INDOT Plans Projects Around Southern Indiana

Several road projects will be going on in the WSLM Listening Area including:

Closure planned on U.S. 421 in Jefferson County

Indiana Department of Transportation contractor 5 Star Company, Inc. plans to close U.S. 421 on or after Monday, March 24, to complete a small structure replacement project in Jefferson County.

The closure will take place approximately three miles north of the U.S. 421 and State Road 250 intersection and is expected to be complete in late April, weather permitting. Signage will be placed in the area prior to the start of construction. During the closure, motorists should use the official detour which follows S.R. 7 to U.S. 50.

This project is part of a $1.5 million contract awarded to 5 Star in December 2024. INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, use extra caution, and avoid distractions when traveling in and near work zones. All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.

Closure planned on South Wyandotte Cave Road in Crawford County

Indiana Department of Transportation contractor E&B Paving, Inc. plans to close South Wyandotte Cave Road over I-64 on or after Monday, March 10, to complete two bridge replacement projects in Crawford County.

The closure will take place just south of East Shafer Ridge Road over eastbound and westbound I-64 and is expected to be complete in early December, weather permitting. Shoulder closures will periodically be used on eastbound and westbound I-64 while bridge work is in progress.

Signage will be placed in the area prior to the start of construction. During the closure, motorists should use the official detour which uses S.R. 66 and S.R. 62.

This work is part of a $5.2 million contract awarded to E&B in December 2024. INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, use extra caution, and avoid distractions when traveling in and near work zones. All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.

Closure planned on State Road 56 in Scott County

Indiana Department of Transportation contractor E&B Paving, Inc. plans to close State Road 56 over Stucker Fork on or after Monday, March 10, to complete a bridge deck overlay project in Scott County.

The closure will take place just east of Scottsburg between State Road 203 and State Road 3 and is expected to be complete in late April, weather permitting. Signage will be placed in the area prior to the start of construction. During the closure, motorists should use the official detour route which follows U.S. 31 to S.R. 356 to S.R. 3.

This project is part of a $1.8 million contract awarded to E&B in July 2024. INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, use extra caution, and avoid distractions when traveling in and near work zones. All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.

Work to resume on State Road 56 in Madison

Indiana Department of Transportation contractor Dave O’Mara Contractor, Inc. plans to resume work on State Road 56 (Clifty Drive) on or after Monday, March 3, to complete pedestrian facility work in Madison.

Pedestrian facility work will take place between Wilson Avenue and Michigan Road and is expected to be complete in early June, weather permitting. Eastbound and westbound S.R. 56 will be reduced to one lane while work is in progress.

Resurfacing work will take place on S.R. 56 following the completion of pedestrian facility work. Overall work is scheduled to be complete in October 2025, weather permitting. Additional information will be provided as work progresses.

This work is part of a $12.3 million contract awarded to Dave O’Mara in November 2023. INDOT reminds drivers to slow down, use extra caution, and avoid distractions when traveling near work zones. All work is weather-dependent and schedules are subject to change.

Lane closures planned on U.S. 31 in Sellersburg

The Indiana Department of Transportation announces lane closures for U.S. 31 beginning on or after Monday, March 3, in Sellersburg.

Utility relocation work will take place between County Road 403 and the I-65 interchange in Sellersburg and is expected to be complete by early December 2025, weather permitting. Daily lane closures with flagging operations will be utilized while work is in progress.
