Thelma “Jeanie” Wood, age 81 of Salem, Indiana passed away Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Salem Crossing in Salem, Indiana.

Jeanie was born April 8, 1945, in Salem, Indiana, the daughter of the late Burvan Jones and Lovada (Davidson) Jones.

She was a graduate of Salem High School with the class of 1963 and attended First Christian Church of Salem.

On April 9, 2004, she married John Wood, who passed away on October 23, 2010.

Jeanie worked in retail management for thirty years. She spent many years square dancing with the Star Dusters of Salem and served as a CASA volunteer. She was a lover of birds and flowers; enjoyed reading, watching sports, and visiting thrift stores; and most of all, cherished spending time with her eight grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and rescue Siamese cat, Angel.

In addition to her parents and husband John, Jeanie is preceded in death by her siblings and their spouses: brother Raymond Jones (Fran); sisters Stella Voyles (Herb) and Clara Marie Shell (J.G.), all of Salem; as well as brothers-in-law Ralph Wood and David Wood (Sharon), both of Anderson, IN.

Jeanie’s survivors include sister-in-law Carol Marcotte of Littleton, CO; her son Tony Coats (Kelly) of Zionsville, Daughter Tammi Nicholson (Keith) of Salem, Daughter Tanya Konerman (Mike) of Bloomington, Stepdaughter April Satow (Steve) of Clarksville, Stepson John David Wood (Becky) of Simpsonville, KY; grandchildren Shelby Schultz (Jared) of Noblesville, Brianna Sullivan (Jake) of New Salisbury, Abby Cowley (Seth) of Cedar City, UT, Josh Nicholson (Kyla) of Salem, Eli Nicholson of Salem, Krista Konerman of Bloomington, Grace Konerman of Bloomington, and Gabby Cross of Clarksville. In addition, Jeanie leaves behind many friends and family who will miss her dearly.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 13th at 2:00 pm at Dawalt Funeral Home in Salem, IN with Damon Spurgeon officiating.

Interment will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery in Salem.

Friends and family may visit from 10:00 am until the time of the service.
