Corydon, Indiana.
She was a member of the VFW Post #2950 Women’s Auxiliary, Mt. Tabor Church of Christ, and former member of the Ramsey Lions Club. She served as Blue River Township Advisory Board for 16 years, something she enjoyed doing. She enjoyed gardening, raising flowers, cooking, and sitting around her kitchen table spending time with family and friends.
She is survived by her daughters, Mary Jo Austin (Jesse) of Ramsey, Indiana and Arlene S. Harlan (Walter Meek) of Ramsey, Indiana; and grandchildren, Jerry Wayne Brown Jr., Felicia S. Camm, Christopher A. Brown, Miranda L. McKinney, and Adam C. Austin; great-grandchildren, Joseph, Jeremiah, Cassandra, Sadie, Darius, Dashaun, Ariel, and Garrett; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joseph G. Berkenmeyer; daughter, Diane J. Brown; son, Danny P. Berkenmeyer; and a grandson, Matthew J. Austin.
Funeral services will be on Sunday, November 24, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Milltown, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Mt. Tabor Church of Christ Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3-8 p.m. on Saturday, November 23, 2024 and on Sunday, November 24, 2024 after 11:00 a.m. until time of the service at 2:00 p.m., all at the funeral home.
Bro. Larry Acuff will officiate the service.
