An Indiana State Police investigation led to a felony forgery charge against a Bedford woman after investigators examined documentation submitted to the Washington County Probation Department.
On Sept. 15, the Washington County Probation Department contacted Indiana State Police Detective Travis Baker regarding suspected fraudulent documentation previously submitted to the probation department by Taylor N. Johnson, 30, of Bedford.
Baker learned Johnson had provided a letter purportedly authored by a physician concerning her daughter’s alleged hospitalization and had used the reported hospitalization to explain missed required probation appointments.
During the investigation, Baker determined the physician identified in the letter was not affiliated with Riley Children’s Hospital and confirmed the child had not been hospitalized as reported.
Baker subsequently developed probable cause to believe the letter was fraudulent.
Detective Baker submitted his findings to the Washington County Prosecutor’s Office.
On Sept. 17, a Washington County court found probable cause and issued an arrest warrant for Johnson for one count of Forgery, a level 6 felony.
On Thursday, Sept. 17, Troopers arrested Johnson on the forgery warrant and on a separate Washington County warrant for violation of probation/petition to revoke suspended sentence.
The separate warrant stemmed from an underlying Level 6 felony theft offense and Class A misdemeanor driving while suspended with a prior conviction.
Johnson was incarcerated at the Washington County Jail.
